FS: Apple MacBook unibody
thumbo replied to thumbo's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Ah! Sorry I missed all these questions! I've just sold this on ebay. Just in case any of you are still in the market for one of these, this is one of the last generation of Mac Unibody laptops. These don't have the extended battery life but they are still pretty good going on it, I believe the newer ones hold approx. 7 hours battery life and the old ones (this one) hold about 5. That's right Pete, no firewire. Apple f'cked up there. They didn't put Firewire on this series of MacBook unibody laptops. (but they did on the Macbook Pros) Bassballs - Apple use what they call a 'Mini Display Port' on their laptops now. You can get all kinds of adapters to suit the screen you need. I used this laptop with a Mini Display Port to DVI adapter > DVI to HDMI cable (they don't currently make Display to HDMI adapters) with a 32" Samsung LCD TV at home, it looked awesome! -

I've had nothing but failure with this on ebay! The first time I listed it the winning bidder didn't pay, the second time I listed it ebay have just cancelled it 2 hours before it finishes due to "keyword spamming" because I put 'as new' in the title. Here's my description from the ebay listing: ------------ Apple MacBook unibody 13.3” screen / 2.4GHz / 250GB HD / 2GB RAM in AS NEW CONDITION. I purchased this laptop at the end of March 2009, making it just over 2 months old which means it has 10 months of warranty remaining. I’m selling it because I have no need for a laptop anymore since buying an iMac recently. This has been a fantastic machine. I’ve used it mostly for graphic design work and it has performed flawlessly. I have looked after this laptop carefully and always kept it in a decent laptop bag so it is in as new condition. It comes with the original packaging and all the items that it originally came with: Power supply. Power supply extension cord. Cleaning cloth. Mac OS X Leopard install DVD. iLife 09 software. I will return the MacBook software to its’ original state before shipping, so that when you switch it on it will be like switching on a brand new Mac. Once payment is received I will ship this item via TNT couriers, fully insured, within 2 working days. FULL SPEC: Apple MacBook 13-inch LED-backlit widescreen notebook 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM 250GB 5400-rpm hard drive 13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display; 1280 by 800 pixels NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with mail memory Built-in iSight video camera Multi-touch trackpad 8x slot-loading SuperDrive Two USB 2.0 ports Mini DisplayPort Optical digitalaudio/analog audioinput and output ports; build-in stereo speakers Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T ethernet Built-in airport extreme wireless networking(802.11)*3 and bluetooth 2.1+EDR Backlit keyboard and ambient light sensor --------- Here's some pics. I listed it 'as new' on ebay because it really is in as new condition. Not a mark on it. £750 Delivered - with payment by bank transfer or cheque. £770 Delivered - with payment by Paypal (that's with 3% added to cover the fees)

I put these pickups in my Warwick Thumb and quickly decided that they weren't the right pickups for that bass. They've only seen about 10 minutes play time, so the pickup casing is in immaculate condition. They were also very tidily installed and removed from the bass, hence they are in as-new condition. These pickups are a great replacement for Jazz pickups that lack character. I can imagine they would be a superb upgrade for a Mexican Fender Jazz. They are the standard 84' model, as seen on the Wizard website (www.wizardpickups.com), so they will fit any Jazz bass with standard pickup cavity sizes. They come with the hook-up wires and screws. Bought new for £70. £50 Delivered with Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded.

I've had this pedal for about 4 weeks, so it's in mint condition. I've just found that I've not got much use out of it since my band has taken a bit of a u-turn into a noisier, more hectic direction. Hence I need to fund nasty noise pedals, so this one has to go. I'd describe this pedal as a slightly crazy envelope filter with an awesome step filter function. You can do a lot with it. I found it to sound stunning with an EHX Micro POG running into it on the Step Filter setting and some delay running next in the chain. There's a bunch of demo videos of it on youtube, not many bass ones though. I saw a video of Tayste playing around with one once but I haven't been able to find it since. That video is cool though, if anyone can find it! Its' got the newer paint job (which is now shown on the SubDecay site http://www.subdecay.com/pm.htm), I'll post pics when I get in from work. I've put some velcro on the bottom but I still have the rubber feet which I carefully removed. It's very freshly built, April 2009. £150 delivered with Royal Mail Special Delivery. These pedals are now £175 new, if you can get hold of them. I had to wait well over 2 months for mine. So that's a nice little saving on an as-new pedal.

In reply to the OP: I used an LMK for a couple of years with a variety of basses. I went for the LMK based on its' power, portability and how it let the nuances of different basses shine through. It was a great amp with my vintage Precision and it sounded just as great with my Streamer Stage 1. I think that's testament enough to how flexible this amp can be!

