Good but the cabronita telecaster with lic. Bigsby and the range of new colours in the 70s and 77 VM Jazz basses trump these IMO.

I don't really care what the FOH sounds like. I get my tone on stage which means I'm happy and play well because of it. The FOH sound might need certain elements adding/removing due to reasons with the venue or the other instruments etc and its the engineer's job to do that, not mine. I use a DI with a post/pre button, so if they want to hear 'my tone' as a reference, I can do that with ease and if not, they can do what they need to with the dry signal. I'm not a tone diva. I haven't got the time or energy for it lol.

Once you buy MIJ, you'll never go back. US standards seem like such a bad deal in comparison.

I've got a BWB on mine and its way cooler than white... Put some Fodera strings on it too. It's like a whole new monster now!

Contacted bassgear via email today to see if they had stock of the Aguilar TH500 carry case. Despite being closed on Sundays, Barrie replied within minutes offering to reserve one for me so I get one when the next batch arrive. Truly fantastic service!
I usually check bc on my phone these days so I can't really listen to anyone's recordings. :-(
Plus one! I'm usually checking Basschat on my work commute and trying to navigate the forum with the patchy (at best!) 3G so recordings are a no-go for me.
And why should he do that exactly? Do you let the previous owner of your basses have them in their possession until you want/need them? Try swapping the word "bass" for anything else you own and see if you want to 'compromise' your rights and possession with a previous owner just because it was 'dear' to them. When the last owner of your car comes round, I assume you'll be allowing him 'fair' access to use it?
It's slightly different due to the emotional attachment. If the car you mentioned was the car of ayrton senna and his family wanted access to it, I'd be understanding as to why they had an attachment.
The bass does not belong to Jaco's family at all. It was Jaco's, it has been sold several times and is now owned by someone else. Trujillo was not 'paid' $1m for joining, it was an advance. He's not a full 25% partner in Metallica either. But more to the point - so what? It's his money, he gets to spend it on whatever he likes. Just because he's earned a bit of money lately does not mean there is any obligation on him to make a $60,000 gift to anyone. Anyone who thinks that he should just give it away is living in cookoo land.
I wasn't suggesting he gives it to them! But why buy it for $60k, then lock it away? Surely just let the pastorius family have it in their possession. That way, they could use it as a museum piece to raise finds to buy it back from Trujillo or simply have access to something that is dear to their family. Then if they don't stump up the cash, Trujillo takes it back when he wants/needs to! Surely that's a fair/sensible compromise?
-
It troubles me that Trujillo has kept the bass, knowing it belongs to Jaco's family, knowing that Jaco's sons play bass and knowing that they tried to fight so hard for its return. If he really wanted to help, he should have returned the bass to the family IMO. He would still be part of the story but the bass would be with the family, not in Metallica's collection locked away from the world.
The "bass of doom" was bought by Rob Trujillo (of Metallica) as he wanted the Pastorius family to have it back. The owner of a guitar store in Manhattan had it, and wouldn't give it back to the family. So, Rob stepped in and did a magnificent thing. The guitar store in Manhattan is one which won't get any business from me anytime i'm in NYC.
Rumour has it that Trujillo bought it but refused to give it to the family, instead opting to keep it in his private collection whilst allowing the family access to it. Don't know if that's true, just a rumour I heard somewhere and I don't remember seeing Felix etc with it... Anyone have more info?

So, I've organised for my store in York to donate all used strings from shop floor models and customer restrings (unless otherwise stated) in addition to informing all customers purchasing strings about the scheme in the hope they too will donate. Hopefully this will help

These are confirmed now. Models include a '66 RI Olympic white jazz, tort plate, matching headstock and pearloid block inlays on a rosewood board. Other is a CAR jazz body, pearl block inlays on rosewood board and a P/J pickup config. Look interesting but both going for £1179ish is quite high IMO!

