which kyuss basslines would you say use distortion? (sorry to go off topic, but i'm a kyuss fanboy)
In reference to Nick Oliveri, he just uses a 70's Ampeg V4 cranked up with a P-Bass that's had the volume pot taken out, going straight into an Ernie Ball volume pedal. From what I gather, that's pretty much all he's ever used.

I'm in an instrumental 3-piece called Brux www.myspace.com/bruxband

DBX 160A Compressor/Limiter - Mint condition, original packaging - sold (pending) I highly recommend this for use with Markbass amps, I tried all sorts of compressors with my Markbass gear and none came close to how good this sounds when it's run last in the signal chain before the amp. I'm sure it sounds great with other amps too of course, Marcus Miller gives the 160A the thumbs up Behringer Ultrabass BB210 - Good condition, corner blocks are a little scuffed but the grill is immaculate, no dings or dents anywhere. - sold 2x10 / 600watt / 8 ohm Ed

I've just finished recording with my instrumental band, Brux. We spent 2 days recording 7 live tracks, no overdubs, just a few live loops in places. We were just after a fairly decent live recording but it's come out far better than we thought it would for a hired scout-hut recording! Currently we've got 3 tracks on myspace (myspace.com/bruxband), I used my vintage P Bass for 'In Medias Res', going into a Marshall VBA400, Bergantino NV610 and using a Fulltone Bassdrive for dirt. The other two tracks on there are my Thumb Bolt-On with the same amp and cab. Cheers
Hi, I notice you also have a Bergantino NV610. Could you tell me what the TA503 sounds like through that cabinet? Steve
Hi Steve, The TA503 sounds quite punchy through the NV610. It's not as squeaky clean sounding as the other Markbass heads but you wont get any overdrive out of it. It works very nicely for finger style and plectrum playing through the NV610 but it's no good for slap playing, although I don't imagine you have an NV610 for slap bass! Have you tried any other markbass heads through your 610? I could compare them for you as I've had experience with quite a few of them. I'm struggling a bit to describe the sound of the 503 plugged into the NV! IMHO the 503 is at it's best when it's plugged into Markbass cabs. I used to use it with a Markbass 4x10 and 1x15 and found it to be incredibly versatile.

