1. This should be reported for the description alone. The number of spelling/grammar errors and the total bull he has come out with is nigh on criminal in itself. 'This unit is clean and looks rich' is a highlight lol!
2. I like this. It's very honest. When people talk to me and think its a great life they often get a shock when I explain its not. I've been to Russia, Germany, Holland, France, Spain, other European countries and the US playing and it pretty much looks the same. Hardly any time for sightseeing and most of what you see is in a dark venue, budget hotel room, service station or the airport... Then there's the travelling during the night (so just street lights from a car window) or catching up on sleep when on the move. It's cramped, tiring, more routine than you expect and doesn't live up to the expectations you have when you say 'I'm flying to *insert exotic travel destination* for a gig'. I wouldn't change it for the world but there's definitely a reason why they pay you at the end lol!
3. Trabens...
4. I suppose it depends on cost first and foremost. The price I pay for a Fender or Gibson etc through work is considerably less than the street/retail price, so I could theoretically buy and sell within a week (although id lose my job for profiteering!) and make a decent (percentage) of profit, so if I kept it for a decade it would would make a very tidy investment... However, I'd rather just buy something I want with the money, use it and enjoy it!
5.
Of course not..! That's a red herring.
I don't think this is the plaice for these jokes...
6.
Because it's a fish
Is that why a tuna is so important?
7. My local had a sweeper style in not long ago but it was old stock from another store and has now sold. The new models all have the 5 knob volume, balance & bass/mid/treble cut and boosts. The new colour finishes are much nicer though!
8. I agree to an extent. I've had all sorts of basses and went with the theory of 'swap til I find a keeper' and soon found that Japanese Fenders are what I like. Build quality is far superior to every Mex/US Fender I've played, including custom shops. However, I'm under no illusion that its more likely that that is a personal preference and not actual fact. I believe it's hard to be truly objective in this kind of discussion.
9. Hopefully PM'd!
10. Sunburst + white pick guard = Cheap Argos starter pack cliche Sunburst + Tort pick guard = Classic combo Just my opinion though!
11. I had a similar revelation when switching to Fodera nickel strings from D'Addario. The tone is fantastic, great feel and the response is excellent. I always steer clear of steels as I don't like the tone they create and they are much more likely to cause damage to frets. It's just a shame Fodera don't make a 0.35-0.95 gauge set like D'Addario as I love that gauge!
12. Valve amps... No matter how good they sound, as soon as I pick it up and it tries to snap my spine in half, I instantly dislike it!
13.
I was confusing it with the VM Jazz with the rosewood neck. That has the tort pg. http://www.fender.com/en-GB/basses/jazz-bass/vintage-modified-jazz-bass-rosewood-fingerboard-olympic-white/
Ah! Squier have such a good offering these days. It must be great being a beginner and having so many good quality instruments to choose from. Between the extended Squier range and the sub £300 Ibanez models, you can get pretty much any kind of bass you want!
14.
The 4 string of this has got a tort pg...and looks bloody lovely. Great looking bass the 5, especially for the money.
I think you're confusing this with the CV '60s jazz which is white with a tort pick guard. The 4 string version of the 70s VM jazz bass is white and comes with a black pick guard.
15.
That passive P humbucker right where it is gives good thump and low-mid push but no real sub lows.
Do you mean the classic p-bass split coil pickup? To the OP, I found the same issue with my precision before moving it on. Even flats and an out-board preamp couldn't get the sound I was looking for. Maybe something like the MXR Bass octave deluxe pedal using the separate sub-octave very subtly might add that extra depth?
16. Having recently visited the G4M showroom and trying the RedSub branded amps, I wouldnt hold much hope for the pedals... But having not tried them, I would to try it first.
17. Just bought a loaded '62 jazz bass control plate from Jim. Arrived quickly in great condition and is now all installed and looking fantastic. Thanks for a swift and pleasant sale Jim!
18. I'm surprised at how close the Road Worn matches up against the original jazzes and the CS stuff. I actually did a blind test with her indoors loading up the sounds and I could tell a distinct difference between the 60s jazzes and the 70s jazzes. I was shocked at the Fodera. I had that down as one of the cheap basses as I thought that the SX was the nicer sound out of the two. I also thought the Marcus Miller was the sound that I liked the least and spotted it a mile off!
19. The bass lines I tend to class as 'memorable' are only memorable for one reason... I've heard/played them so many times that I'm forced to remember them! 'Brown eyed girl' would be a prime example. Personally, I think it's one of the most boring bass lines ever but it's memorable (probably to the majority of bass players) because we've all played/heard it so much.
20. I've got a box on the go at work but its taking a while to fill. Ill get it across ASAP!
21.
It sounds like a bass, is tuned like a bass and nine times out of ten, is played like a bass. You just listed all of it's plus points!
So why not buy an actual bass? The U-Bass doesn't sound like a bass, or a uke. It's a 'no mans land' type instrument. Just like the Banjalele and the guitalele. Gimmicky nonsense IMO.
22. Waste of time IMO. They don't sound like a ukulele, they aren't tuned like a ukulele and nine times out of ten, they arent played like a ukulele. At over £400 you could buy a nice second hand fretless that would be much more convincing when playing with a ukulele ensemble. Plus, if you're going to join a ukulele band to play bass lines, just play a bass instead... It'll definitely sound better.
23. Who knows... The one thing that is certain is that Fender always put their prices up once a year. This has meant that the Geddy Lee Sig Jazz I purchased new for £600 with a hiscox case is now close to £1000 off the shelf. This doesn't always reflect the resale value though, so it's a tough one but the price increases mean that they are more likely to hold a bigger share of their purchase value.
24.
A "go-to" bass. A bass with an alternative number of strings. A fretless bass. An easy-to-transport bass. A bass that has sentimental value. CB
+1 except Id have my YOB bass and an upright instead of 'easy to transport' and 'fretless'. Mine so far are; '62 RI Jazz - My 'go to' bass SR1605 - Alternate number of strings and easy to transport bass '75 RI Jazz - My Year of Birth bass Geddy Lee Jazz - My 'sentimental' bass Just need a nice upright and that'd be my 5 sorted