I've got a brand new set of D'Addario Balanced Tension and Roto Swing bass and an old set of Chromes. PM heading your way
Somewhat amazingly you're the second person to say something like this in the past week! We had a customer that wanted a particular amp that wasn't in stock but we tracked one down in Germany. It took a bit of legwork to get it organised and there was an extra shipping charge of £10 to get it over to the UK. We thought this was reasonable because the alternative was ordering from the USA which is a 6-8 week delay & a higher shipping charge ona 'one-off' order. We agreed to swallow the £10 because we'd quoted the price to the customer - he insisted on paying the extra £10 because he was pleased with the service. Little stuff like this really makes things worthwhile sometimes
I like being able to call a shop, walk in and try things and have great service when I'm buying a product (regardless of cost!). The Internet is far too clinical for me and if it costs me a couple of extra quid to keep a store alive and a knowledgable member in a job etc then so be it!
The onsite code should be working now - I've tested it & it seems OK. People can get the 10% off if they call in and say they've seen the Fodera Birthday promotion. It wasn't designed to be an 'open' offer so that'll be why Vic didn't mention it automatically. It was only available to people on the mailing list, FaceBook likes and BassChat members. Happy to either refund the cost or take it off something else in the future You can either PM me here or send an email to the info@bassgear address & we'll sort something out.
Honestly, I'm not fussed in the slightest. I was more enquiring just in case anyone reading this fancied taking advantage if it was still running. I'm happy to pay the asking price when dealing with nice staff who offer good service
Fixed now - Just type Birthday in the coupon code and it will take 10% off all Fodera strings Any problems zap me a PM & I'll sort things out.
I just purchased them without the code in the end. The site wasnt accepting the code when I initially tried and vic didnt mention that the promo was still running when i called yesterday. I'm not bothered, it was only a couple of quid. Talked to Vic and he was a real nice guy. Great and friendly service. If the strings are as good as I've heard, I'll be back on the phone ordering in bulk
Flat rate of £3 whether it's one or two packs
Thanks Barrie. Is the birthday offer over now?

Happens to me a lot in the function band... If I'm playing something repetitive but not challenging, my brain wanders and when I reengage with the song I've forgotten how many choruses we've played or whether we've done the solo yet etc. it doesn't help when we've played the same set 6/7 times over the space of Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It all blurs into one and I can't remember what's going on lol.
Thanks Pierre I think it does make a difference that everyone at BG (both full time and part time) are all active players. There were two of us in this afternoon when a customer order for a Mesa 4x12 arrived. We dropped everything and immediately got it set up to test to make sure it was all working properly. It sounded immense! We couldn't resist getting the Yamaha Billy Sheehan off the wall and checking how it sounded - proper rock bass and cab with an Aggie head of good measure. The two of us were grinning from ear to ear - like kids in a candy store
Sorry to hijack thread but how much is UK shipping Barrie? I'm looking to order some Fodera strings in the next couple of days and just wondered how to expect for p&p.
Yeah I think (lol) I like the burl top, i think its different and i guess each one unique! its a long wait till October!
Tell me about it! The worst thing is, there's only one really poor demo by GAK online (the sound quality is bad and it doesn't do the pickups/tonal palette I know the bass has, any justice) and there are hardly any photos other than stock so I can't even get a feel for how the burl top could turn out. It's going to be my reading bass and it looks ideal. Any tone at my finger tips and the low range making reading positions more comfortable and more efficient. Excited!!
-
I've ordered an sr1605 which is due to land in October. I based my purchase on my experience with the SR1205 and SR1200. The nordstrands are much better than the Bartolinis in the SR605/SR600 which the closest thing ive tried to the 1200/1205. I'm really excited because on paper it's exactly what I'm after and if its as good as the SR1205 ill be happy It was only the burl top that swing it to the 1605 for me!

I imagine the new donation pricing is a contributing factor. I'm all for supporting the community but maybe a percentage charge for sales would be better than a set price. £20 donation is easily swallowed by the sale of a £1000+ bass but is a fair chunk out of the sale of a second hand Squier or similar. It's going to kill the sale and trading of budget gear. Who wants to donate £20 just to organise a swap/trade? It's then costing you money to swap like-for-like.
There are more than 12 frets?
There are more than 7?!

Elixir Strings massive price increase...
skej21 replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
So it's cheaper to buy a set of decent flats than a set of elixirs?! Silly decision IMO. -
Moon dance? On a more serious note, four on six is a good one although maybe not an iconic standard
