Thanks for the replies guys! Totally agree that these are great basses but I've recently discovered that a Jazz with flats is the sound I was trying to get when I bought this, so I'm moving it on to someone who will play/gig it, as it currently just sits under the bed Any precision player will love this.

Up for sale is my well-loved MIM Classic Series '50s Precision Bass (offical spec - http://www.fender.co...-precision-bass) As you can tell from the pictures, I have gigged this bass extensively since it's original purchase in 2008 and as a result, there are a number of dings, bumps and wear that reflect this. I have, however, made a number of small alterations to the bass that include a different neckplate (with late '50s serial number), chrome pickup/bridge covers, thumbrest and rear headstock strap button. The bass is also strung with a set of D'addario Chromes and comes with it's official Fender owner's pack but I no longer own the anodized aluminium pickguard. The bass will be shipped in a hardcase via UPS next day delivery, although collection/meet up (north yorkshire) is also negotiable. These basses are fantastic and as a die-hard Jazz/Jap Fender fan it converted me to Precisions. However, I've decided that I'm much more comfortable with a Jazz and would like to move this on to a better home with a precision fan who will play it as intended! These currently retail around £620, so I'm looking for SOLD (O.V.N.O & no trades please) via paypal gift, bank transfer or cash on collection. This price includes chrome covers, owner's pack, hardcase and Next Day P&P. Any questions/offers via PM please. I'm still undecided about selling this so may withdraw if there is little interest. Thanks for looking

is it possible to play drums and bass well...?
skej21 replied to lowdowner's topic in General Discussion
The difference is that Jaco played drums first, a wrist injury was the reason he switched to bass IIRC
Im fully aware of this but felt it was slightly irrelevant (and i imagine widely known on here) and therefore not worth reguritation. Does it matter whether Jaco learnt drums or bass first? The question is; Is it possible to play drums and bass well? My answer that it is (as Jaco has proven, regardless of order) still stands. -

Jaco played drums and bass on Teen Town, so... Yes! -
Really? You see cheap tables etc made like this, I'm surprised a genuine Fender would. If this is the case there is quite a difference to MIM, although I doubt it would make any difference sonically or otherwise to the actual guitar. The body would have been cut from a block by the same machine as if it were two or three pieces glued together.
Totally agree. The cutting etc is all the same but it is true that they Mexican factory has no wastage. It means they can make more guitars with the same amount of wood than the US factory, bringing down production costs.
Thanks - that's useful. I guess the pick ups may be slightly different spec as well. My son has a Mexican Tele in sunburst which is very nice - bit the trans finish doesn't seem to show so many body joints as 6 to 8. FWIW I have tried both MIM and MIA P and J basses and I agree with your description (not tried a post 2008 MIA yet though). I am a Musicman player and would draw an analogy between the SBMM (not the Sub) and USA versions of those instruments - I dont think they are 6 or 8 piece though.
That's slightly inaccurate. The USA fenders with painted finishes usually have 3 piece bodies, the naturals sometimes have two as you're looking at the wood. USA deluxe/select/reissues etc have 2. Unfortunately, there is no waste in the Mexican factory, so they can make the body up with as many pieces as it takes. I had a friend who stripped his mex tele and it had 76 bits glued together and sanded to create the shape of the body.

Pitch black all the way for me. The TU3 was good but three gigs later, the white casing looks scruffy and the stomp button on the pitch black is a lot nicer than the rocking pedal thing on the TU3.
Well I'm debating that too can't help but think I should keep this in the gig bag just in case
My thoughts exactly! My radial is the backup to my Aguilar Tone Hammer (in case the batteries go)... Was thinking about shifting mine but thought better too -
I've been waiting three pages for this remark . There's always one, isn't there...
But more fun when there's more
Haha, first BCer to say its better lower
In the first picture your right hand looks strained and you're having to attack the strings at a funny angle. Your left hand thumb is coming over the neck and you're fretting heavily with your index finger. In the second picture, your left hand looks much better but your right hand still looks like its in a difficult position. That means better in second pic IMO
So this year I've been practicing on keeping my technique at the same level, whilst lowering my strap gradually... Does anyone else care this much about how they look? In the last few months I've gone from this To this Am I cool or what??
Your technique looks to be a million miles better in the second picture which is really unusual!

@bass_stuff - twitter practice resource
skej21 replied to jakebeamish's topic in Theory and Technique
Hi Basschat I fairly recently started up a twitter account called @bass_stuff. I've been tweeting links to good learning material for bassists of all abilities, and I thought y'all might be interested in that kind of thing if you're that way inclined. I'm no bass expert and I'm still learning myself - so any contributions or suggestions would be massively appreciated, from anyone. I wrote some more about it here: http://www.jakebeamish.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/launching-bass_stuff/ the account URL is: http://www.twitter.com/bass_stuff I hope to see some of you over there! thanks for reading
Followed looking forward to your tweets. Follow me back and I can share stuff I've found with you too! -
So I'm wondering if your fingers lead you, or if your musical mind does. And what you do to play THROUGH your bass rather than ON it.
Luckily, my tutors both made me sing what I played in lessons and it carried over into my own practice. It has helped me a lot in building my own style as I can play what's in my head pretty accurately, whether that's going with improvised bass parts or if I'm thinking about more formal playing (like sight reading a line or thinking more theoretically about bass lines for walking/soloing in jazz etc)... There's not much I can't get from my head to my fingers and I put that down to integrating singing whilst practicing.
Hey Folks, I bought a Gold Anodized P Bass pick guard of Matt last week. Matt is a really super guy to deal with and the pick guard arrived very well packed and in a timely fashion. I've bee searching for one for ages and thankfully for me I spotted Matt's just in time.. It's in as new condition, exactly how he described it and it's finished my P bass of to a tee. Super chuffed !! Cheers for everything Matt, Pete.
Glad you're happy with it mate! Looking forward to seeing the photos Matt
Matt bought a Fender bass case from me. A great guy to deal with.. Highly recommended Thanks again Matt Chris
Thanks Chris! The case was in better than new condition and things went really smoothly. Another shining example of the really, truly amazing members of this excellent community. Matt
Good mnemonic there - ECG - first inversion c triad :-) BB
Not quite. First inversion of C major triad is EGC. Nice sentiment though! -
Catch 'em at the start of October in London, Liverpool and Leeds, folks.
You would definitely be catching something if you go to one of those gigs, judging by the state of that precision!

You have written confirmation of the gig! If your quote in the earlier post is from a Facebook message or email, he has written to confirm that you were booked and he is cancelling on you. Even if you are not, tell him that you're a member of the MU and you are going to show them the correspondence (Facebook or email) in which he admits responsibility for the cancellation and ask for the legal assistance you get with membership to help you chase the fee you are owed. If youre lucky, you might make him sh!t his pants enough to pay up or honour your booking!

For my hands on the one in the shop a couple of weeks ago. It's a little bit neck heavy (as the body weighs practically nothing!) but it's nothing that a decent strap wouldn't remove with ease. Sound and versatility is incredible for the price! Really thunderous. The finish is really nice quality and the neck is superb. Truly comfortable and easy to play. If nothing else, put it on the 'basses to try' list and make your own mind up after
