1. It's nice to see some professional looking band shots, good on you for making the effort with it.
2.
You start them without the string by flicking them with your thumb... (NOTE: this takes a bit of practice. ) NEVER roll them on the carpet or your jeans etc. they gather dust and cease this way.
Ah... that's probably why mine is dead now. I lost the string ages ago. I've had mine for about 3 years now, time for a fresh one I think. Who's bought one recently? Where's the cheapest place?
3. change of plan! I've decided to just make one instead. That way I can have the size of casing I want and exactly the kind of switch too. Cheers for the suggestions though chaps.
4. Where can I get a decent quality, relatively compact tap-tempo switch to use in the 'control out' on my Boss DD-20? It'll take quite a regular kicking so it needs to be sturdy! Ed
5. Just spotted this in the for sale section. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...kland+duck+dunn
6.
Bit of an update: Needs a bit of a tidy up but don't see myself wanting much more at the moment. Wouldn't mind replacing the Octoplus with an Octabass at some point though.
This looks like some kind of puzzle. Are you having trouble figuring out where those last 2 pieces should fit? I bet that board is loadsa fun!
7. Haven't done this in a while, thought I'd add an update. It's pretty obvious what's on it so I won't bore you with the details.

Limiter pedals
Moogerfooger mf101 with an expression pedal (or two) is very controllable. Some 101's buzz a bit but you can fix this by shielding the insides of the wood panels with copper sheet. I'll get some samples up using the ep in my review later.
I'll look forward to having a listen

Limiter pedals

Thanks for the offers chaps but I'm just trying to get an idea for what's out there and what people recommend at the moment.

Limiter pedals

I'm starting to think my pedal board would benefit from a limiter at the end of the line as I'm getting a little paranoid about what the overly harsh peaks from my envelope filter might be doing to my poor amp. Can anyone recommend a good limiter pedal? The other option is getting rid of my EBS IQ envelope and getting an envelope filter that has a little more control. I use envelope effects for big ambient effects in songs, never for short funky stabs. So something with a little more control might be a better option. I use my envelope filter a lot so I'm willing to shell out some bucks on something decent if that's a better option. Thoughts? I'm not very familiar with what's out there in the world of envelope filters at the moment. Cheers Ed
11.
Total tonal devastation.
I like that expression Tim! I get total tonal devastation when I run my 70's P-bass with the gain cranked past 3 o'clock. It sounds huge, or TTD to quote Tim.
12. I used a TA503 for a couple of years. It was great amp, loads of control over your sound with that EQ. When I bought my first Markbass amp, an LMK, I was tempted with the TA503 but was put off by the price tag, coupled with a lot of people saying the sound difference was not that noticeable. To be honest, I wish I'd gone with the TA503 to begin with because I really could hear the difference. That valve pre-amp gives a warmer, more organic tone and the semi-parametric EQ is simply awesome. I found the semi-parametric EQ to be very useful at gigs for correcting nasty low-mids. I generally found that I'd dial in a punchy hi-mid sound, a little percussiveness from the high control, some fat rounded tones from the low control and like I said, use the low mid for correctional EQ. But this is of course just one way of using that kind of EQ, there are so many possibilities. Like a couple of other guys have mentioned, I'd recommend trying out these amps first, and try to get some volume out of them too. Depending on how loud you play, you'll notice that the TA503 doesn't kick in with this kind of natural compression when the volume is up to around 11 o'clock.
13. Apparently the new Orange gear will be available around mid-June. That'll include the Bass Terror.
14.
I could only find this pic of my rig, it's a bit similar to Daves' rig.. and Basszilla might have a similar pic to share too This pic is from a live stoner-rock recording that I played bass for last summer. It was far from the most ideal cab setup but it worked surprisingly well. The Tiny Terror and Marshall cab was being used by a synth player, my AD200B and Berg NV610 is nestled in the middle and the Orange 4x12 on the end had a Thunderverb 200 linked up to it in the other room. The Tiny Terror, NV610 and AD200B are my toys, the rest of it was borrowed from various people that kindly lent us stuff for our Orangey mission...
edit: forgot to mention, if you stick a nice vintage mic infront of an NV610 with an AD200B you're quite likely too poop yourself from the stunning tone, I've spoken to Basszilla about this before, he had a similar experience. You can also use the slave out on the AD200B as DI out live, I did this for the first time the other day at a gig and had a lot of compliments on my tone - so it must have sounded alright!

16. I don't think these will be out for a couple of months yet. I can probably get hold of a rough release date though, I'll post it here if I do.
17. Get well soon!
18.
I love the top and the simple, uncluttered look of the bass as a whole.
I think you've hit the nail on the head there. Mr Shuker has this amazing knack of keeping bass designs so sleek and stylish without making them look like exquisite coffee tables. This is something like the 4th time I've been back to look at this bass in the last day. GAS is a terrible thing.
19. That's a stunning bass. I bet you're one happy chap!
20. I've been on the hunt for something like this for a while. I'll be interested to see some pics when you've got it if possible. Thanks Ed
21. I've been using a couple of different Hercules stands for a while. I agree about the good engineering - something I've really noticed with them is how they seem to work well with that whole gravity lark, other stands that I've tried have felt like they'd just fall over with a puff of wind!
22. This is giving me major GAS! I played a new Gibson USA Thunderbird the other day and it got my GAS going but after reading that this has maple/walnut neckthru construction, ebony fretboard and flame maple body wings... want. (Defo agree on the black scratch plate though!)

BeLow, I'll send you a PM with Spikes' contact details. He biased/serviced my AD200B recently and did a sterling job for a very reasonable price.
24.
What I would like to see - altho it's probably not totally viable due to weight and space - but a dual channel bass head with an ad200b but with the added preamp from the thunderverb 200 or from the tiny terror guitar head.. it'll never happen but i think it would sound like a monster.
Just a dual channel AD200B would be killer! RRAWWWW!
25. I'm a little skeptical about Orange using digital power stages in amps. We'll have to see what the Bass Terror sounds like. They've also just announced that they're releasing a couple of cool guitar amps too. - Dual Terror: a 30 watt, 2 channel Tiny Terror - Tiny Terror Hard Wired Edition (a British-made, hi-spec Tiny Terror) I seem to remember there's a few people on here that use Tiny Terrors for their guitaring ways. I've been using one for a couple of years and it's been an awesome bit of kit so I'm quite excited about these two guitar-based things.