There have been 2 significant price increases throughout many music industry distributors in the past 6 months. The first one was last November and the second was around the beginning of April. It's this damn climate. No one wants to raise their prices but shops are forced to when their suppliers are upping prices, it's simply a knock-on effect. Even UK-built products are being drawn into this because they are often sourcing their materials from outside the UK. Sadly it's something we'll just have to get used to, or at least until the Dollar rate is a bit kinder to us!
Or for an alternate view.....They're great. Put one on my Wal years ago and love it for the ability to quickly drop down and back up even when you are playing. Always comes back in tune within a few cents, and setting the drop only takes me a few back & forth checks. I always leave it switched down in the case to prevent the thumb wheel that sets the drop getting knocked in transit.
+1. I've got one on my Streamer Stage 1 and its worked a treat. I just check it's in tune for standard and drop-d once at the beginning of a gig or rehearsal and I don't need to check it again, I play about 50/50 in standard/dropped.

The Akai Headrush gets my vote. I've used a few loopers and currently have a Boss DD-20 and Akai Headrush on my pedal board. The DD-20 is far more delay orientated but I've always liked the looper function, it's very simple, all you can do with it is record and overdub (as many times as you want). You can't save any loops into it and there's no stop/start function after a loop has been recorded. I mainly use this pedal for its' delay functions though. The Akai Headrush is a more versatile looper and it also sounds a little more organic to my ears. You can also stop and start loops with the Headrush.

It's nice to see some professional looking band shots, good on you for making the effort with it.
You start them without the string by flicking them with your thumb... (NOTE: this takes a bit of practice. ) NEVER roll them on the carpet or your jeans etc. they gather dust and cease this way.
Ah... that's probably why mine is dead now. I lost the string ages ago. I've had mine for about 3 years now, time for a fresh one I think. Who's bought one recently? Where's the cheapest place?

change of plan! I've decided to just make one instead. That way I can have the size of casing I want and exactly the kind of switch too. Cheers for the suggestions though chaps.

Where can I get a decent quality, relatively compact tap-tempo switch to use in the 'control out' on my Boss DD-20? It'll take quite a regular kicking so it needs to be sturdy! Ed

Lakland Duck Dunn Skyline or Japanese Fender Precision?

Just spotted this in the for sale section. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...kland+duck+dunn -
Bit of an update: Needs a bit of a tidy up but don't see myself wanting much more at the moment. Wouldn't mind replacing the Octoplus with an Octabass at some point though.
This looks like some kind of puzzle. Are you having trouble figuring out where those last 2 pieces should fit? I bet that board is loadsa fun!

Haven't done this in a while, thought I'd add an update. It's pretty obvious what's on it so I won't bore you with the details.
Moogerfooger mf101 with an expression pedal (or two) is very controllable. Some 101's buzz a bit but you can fix this by shielding the insides of the wood panels with copper sheet. I'll get some samples up using the ep in my review later.
I'll look forward to having a listen

Thanks for the offers chaps but I'm just trying to get an idea for what's out there and what people recommend at the moment.

I'm starting to think my pedal board would benefit from a limiter at the end of the line as I'm getting a little paranoid about what the overly harsh peaks from my envelope filter might be doing to my poor amp. Can anyone recommend a good limiter pedal? The other option is getting rid of my EBS IQ envelope and getting an envelope filter that has a little more control. I use envelope effects for big ambient effects in songs, never for short funky stabs. So something with a little more control might be a better option. I use my envelope filter a lot so I'm willing to shell out some bucks on something decent if that's a better option. Thoughts? I'm not very familiar with what's out there in the world of envelope filters at the moment. Cheers Ed
Total tonal devastation.
I like that expression Tim! I get total tonal devastation when I run my 70's P-bass with the gain cranked past 3 o'clock. It sounds huge, or TTD to quote Tim.

I used a TA503 for a couple of years. It was great amp, loads of control over your sound with that EQ. When I bought my first Markbass amp, an LMK, I was tempted with the TA503 but was put off by the price tag, coupled with a lot of people saying the sound difference was not that noticeable. To be honest, I wish I'd gone with the TA503 to begin with because I really could hear the difference. That valve pre-amp gives a warmer, more organic tone and the semi-parametric EQ is simply awesome. I found the semi-parametric EQ to be very useful at gigs for correcting nasty low-mids. I generally found that I'd dial in a punchy hi-mid sound, a little percussiveness from the high control, some fat rounded tones from the low control and like I said, use the low mid for correctional EQ. But this is of course just one way of using that kind of EQ, there are so many possibilities. Like a couple of other guys have mentioned, I'd recommend trying out these amps first, and try to get some volume out of them too. Depending on how loud you play, you'll notice that the TA503 doesn't kick in with this kind of natural compression when the volume is up to around 11 o'clock.

Apparently the new Orange gear will be available around mid-June. That'll include the Bass Terror.
