Maybe they just thought there wasn't much between your audition and another candidate and they just want to give it another go to see how it goes in a less pressured, more realistic environment? If another person had said no, surely they would've offered it to you rather than setting up a second audition type situation? Also, use it as an opportunity to see if the way they rehearse and work on songs is something you're happy with and to make sure it's a band you'd be happy to join. It's as much an opportunity for you to audition them as it for them to judge you :-)

For those that were looking to see if Mark did slab precisions, I found this when browsing: http://www.classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/sold_basses/00121limelight66slabp.htm Looks like it'd be possible :-)
I actually came across this the other day wondering how low the human voice can go (I can just about do a low E). He should be in a metal band, epic stuff.
So it's good for metal?

My first one was 'Hairspray'... It was great fun and got me totally hooked! I just take my GS112 and my LMIII and that's usually enough (with a DI signal into the PA if needed). I ALWAYS take my Korg pitchblack though. It's good if I need to tune quickly during the show but it's also nice to have it under your feet so you can cut the signal during silent sections so there's no unwanted string noise or clattering etc. Good luck and hope you have fun :-) Oh, and take a good pencil and rubber lol.

Just been looking through the recently sold section of the website and it's not helping my GAS one bit. Some of the Limelight jazzes are stunning! -
I'll let you know when I see it - I can't really tell from the pics.
Any idea when you'll get it? -
I want to play bass, must get the right clothes, oh, and a bass.
A lot of musicians could do with lessons on how to dress for live performance IMO. ;-)
Can you start with the jazz cats please? Maybe start with a gimp ball to stop all that scatting/singing along? And definitely lose the flat caps! -
Maybe you could get involved in some kind of an oral history project while you have still got all your chairs at home, so to speak?
The only kind of oral history going on in the '70s that I know of, is the kind I would NOT want to get involved with... -
If he can make me one of these, I think I'll be getting one!
That's lovely. It's just a shame about the bad photoshopping ruining the pics! -
IMO these are all piss-poor excuses for a company that publishes its email address to attract business. If you're going to be away have an "out-of-office" message set up. Make sure that your spam filters are set up properly. If you can't do these things then you shouldn't really be publishing your email address for business purposes.
Totally agree. I got a Roqsolid cover for my Aguilar GS112 a little while ago. It took them over a week to reply to my email, told me they didn't want my measurements because they already had a template for that cab. It turned up, the quality was average at best, the handle hole didn't line up properly and for the price (which has been mentioned above as 'ridiculous'... I agree!) it wasn't worth half what I paid and offered little to no protection, even though I paid for the "padding". I chucked it in my attic and bought the official Aguilar one which is infinitely better quality and a much better fit. It also didn't cost that much more. If Roqsolid is your only choice, I suppose it'll have to do but if you have options, I would advise on my experience that you use them.

In short, no. IME the Gibson QC is often worse than the Epiphone QC.

Yet another beautiful instrument from Mark! Really nice. I keep trying to forget about mine until it is ready but these threads aren't helping :-S -
Do they not need to weigh items when they post them out to customers?
If it's anything like our place then no. The companies we deal with give you the shipping weight of each item which is all you need when posting it back out to someone else. We so sheet music in our place so we have scales for weighing our post but guitarguitar might not have that. Obviously, the shipping weight isn't the weight of the actual instrument. If they were quick to reply and apologetic, they may be genuine. Unless you contacted the web team and they have no way of weighing it there but the store staff could?

