1. That takes the piss!
2. if i had £5k to spend on a bass, this would most probably be the one. good luck with the sale
3. If it was me, I'd pull out of paying for it. I'd apologise for wasting their time but do it on the grounds that they lied in the auction saying that it's over 20 years old. They could argue that you should of checked the serial number before but they're in the wrong because they lied in the auction which is a breech of ebay's rules.
4. I've been using a markbass TA503 for the last year or so. It's a bit louder than the LMK I had before and it also doesn't compress as much as the LMK. I think the LMK is exactly the same as the LM2 inside, except for there being 2 seperate input sections in the LMK. The TA503 does sound a fair bit louder overall, I've had no problem playing in a loud stoner rock band with it but the LMK never really cut like the TA503 does. Did that make sense? I can't write or think properly today.
5.
It's not a money thing - for some strange reason I've always felt uncomfortable owning 3 basses and just don't believe in keeping anything that gathers dust. Anybody else suffer with this strange condition?
I know what you mean. I feel exactly like this about electric guitars, I currently have 1 electric guitar that I play every day and that's the only guitar I own. Whereas with bass I currently own 5, 1 or 2 of which will sometimes go a couple of weeks without leaving their cases. If this was my electric guitar I'd feel bad but with basses I don't and I don't have a clue why.
6. For me there's two sides to amps- vintage and modern. I've got my modern amp which serves me very well and one day I'll buy an old Ampeg. However with basses it's totally different, the more the merrier!
7.
How do I choose ? it's not easy I like them all The Overwaters are stunning and are my main gigging basses they will cut thru any mix.
That's interesting that you choose those to gig with over the others, I think Chris May would be proud to hear that.
8. More pics of that would be great, what a stunner! How does it sound with the pickup there?
9.
Not sure. Herne Bay is pretty pikey. Don't know if I fancy it. Jokes aside, the reason I like to avoid buying online is that I like to try before buying. I appreciate that I could try in store and then order online but I'm to impulsive. If I play something and like it, I want it there and then, and to me, waiting a couple of weeks but saving £50/100 just isn't worth it. Crazing I know. Also, I like shops. Wouldn't want less web-savvy retailers to close down!
Good on ya! There are some good music shops around and they need support because otherwise they'll all end up dead within the next 10 years, if things carry on the way they are, - that is unless they open up or already have very cheap online stores.
10. I've find my metronome to be a handy practice tool from time to time, after all it is just a practice tool. I like to use mine to work on consistency of technique, not so much learning to play in time. I see no harm in practicing with a metronome, it's just not the be all end all and everyone knows that. The main constraint on a musician not playing something in time is technique, or to be more specific- your brain not being super efficient at getting the right message to your hands at the right time.
11.
Right handed. Shoe size 10.
no way!? Me too! What shoes do you wear mostly?
12. Nice relic job. Do they come like that?
13. We used one in my old band just a for a bit of ambiance and fatness! You've got to be careful not to be overkill with this unit though, else it sounds CHEEEZE! www.myspace.com/highwillhays
14. How come Eric Clapton with his 'blackie' and jaco with his fretless jazz DIDN'T make it into the top 5? And why Jimmy Page with a double neck SG? Surely people picture Jimmy with a Les Paul? Or is it just me?
15. Nice bass! I had a go on one of these a while back and was very impressed by how comfortable they are to play. Good luck with the sale.
16. Nice! I'll buy a rumour, one day. I met bernie a while back and played one of his rumours that he takes around to shops, I was blown away by it, it practically played itself!!
17. I find that a lot of guitarists and drummers inspire the way I write music. I'm pretty 50/50 guitar/bass with writing stuff. I'll come up with something on guitar then go to my bass and vice versa because it opens ideas up for me.
18. I think half the problem with bad FOH sound is a lack of communication between the band and the engineer.
19. That bridge pickup sounds like the kind of tone I could play on for hours!
20.
And another one - and being early 90's is a little more desirable: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=012
Putting a bass next to the radiator is always a good idea. I hope that was only there for the photos
21. I can answer question 2 for you- Yes, they are very loud for what they are.
22. I'm finding this very hard! I keep switching between the two tracks, I prefer the bass sound on the first track. I think that track is the MIA Jazz into POD because those sound like round-wounds to me. I'm getting lost in how good the drums sound... I hope I'm not wavering towards the dark side
23.
Troy Sanders - solid bass player, good writer, and an amazing vocalist
He's awesome! I'm surprised no one's mentioned Les Claypool yet. I find his bass lines incredibly hard to play and sing along with because of the wacky rhythms he uses.
24. Lots of food for thought here! Thanks Bassbloke, I've been sticking to using nickel plated strings on this bass to tame the zingyness a little, which seems to be working quite well. A new nut is definitely in order for it, I'll give a tusq one a shot i think. Thats interesting about the setup on your jazz, I'll try setting the neck straight as opposed to the very slight relief it has at the moment. Which gauge of EMP's do you use? Beerdragon, I've heard a few people singing the praises of a set of Wizards in a Jazz bass recently. I reckon I'm gonna give these a shot once my bank account has recovered from christmas. I've just been reading about them on their website and the 84's sound like they'd do the trick for me.
