1.
I was confusing it with the VM Jazz with the rosewood neck. That has the tort pg. http://www.fender.com/en-GB/basses/jazz-bass/vintage-modified-jazz-bass-rosewood-fingerboard-olympic-white/
Ah! Squier have such a good offering these days. It must be great being a beginner and having so many good quality instruments to choose from. Between the extended Squier range and the sub £300 Ibanez models, you can get pretty much any kind of bass you want!
 2.
The 4 string of this has got a tort pg...and looks bloody lovely. Great looking bass the 5, especially for the money.
I think you're confusing this with the CV '60s jazz which is white with a tort pick guard. The 4 string version of the 70s VM jazz bass is white and comes with a black pick guard.
 3.
That passive P humbucker right where it is gives good thump and low-mid push but no real sub lows.
Do you mean the classic p-bass split coil pickup? To the OP, I found the same issue with my precision before moving it on. Even flats and an out-board preamp couldn't get the sound I was looking for. Maybe something like the MXR Bass octave deluxe pedal using the separate sub-octave very subtly might add that extra depth?
 4. Having recently visited the G4M showroom and trying the RedSub branded amps, I wouldnt hold much hope for the pedals... But having not tried them, I would to try it first.
 5. Just bought a loaded '62 jazz bass control plate from Jim. Arrived quickly in great condition and is now all installed and looking fantastic. Thanks for a swift and pleasant sale Jim!
 6. I'm surprised at how close the Road Worn matches up against the original jazzes and the CS stuff. I actually did a blind test with her indoors loading up the sounds and I could tell a distinct difference between the 60s jazzes and the 70s jazzes. I was shocked at the Fodera. I had that down as one of the cheap basses as I thought that the SX was the nicer sound out of the two. I also thought the Marcus Miller was the sound that I liked the least and spotted it a mile off!
 7. The bass lines I tend to class as 'memorable' are only memorable for one reason... I've heard/played them so many times that I'm forced to remember them! 'Brown eyed girl' would be a prime example. Personally, I think it's one of the most boring bass lines ever but it's memorable (probably to the majority of bass players) because we've all played/heard it so much.
 8. I've got a box on the go at work but its taking a while to fill. Ill get it across ASAP!
 9.
It sounds like a bass, is tuned like a bass and nine times out of ten, is played like a bass. You just listed all of it's plus points!
So why not buy an actual bass? The U-Bass doesn't sound like a bass, or a uke. It's a 'no mans land' type instrument. Just like the Banjalele and the guitalele. Gimmicky nonsense IMO.
 10. Waste of time IMO. They don't sound like a ukulele, they aren't tuned like a ukulele and nine times out of ten, they arent played like a ukulele. At over £400 you could buy a nice second hand fretless that would be much more convincing when playing with a ukulele ensemble. Plus, if you're going to join a ukulele band to play bass lines, just play a bass instead... It'll definitely sound better.
 11. Who knows... The one thing that is certain is that Fender always put their prices up once a year. This has meant that the Geddy Lee Sig Jazz I purchased new for £600 with a hiscox case is now close to £1000 off the shelf. This doesn't always reflect the resale value though, so it's a tough one but the price increases mean that they are more likely to hold a bigger share of their purchase value.
 12.
A "go-to" bass. A bass with an alternative number of strings. A fretless bass. An easy-to-transport bass. A bass that has sentimental value. CB
+1 except Id have my YOB bass and an upright instead of 'easy to transport' and 'fretless'. Mine so far are; '62 RI Jazz - My 'go to' bass SR1605 - Alternate number of strings and easy to transport bass '75 RI Jazz - My Year of Birth bass Geddy Lee Jazz - My 'sentimental' bass Just need a nice upright and that'd be my 5 sorted
 13.
I have the Aguilar. Its pretty good. It tracks down to B fairly comfortably but I have found it gets spotty around A. Aguilar pedals are poorly designed as the high edges make it difficult to use them with angled jack sockets. Still it is a good pedal otherwise.
I too have an Octamizer and much prefer it to the OC2/3 and the MXR bass octave deluxe pedals. In Aguilar's defence, the new lipless pedal design has removed the 'high edges' to eliminate the issues with using angled jacks, so don't be put off by that! Great analogue sound and much less fiddley than the MXR IMO.
 14.
I did point out the specific problem with the ASAT. And should I really have to tell a guitar shop: 'You need to make sure your stock is in good order before putting it out'?
No but it may have been fine when they put it out and has gradually become in that state through constant demo use. Even without these factors, the guitar isnt going to stay perfectly set-up hanging on a wall so its expected that it will need to be maintained regularly and contrary to what you may think, they probably don't get time to play every guitar/bass in the shop all day to find out these issues themselves, likely relying on constructive feedback about the state of the instruments from customers so that they can act on and become aware of issues developing with their stock. Simply stating 'its a dog' and storming out isn't helpful. However, it would raise concerns if there were issues with multiple instruments that you tried. The odd one is understandable.
 15. My drill for reading is simple but gets rid of the annoyances you seem have with reading. First, I look at the key sig and then quickly scan through to see what the most commonly occurring notes are. 9/10, they narrow down the ambiguity of the key sig (for example, if you have 1 sharp but there are a lot of 'E's in the piece, it's likely to be E minor, not G major). I then look for the highest note and the lowest note in the piece. This then tells me which positions I will need to be prepared to use and how far up/down the neck I NEED to go. Finally, I look for any tricky looking phrases, again so I know that they're coming and if I don't get a chance to give it a quick 'ghost run' then at least I take away the rush of adrenaline and panic that can occur when a tricky part comes out if nowhere lol.
 16.
Please no large words.....i think its an applied system to an instrument inherently out of tune intonation wise to what are considered perfect intervals.....guessing though to be honest.
I'd try an explain but this is so much easier to understand. WARNING! Watching this video WILL make everything you listen to immediately afterwards sound dreadfully out of tune lol. http://youtu.be/BhZpvGSPx6w
 17. It's crazy that you can buy a bass as amazing as this for less than an Akai Deep Impact! The market is crazy these days. Someone buy this, they're fantastic basses!!
 18.
I've only got 5"...............but most don't like it that wide!
..........Bazinga!
 19.
class
You weren't far off though. We were asking what your favourite 12" was!
 20.
My coolest record.....having 9 w***s whilst watching Basic Instinct when i was 14......oh right....not that kind of record!
Hence the title, Lord Sausage?
 21. My original 1959 pressing of 'Time Out' by Dave Brubeck Quartet is up there...
 22. Probably one of the best fender models ever and they go for stupid money second hand. I love mine so much, im actually tempted to buy a second! Someone is going to get a crazy bargain here! Good luck with the sale
 23.
If you hadn't excluded Ibanez I would have thoroughly recommended a second hand SR505 or 605, which you'd just about get within your price range..
Or an SR305 brand new for £299 Plus the 'root beer' finish is pretty darn cool!
 24.
I'm beginning to feel that I should buy British stuff. I have an Ashdown head and a Barefaced cab - both of which I am really pleased with. What are my options for actual bass guitars? I can think of:

Status
Shuker
GB ?
I guess there must be more?
Missing a really obvious one here - Overwater!
