1. It's cool to see all this Yamaha love! I first played a TRB1005 quite a few years ago and was so impressed with the low B that it made me consider 5 (and 6) string instruments a lot more. I tried a bunch of 5 string basses, and bought a pretty high end 5 string that had a similar spec, but it just didn't feel right to me. I snapped up a TRB1006 for £400 last year and it's been my most-played instrument since! Yamaha win!
2.
Fantastic band, real visceral rocknroll energy. Love DFA 1979 too (haven't they reformed?)
I'm not sure if DFA have officially reformed, but at SXSW a few weeks ago they played a surprise set and caused a riot because of the amount of people that wanted to see them!
3.
It goes through my Marshall 1x15 cab @300w. This amp is so powerful through that, it shakes the windows. Don't think 'oh it's only 30w' because in the real world valve amps are far more powerful than solid state. I can't tell any difference with my Hartke HA3500 combo.
Valve amps can be very deceiving things! I've used my Orange Tiny Terror guitar amp for gigs through a 4X12, he's only got 15 watts inside him, but boy does he kick it out! Good luck with the sale, looks like a nice amp.
4. I own a Thumb Bolt-On and Stage 1 (both 4 strings). They are very different beasts, which is exactly what I like about them. For me the Thumb gets a lot of studio time because I like the natural midrange it produces and the general Warwick character of it tonally. Whereas the Streamer gets to go to band practices and gigs because it's lighter, more comfortable to play (because the 1st fret isn't a mile away!) and tonally I feel like it sits in the mix of a live situation a little better, but then that's very subjective to the style of music being played. My advice would be to try them out, get your hands on old warwicks and new warwicks and I think you'll realise fairly quickly which one is best for your needs. Trying out older models might be a bit trickier, but the difference between the old and new is pretty big.
5. You have fine taste in drummer/bassist duos Sawtooth, but Lightning Bolt on a Sunday morning, c'mon, it's a family forum!
6.
One thing: the drummer is a surprisingly smart guy - ear defenders.
He's lost a significant amount of his hearing. They started in 1994 and they tour extensively, apparently his ears are really screwed. John Peel was a fan of Lightning Bolt, there's some videos of their Peel sessions floating around on the internet, although like all videos of them they're incredibly distorted because of the sheer volume of this band. They're big on playing "guerilla-gigs" in interesting places, one of which was outside John Peel's chalet first thing in the morning at one of the ATP Festivals.
7. I've seen these guys a couple of times over the past 2 years. Their live sound is so huge! Definitely "horses for courses" on this stuff though, most people find their sound pretty offensive, but I think that's what appeals to me about them
8.
Don't do it, black to natural is possibly the hardest refin due to the amount of prep you need to get all the black off, all the sunken sealer, then finding out the hard way WHY the body blank went into the "spray these ones black" pile in the first place... Wait for a blonde 'ray if you are that picky about colour.
+1. I'd recommend looking out for one in the colour you want, maybe a trade, or you might find you can pick one up for a good price, sell on your one and then be left with some beer tokens.
9. Sounds great! Nice playing too
10. The satin finish looks great with the tobacco burst paint job. Good luck with the sale!
11. I started off on guitar, then switched to bass as I found I had a much better knack for writing bass parts and I got more enjoyment out of playing bass. My basses have been quite neglected over the past couple of weeks since I'm going through a bit of a bluegrass phase with my acoustic geetar!
12. awesome! absolutely love it!
13. I've never thought anything bad of the small questions that get asked whilst I'm selling something here. It's a chance for you as a seller to get talking to a potential customer.
14. Nice bass! Good luck with the sale
15. I wonder where my Bassbase 600 is now? I sold it on basschat, might have even been way back on bassworld actually. I bet where ever it is it's still in the condition it was when I had it, that thing was built like a tank!
16. My first loud amp was a Bassbase 600 head. In hindsight, it was one the best amps I've owned in terms of useful features, volume and build quality.
17. I've had good results from re-amping recently. I've recorded my bass parts into a nice mic pre amp, got a really nice clean tone and used a small amount of compression and recorded it. Then I've sent the signal back out to my bass rig which is mic'd and DI'd. This has given me a good chance to play around with my pedals and mic placement whilst hearing my bass lines.
18. I use the G loads, my Yamaha TRB 6 string is tuned EADGCF because I get so much use out of chords and harmonics on high strings.
19. First Bass Owned: Warwick Thumb Bolt-On 'Go To' Bass: 1974 Fender Precision 'Your' Bass: 1974 Fender Precision
20. My trusty 1998 Warwick Thumb Bolt-On. The slim wenge neck on this bass makes it so easy to play, it's had a lot of a love and feels very worn in. 2006 Warwick Streamer Stage 1. I custom ordered this with an ebony fretboard, black hardware and a d-tuner. The Streamer is my go to bass for a great all-rounder, the Thumb is my pick up n' play bass at home and it's seen it's fair share of gigs and recordings.
21. This isn't porn, this is absolute filth! And I'm getting some serious GAS looking at all these basses!
22. I see your next one is at the Post Office Inn on the 8th April. I'll be there if I don't have to work! That pub is a 5 minute walk from my house, ideal!
23. DI + mic is great if you get the right mic for the situation. Your best bet is going to be trying out a few mics and see what you like the sound of, also pay close attention to how much bleed you're getting from other loud things on the stage. There is no "best" mic for this situation, just personal preference. Take note of what the guys here prefer to use and then go and do a little online homework!
24. Having a jam with some musicians I've not played with before, or haven't played with in quite some time always makes a difference for me. Maybe that's worth a try? Playing with different people can often shed a different light on the way you're playing, and in turn this can give you more energy to work on some aspects of your playing in your own time.

Fanned frets

I don't think it's a gimmick at all. I see this as a clever idea, as I've always hated slack-sounding low B's. I've not played one though, so I'm only talking "in theory" here!