I've just bought an all-valve monster and I can't justify having two amps, so this one has to go. It sounds more organic than it's other Markbass buddies (except the Classic 300!) and it's quite a lot louder than the other 500w Markbass amps. The semi-parametric EQ is very powerful and gives you loads of options from taking out the nasty frequencies that are making the room rattle like mad or boosting those mids that you want more of, for example. Spec: CONTROLS GAIN: –80 dB to +35 dB range MASTER VOLUME LINE OUT: level control on front panel PRE/POST EQ: (for line out) switch on rear panel GROUND LIFT: switch on rear panel FOOTSWITCH: mute; EQ bypass EQUALIZATION LOW: semi-parametric: frequency 40–300 Hz; level ±16 dB LOW-MID: semi-parametric: frequency 100–800 Hz, level ±16 dB HIGH-MID: semi-parametric: frequency 700 Hz–6 kHz, level ±16 dB HIGH: semi-parametric: frequency 1.5–10 kHz, level ±16 dB VPF (Variable Pre-shape Filter): center frequency 380 Hz (cut) VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator): 250 Hz–20 kHz cut OUTPUTS EFFECT SEND: unbalanced, max. voltage 20 Vpp (pre-EQ) EFFECT RETURN TUNER OUT: unbalanced, max. voltage 2 Vpp LINE OUT: balanced XLR, max. voltage 15 Vpp SPEAKER OUT: speakon, 1/4" OTHER HEIGHT: 3.39 in. / 8.6 cm (2U) WIDTH: 14.5" / 36.8 cm (with rack ears: 19" / 48.3 cm) DEPTH: 11.89 in. / 30.2 cm WEIGHT: 8.16 lbs / 3.7 kg TUBES: 1 x EECC81, 1 x ECC83 (JJ Electronic) OUTPUT POWER: 300W RMS @ 8 ohm, 500W RMS @ 4 ohm As many of you will have seen in the repairs forum I recently had a problem with this amp where it blew it's power block http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21784. That happened roughly 3 months ago, Proel (UK Markbass distributors) repaired it for me within a week and I've been using it twice a week for band practices since and it's been perfect. This amp is still under warranty until mid-november, I have the original receipt and warranty card, I also have all the original packaging. There are no big marks or blemishes on the amp, just some very light rack-rash that I couldn't photograph because it's so minor. It's always lived in a rack since the day I bought it brand new. I've also got the 2-Button footswitch for it and the rack ears. These are the kind of speakon connections that you can put jack leads into the middle of, clever stuff... I'm after £550 for this amp. I can send it via next day courier, fully insured for £10. Payment via transfer is preffered, or collection in person with cash would be fine. I can accept paypal if you can add a little extra to cover the fees Thanks
And yeah those Orange heads are awesome...well they look awesome...anyone tried one out?
I've been using one with a Bergantino 6x10 for a few weeks. Very fat sound, you can real dirt out of it. I like to run it so the pre-amp is just breaking up a little and I use a Fulltone Bassdrive to break the pre-amp up more mixed with the Fulltone's drive for overdriven sounds. The AD200 definitely needs to be tried out before buying though, it's a very specific kind of sound that some people really don't get on with. I didn't get on with the sound of it until I plugged it into my 6x10 I fully recommend trying to get your hands on one and having a go with your 8x10. It might not be your cup of tea, but I'm pretty sure Nate from Converge used an AD200 on the recording of You Fail Me. To my ears that recording sounds just like an AD200 with the gain cranked fairly high. I don't know that for sure but that's how it sounds and I know that he's been using an AD200 for a while now.

When I feel like that I take a step back from my bass playing, I'll still be at practice twice a week but in between I won't play at all. I think it's about getting that perspective on where you are with your playing and how you feel about music right now. Also, remember why you started playing bass. I used to practice for up to 6 hours a day but now I don't practice at all, I just write tunes and a lot of the time I do that without a bass in my hands, I'll just figure out things in my head. It suits me perfectly to work like that right now, but in 6 months time I might start practicing again. It's important to stay open minded and don't pressure yourself. Just take it easy.

Within the next 2 weeks I plan on putting my Markbass TA503, 4x10 and 1x15 up for sale. I've recently had a massive change in direction with my bass sound, resulting in me buying an Orange AD200B and Bergantino NV610. The TA503 is an awesome amp. valve pre-amp, very loud, 500w, semi-parametric EQ (www.markbass.it for the spec!). It sounds more organic than it's other Markbass buddies (except the Classic 300!) and it is quite a lot louder than the other 500w Markbass amps, not that you ever really need more volume from these amps anyway! As many of you will have seen in the repairs forum I recently had a problem with this amp where it blew it's power block http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21784. That happened over 2 months ago, Proel (UK Markbass distributors) repaired it for me within a week and I've been using it twice a week for band practices since and it's been perfect. This amp is still under warranty until mid-november, I have the original receipt and warranty card, I also have all the original packaging. There are no marks or blemishes on the amp, it's always lived in a rack since the day I bought it brand new. TA503: £550 I will also be selling my Markbass cabs. They are the HR models with the ports on the back. Both of them are in great condition, the plastic corners on the 4x10 are a little scuffed up but there are no digs or dents in the carpet or grill of either of them. They've both always been used with the TA503 and have never been abused! 410HR (4x10) - *SOLD* 115HR (1x15) - *SOLD* I'd prefer collection from Plymouth but I can post this stuff for a reasonable price. Give me a PM if you have any questions, I'll get some pics sorted as soon as I can. Cheers, Ed
