I've emailed back and forth with Mark, I'll be straight up and say he seems downright rude, seems to have no idea about customer service and doesn't really pay that much attention to the rabble he's putting on the website either. I could not recommend the guys over at Bassgear more.
+1... He posted on Facebook earlier today about Dunlop string offer and used a picture that had another company logo (rich tone) on it. Bassgear every time for me.
Thus says the man who happily sold me one! No issues, however. I knew what I was buying - they have their foibles, but they play and sound superb
In my defence, I said 'in short'... There are obviously some exceptions and I didn't mean the newer EB range as they are excellent quality! It's the other stuff like thunderbirds (the Gibson Thunderbirds that we've had in have been no better quality than the Epiphone models but obviously carry a much larger price tag!) and SGs but mostly the guitars (in fact, usually the stuff that has a high gloss lacquer finish) that tend to be badly finished. We had a Memphis custom ES175 in and they hadn't even painted under the neck pocket!! Just sprayed it with the neck already set. We also had a VOS 335 and the lacquer was cracking around the Gibson inlay on the headstock. Had to send them both back and they are £2500+ guitars! Those EB basses are lovely though and worth every single penny!
By saying guitarists must behave themselves, does that mean no Stairway to Heaven, Paranoid and Smoke on the Water? Or is that just those over 45?
With 'Frozen' and Adele chiming out from the pianos most days, I imagine the egocentric guitar noodling of the past would be welcome relief in most music retail stores these days! -
Mark said that he could do a 66 jazz if I could find a D&B neck for him. But I can't...
Get a warmoth neck? In the 'build' section they have the option of creating a neck with binding and dots...
Hey Gareth I can't compare it to a real '63 J 'cos I've never played one for any great length, but: Swapping between it and my early 70s P's, and from memory my (now sold) early 70s J's, nothing about it feels 'repro'. It just nails the warm, lived-in vintage vibe perfectly. I've been holding out for an early 70s maple-board P, but I'm 100% convinced something from Limelight will quench the GAS, at my exact spec, at a fraction of the price.
This is exactly why I put my money down. Fraction of the price, Marks attention to detail and ability and taste is excellent from what I've seen/heard but most importantly, it's something I can take out without having a heart attack every time someone looks at it! Can't wait for mine to turn up now I've seen yours and heard the excellent sound samples.
I used to do that until I wandered too far off-stage once and pulled my whole rig over with everything plugged in. Made an awful noise. Nearly cried. That's the downside to lightweight cabs!
I don't think any cabs are designed to counteract you walking off the stage... Just stay where you're supposed to (at the back in that dark corner!!) ;-)

Mike bought some strings from me. Great comms and super fast payment. Highly recommended!

How do you enter the stage..so to speak...at a gig?

Waddling with my pants 'round my ankles... -
Have used them before but can't stand them. Impractical, never have decent connections and at constantly pulling at both ends and to me, they look dated and cheesy (like a phone in a '90s teen show like 'Saved by the Bell' or 'Fresh Prince'...) It's Planet Waves American Stage Cables or Fender Custom Shop cables for me every time.

Sold some strings to Simon. Payment was super fast and communications were great. Highly recommended :-)
It's the rounds it was wearing when I got it.... not sure of the brand. The flats will be going on soon Well spotted, and.. thank you
Good choice. I have a nice set of flats waiting for mine when it arrives. I'll be recording a before and after so people can hear the difference :-)
The more I look at this thread the harder it becomes to not get the credit card out and order the 62 P bass I want in Lake Placid Blue RW and Tort guard with chrome hardware... 1, 2, 3, 4... breathe
Just do it! ;-)
-
Well... look what I just got: I had no intention whatsoever of buying a Jazz, but I went to see someone about a Precision today and they also had this. I just couldn't resist it...
Nice one! Saw this had gone on Facebook and wondered if you'd taken it for yourself. It looks stunning (hopefully my precision will be as nice when it's done!). Enjoy! (Sound clips?)

I wish I wasn't so far away so I could enter my Fender Nate Mendel signature into the game. Looking forward to seeing the results though!

I second Steve-bbb. Our warbler has used both and the VE20 was nowhere near as good. Go for the Helicon!

I'm surprised nobody has suggested a 'Basschat Magazine' yet... Lots of players, people who have access to gear who work in music retail or within the industry (or could include reviews of gear by basschatters playing other basschatters basses... That would be an interesting twist on the usual reviews!) and we have designers and educators. Not such a far-fetched idea!

Self Esteem was one of the bass lines that really got me wanting to play bass! Great band and a superb bassist! http://youtu.be/CkFH0KMO0G0

Depends on the gig and load in. If stuff is going in the van for a function or wedding; bass in hardcase, cab in live-in flightcase, cables amp and pedalboard just carry in the retrospective gig bags. If it's a quick, smaller gig; bass in gig bag, pedalboard amp and cables in gig bags and cab goes in it's Aguilar padded cover.
Found this. Lovely bass, wired things on it!! http://muldersworld.com/watch.asp?v=xtVkxXOu_Mo
To answer your question... This: http://www.spidercapo.com

My Geddy Lee jazz bass also has a first fret side dot so it's not just the squiers. I thought all basses that have a block first fret inlay also had a first fret side dot to match? I didn't realise that was uncommon...
