Not sure you'd justify a GT-1B and a Zoom B3n but it's a good unit. Regarding the fiddly editing.. that's all resolved with a USB cable and Boss Studio app. Dead easy and hugely in-depth. Disappointing then that to date, there's no artist patches or indeed any uploads on Tone Central other than the two starter libraries - which are a bit 'random'?

It's a really great album... one of the most triumphant bass intros ever! Not to mention Bill Bruford absolutely killing throughout. All helped along by an absence of guitars... Andrew Pryce Jackman's contributions were overlooked I think but rightfully acknowledged by CS on his commentary.

Yeah sad... wasn't intimately familiar with their songs but I enjoyed their big singles

Wait! They were miming!? All those years and they were miming!? Arghghg the humanity...

Every venue has a similar legend... Queen at the Manchester Apollo... Anyway saw Fast Eddie and the boys in the classic Motorhead line-up on the 'Ace of Spades' tour but they were still using the Bomber lighting rig... very impressive. Less so Vardis & Girlschool supporting. Vardis sporting the old talc in the hair routine.

Chris Squire not to impressed at Noel's skills here at 1:45

Definitely an Alembic Stanley Clarke vibe from the body shape...

That catalogue is insane. Even if they the produce no more than the one of each type they used for the catalogue, that's more guitars and basses than there are players in the entire universe. The artist basses look nice but I suspect the Thundercat will be as savagely expensive as its brethren... EDIT: Oops didn't see previous post... £7k eh... hmmm. That's a nope then. Suspect the similar Yamaha John Patitucci archtop will be the same.

Interesting vlog on Janek Gwizdala's new signature bass here. He's gone with Mattisson but i'm not sure that will bring the cost down to reasonable levels even if it halves the cost of his Foderas... The double cut shape reminds me of a Lakland? Let's see what comes of the 'factory pricing'...

The one that got away in 99/00 Manchester Bass Centre
visog replied to AndyTravis's topic in Bass Guitars
I remember it too way out of the way in Castlefields - quite a walk near the canal locks. It started with some exotic gear then got progressively more mainstream. I remember they had a shop-soilded Fodera AJ they were trying to off-load for ages... Came from the Wapping store where they were selling for a customer. Still bloody expensive then. -
The 17 best bass players in the world right now!
visog replied to casapete's topic in General Discussion
Hmph... maybe the seventeen last bass players the writer googled. No Hadrien or Mohini WTF? -
So these are Brian Bromberg's signature basses (the 'B' in 'B Quad'). I think he's had a few companies make them. Currently with Kiesel: https://www.kieselguitars.com/catalog/guitars/b24 Haven't tried one so can't comment but the Peavey looks nice.

Got an XT too. Good working bass when tat'ing with the DAW and keyboards, i.e. a home studio situation. Whilst it's doesn't have the tone of my GB, similarly neither doesn have the planet-sucking 18v to keep feeding so you can noodle with your studio to your heart's content and it doesn't get in the way. Channels 'Signals' era Geddy

Muchio respect for Billy... Very personable and a great raconteur. Not sure I've heard anyone with a more refined right-hand. His solo on the Stanley special is probably the best... and Stanley's response at 7:40 is hilarious... Second vid is Bill showing he can cut it in jazz which we know from Niacin.

So popped into Dawsons Manchester today before a business meeting on Portland Street. Very impressed with the Ibanez range hanging up. Eye drawn to a beautiful blue flame 5-string, with all sorts of electronics going on and importantly, a very low action. Took a look at the price - £349! Rest of the range continued to impress... Beautiful fretlesses with strings hugging the boards. Multi-scale 4 and 5s too. Incredible. No I didn't try them but at prices like that for a good quality starter, you'd have change for a B3k and you're in business... * stares at own £3k bass - "start pulling your weight fatty..." * PS. Dawsons had an awesome range of stuff... worth a visit if you're in town.

Gibson shelving another brand they bought
visog replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
Gibson bought Tobias basses too. So there goes onward compatibility with my Cakewalk CWP files then... What a stinky poo M&A strategy they have... no wonder they're on their knees. "Gibson Brands announced today that it is ceasing active development and production of Cakewalk branded products. The decision was made to better align with the company’s acquisition strategy that is heavily focused on growth in the global consumer electronics audio business under the Philips brand." Their press release is hockum too - 'better align' means write of the debts they never made up because they did nothing with the brand - idiots. And Cakewalk was never 'consumer electronics audio' anyway! Can they not tell the difference between DAW hardware and software and a radio! -
Stupid thread... the jazz (and rock) music worlds are shrinking so quickly and this is what we're discussing?

Ibanez TCB1006 - Thundercat Signature Bass (6 string hollow body)
visog replied to Mwoit's topic in Bass Guitars
With any luck, and like with the Gerald Veasley and Gary Willis models, there'll be a more affordable counterpart along shortly if enough interest is shown. Particularly as Thundercat is probably their most high profile bass endorser at the moment... http://www.ibanez.com/products/u_eb_sig_series17.php?year=2017&cat_id=2&series_id=67 -
Is this a parallel universe without Darkglass or TwoNotes?