I like the headstock! If you change the neck, you'll have start calling it 'Trigger's Broom' though :-p

Are people who say "my bass never goes out of tune" crazy?
skej21 replied to thepurpleblob's topic in General Discussion
I can take any of my basses off the stand or out of the case and they're always pretty much bang on. I always check with a tuner that they are correct when playing live for obvious reasons but even then, 99% of the time they're in. -
I'll also weigh in for the view point that the gifted and hard working students are often over looked by lecturers at times due to the fact they have to get the lesser people passed. Speaking from experience here, while I'm certainly not the most amazing bass player I like to think of myself as one of the most hardworking, I'm constantly practicing and trying to find new gigs and people to play with, however on my HND, a 2 year course of which I'm a matter of hours away from finishing, there's only 1 person who I can honestly say will have a career in the industry to a good level, the rest don't work hard enough nor have the academic prowess to get the non-playing roles in the industry. It's a frustrating state of affairs when 90% of the class don't have the drive or determination to actually work hard and succeed, this limits the effect a lecturer can actually have on their students. There are many factors that come in to play when discussing the pros and cons of music teaching establishments, same as any teaching establishment really.
The irony being that without the pupils that you spend all your time and energy dragging through a pass grade, the course would not exist for the hard working pupils! Then when the course does exist, they are overlooked as time is dedicated to helping those who can't be bothered rather than challenging and furthering those who want to truly achieve. It's a sorry state of affairs.
If a student fails the lecturer gets the bollockin' even if said student never shows up, I know, been there, got the T shirt had the nervous breakdown. That's why I'm now an ex lecturer and a damn sight happier. Results = money, and LOT of cooking the books goes on. I know an ex maths lecturer who was under tremendous pressure to bump up students marks so more passed. He asked them to put it in writting. Next thing he gets a very sweet retirement package. New guy in place, young and ambitious results get a lot better. It's not the students fault, league tables and funding causes it. I work with drug addicts and alcoholics now who are much nicer to deal with than academia.
+1 This is also why I left the profession. Private instrumental tuition and workshop teaching is much more rewarding and less obsessive over stats and figures. I made the right choice although ironically would not have been able to do much of the teaching that I love for local music services without my PGCE qualification which required me to undertake music college/university education :-)

Ibanez SR305. Has a surprisingly good low B for the price and at £299 new, you should be able to pick one up second hand at a decent price. Close string spacing though, so watch out for that if you're not a fan!

I bought one and was pretty disappointed. They already had an existing Aguilar GS112 templates but when it arrived it didn't fit correctly. The quality was pretty poor too as the stitching was a bit wonky and was already frayed. Poor quality for what I would say is quite an overpriced product. Like some others in this thread have said, I may use them again if they are the only option but as long as I use gear that has it's own official covers I'll be buying them. I chucked mine in the attic and bought the official Aguilar cover which is infinitely better quality and actually not that much more expensive. You live and learn!

Yet another gig in the declining club scene for me. Had a great night with those who were there (including the awesome cap who was raving alone on the dance floor to EVERY song!) but it's not anywhere near as well-attended as it used to be. They even called off the bingo because not enough people wanted to get involved!
A 'Grant' which cost me £50 secondhand. It was a Precision copy. They were imported from Asia, by a shop in Edinburgh called Grants, in the 80s. Some guy was trying to sell one on Basschat a couple of years ago for £400 as a collectible vintage bass. I can't remember his name but I do remember how he described it. +++AWESOME+++ It wasn't...... Edit: I found that very ad. Heeheeheee...... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/175221-sold/
Is this how Sye Ryder basses will be advertised in the future? *runs and hides*

A BC Rich Warlock bass that one of my students brought to a lesson. I looked past the aesthetics and gave it a chance. He'd got it for 'a bargain' price of £100 so it looked like it could've been a great back-up to his other bass (an SR300 in iron pewter)... We swapped basses for half the lesson so I could have a proper look and I wouldn't have had that bass if the guy had PAID me £100 to take it from him. Awful.

To be fair, the U2 boys can't do any worse than the 'innovative' new iPad friendly strats and the strats with the little digital 'personality' cards!
Working with a new electronic project at the moment so thought i'd share some pictures of my setup. We've got a Moog Little Phatty, Novation Bass Station II, Roland Gaia & a Novation Impulse all routed into a Motu Microlite Midi interface & Motu Ultralite MK3. This is all then patched into MainStage to control all backing tracks, synth patches & volumes etc...
Nice! It still bugs me that they call it the bass station II! It's a lovely little synth though :-)
