Are you sure that is wise in the Plymouth area?
Nope! But I'm a fast runner. I'm playing at the Hub, so i'll be right next to union street (rated the 4th roughest street in country if I remember rightly!). Lovely.
Play the easiest 3 you've run through, refuse to play the other 3 and insist on playing Rawhide, Stand By Your Man and I Walk the Line. If he argues, remind him the rugby is on and that's a game played by gentlemen, and a gentleman wouldn't have treated you the way that he's treated you. Hamster
I feel inspired by this, I think I will demand a bass solo spot and a cover song of my choice. I pick 'Blood Red' by Slayer, a popular classic in the country community in plymouth.

Thanks alot for the replies. It made for a great read! I knew that I'd get some good food for thought posting on here. Last night I was feeling as stubborn as a mule and was almost set on not playing the gig just to prove a point, but you lot have convinced me otherwise. I'm gonna do it, and I'm gonna wear a pink tutu. BASSCHAT POWER! Cheers!

That's stunning. Mr Shuker really is upping his game all the time. Congratulations!

I'm in a some what of a predicament with gig I'm supposed to be playing tomorrow (sat) night. To cut a long story short, I'm doing some session work for a good friends' country band. I've had about an hour and a half to learn 6 of his original songs with the band up to gigging standard, they're not tricky tunes but I'm quite a way off feeling confident with gigging them. I was supposed to be rehearsing these tunes with him last night but he stitched me up. I got in from work and rushed to get my stuff together and shove food down my throat, tried to phone him and no answer. I tried 3 times and had no luck and he's only just contacted me over 24 hours later, now there's no chance of rehearsing these tunes before the gig because I'll be at work tomorrow. The predicament really is this, I havnt played a gig in nearly a year and I'm dying to play live again. However, I think he needs to be taught a lesson in me not showing up tomorrow and not answering my phone when he calls. He's done this kind of stuff before too, it's not just a one-off. ...and there's also the slightly large issue of me not feeling confident in playing these songs. What would you do? I don't know if I'd be cutting off my nose to spite my face by not showing up. It's not like it's a big opportunity of a gig, it's just that I havnt gigged in ages. I don't know what to do!
true-valve DON'T mean good sound, neither does solid state ;-)
Damn right! Anyone heard the new Line 6 Spider 'Bogner' guitar amps that they've put valves in? It just goes to show, you can stick a valve in a turd... and it will still sound like a turd.

I'm 99% sure that's a MIM model Dave. Check out this site- http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/index.php?...guitars&a=3

the DBX 160A is great, it's become an essential part of my rig because it seems to add something really nice to my sound. Even when it's not compressing, it sounds good.

I've been using D'addario Chromes (45-100) flats on my 74' p-bass for a while, it sounds great. It feels like flats were made for this bass (or vice-versa!).

cool vid, really enjoyed that. Cheers!

The cable should be inside your mac. Have a good feel around the inside of the drive bay, they should be tucked into the bottom of it if you're fitting the drive into bay 2. I had to kind of pull the cable up for mine, it's hard to explain though. If you have no luck, let me know and I'll take a pic of where they were inside my powermac.

I can't believe he's still at it! I don't blame him for being pissed off about it but hasn't it been nearly a year now?
personally i would got for one that around 1990 and before, they have thiner neck and dont suffer from neck dive.
Warwick changed from using wenge to ovangkol on the bolt-on's to help tackle the neck dive problem according to Seth Horan (endorsee and demo/clinic bloke!). I'd imagine the same applies to the neck-thru models.
Don't discount the newer Thumb BO4's. I don't think the change from Wenge to Ovangkol makes as much difference as many think - I'm not the most discerning guy but my 2006 BO4 has more than enough snap, punch and growl. There is a bit of neck dive but it's no worse than my old Corvette and easily cured with a 3 inch strap. I moved from a Jazz to one of these and found I prefer the neck profile on the Thumb. These are currently pretty good value used - £600 isn't unusual for a good example. Try one and make your own mind up.
I play a 1999 thumb BO with the wenge neck, personally I think it feels very different to the newer ovangkol necks. I've A/B'd my old thumb BO with a new thumb BO and the difference is really quite noticable! The wenge necks are thinner and the frets are smaller, this results in a neck that feels faster to play.

Sailing the seas of cheese got me into primus and is the reason I started playing bass. So on that note, I recommend buying that album.

Any UK-based luthiers doing "relicing" treatments?
thumbo replied to Mike's topic in Repairs and Technical
wear a belt with a buckle, a hoodie with zip pockets and (if you're into metal) studded wristbands when you practice
These are all good for speeding up the process. You can also selotape fine-grade sand paper to your right arm and make sand paper gloves to wear whilst practicing. Don't use stuff that's too course though, else it won't look natural. This kind of belt buckle will work a treat - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/American-Eagle-Belt-...1QQcmdZViewItem As steve mentioned, if you're into metal, studded wristbands help. I recommend this- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-ROW-NEON-PINK-STUD...1QQcmdZViewItem -
y'all need to be a little less judgemental.
I don't think people were being judgmental, I think the general consensus on this forum is that it looks a bit sh*t.
Why does this whole thread make me think, the phrase "Who cares, some of you need to get out more"? Its just an instrument....an object. There are bigger things occurring in the world.
This is a forum, where people discuss things.

It's really great to hear these positive comments about a shop that isn't just an online-whore for a change! Mansons clearly provide a great service and it's good to see that in this case that means more to people than the price. It's just a shame that the internet has punched the wind out of any up and coming music shops. It's getting to the point where there's almost no point in starting up a decent shop. I think that's a shame and it will really kick people in the nuts in years to come when there's a big lack of places to go and try stuff out.
What other method of relicing a bass would the customer expect, asking a guitar shop to do it rather than a luthier? I'm sure he knew what he was in for.
Perhaps he thought the guitar shop had an on-sight luthier or that they were in some way affiliated with a local luthier? Nahh... that's a just a crazy idea!

They don't have a clue what they're doing.

From a little bit of research, I can confirm that this is Eric Lindsey Music Shop in Catford, London. Visit http://www.elmusic.co.uk/ and remember, don't go there.

for anyone who's interested, here's a link of them playing one of their new tunes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmOR1I2Q-OI
I thought exactly the same thing, I assumed that the recordings were simply layered and that live they'd be more "stripped down" but all the looping really added another element to the show IMO.
Apparently it's all live loops on the record and not overdubs. They've got their looping skills nailed!
-
They're absolute loop-pedal monsters, I didn't realise how much they looped stuff until I saw them kicking their Headrush's on and off all the time. That's where their massive sound comes from.
-
I saw them in exeter, got talking to them and the drummer put me and my buddy on the guest list for the high on fire gig in bristol. Both gigs were awesome, the exeter one was my favourite of the two because they played a new track which was great to hear after listening to their first (and only) album non-stop for the last year. I've never met such a hard working band and they're incredibly down to earth fellas.
Hold on, ignore parts of my above post. They now make a version of ProTools that allows you to use other hardware? I looked on the Digidesign site a while ago, but I got the impression that they still only allowed use of Mbox etc hardware. I;m somewhat of a recording novice, though, so if you could give me some info on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
M-audio make some hardware that can be used with protools. I bought an M-audio Fast track Pro audio interface because I only really intend on using Logic Pro but if I decide to start using Pro Tools, I'm sorted for that too. www.m-audio.com/
