1.
Apparently according to the store guy at Guitar Guitar, Aguilar are probably going to release more pedals pretty soon. I'm hoping for a nasty overdrive/extreme Tone Hammer type thing. I won't be holding my breath though...
What, like this?
2. Depends on the amp. Not all amps will bridge into 4 ohms, in fact most I recall checking only bridged at 8. In any case its not something you can work out by looking at the stereo ratings.
3. If the neck was actually 1/16th scale that would result in a scale length of between two and three inches! edit- the whole double bass size thing is a bit misleading. My 4/4 bass is not 25% bigger than a 3/4 bass, nor are the 1/4 scale instruments actually 25% of the size as a normal one. It seems more like marketing than anything else to me- 1/8 or 1/16 scale sounds more attractive to parents looking for an instrument for their kids than one "a bit smaller than usual".
4. The stock tuning on this is actually EADGDG (link) but it fails IMO as it only has a bridge pickup for the fretless strings. Not the fretless sound I like. YMMV.
5. IME with smaller DBs (I helped out at a kids orchestra who had some 1/8 (I think, could have been 1/4) basses) its mainly a smaller body- the strings and neck aren't scaled to 1/8 or whatever. They're smaller than usual but not to the extent that the body is.
6. Does it need to be a pedal? You can pick up a hand held tuner for £10-15.
7. That's cool- looks like a neat piece of modern art on the diffusor side.
8. Oooh nifty. I quite like that.
9. Just sold Neil some strings- very quick payment and no problems at all. Cheers Kyle
10. FWIW double bass solos meant to be played in solo tuning (a full step up) are written as if it was in standard tuning, so there is precedent.
11.
Phew so that why I had a sore arse the next day. I though it was Ewan's overzealous spooning.
I wish I could make this- always had a soft spot for alpacas Unfortunately not feasible for a variety of reasons. Maybe next time
12.
I love the almost complete control I have over fast runs, tone, attack, pinch harmonic accents, and most of all damping. I can't really see me going back to fingers.
I find almost the opposite. Ain't music great? edited to add- also part of the reason I suck so much at guitar.
13.
Is there ever a point you don't feel you need lessons?
No. There's always something new to bring to the table.
Anyone else ever feel that despite their playing being as good as it needs to be for what they play, they still want lessons to improve beyond their needs?
Yes. I want to be as good as I can be, for my own satisfaction if nothing else.
14. There's a Shuker build here which is apparently getting a white P5 pickup made by EMG.
15. I stand corrected!
16. Absolutely right IMHO.^
17. OK, a few bits and bobs currently taking up space at VK towers. They say a picture tells a thousand words, so here we go... Item 1- Ashdown dual footswitch, latching. 1/4" TRS connector, nice long cable, chunky metal construction. I bought this from Ou7shined on here not long ago, but it turns out I need a momentary switch instead. Looking for what I paid which is £15 posted. ***FOOTSWITCH SOLD*** Item 2- Set of Rotosound Swing Bass, long scale, standard gauge (45-65-80-105), brand new. These were a gift but they're not my brand, they're not my gauge and I rarely play my 4 string anyway. Selling for £14-17+postage elsewhere, you can have these for £12 shipped. ***STRINGS SOLD*** Item 3- Pinnacle Studio 500 PCI- this was bought a while ago but there's no longer a desktop in our house to put it in. This is brand new, the cellophane wrapping is still on it. Includes PCI firewire card for linking to camcorders or audio interfaces and Pinnacle Studio editing software. Not really sure what to ask for this; Google tells me its still selling for $70-100; let's say £30 posted for now. Item 4- M-Audio Audiophile 2496- Good quality PCI soundcard, with stereo, MIDI and S/PDIF I/O. More specs here. The desktop this was part of has now been passed on to my stepdad (who chews through computers at a rate of knots, somehow) so I currently have no use for it. Includes the breakout cable with the MIDI and digital ports, and I think I have the original box somewhere. Not desperate to sell this as I do plan to get another desktop at some point; I'll put this up at £40 posted for the time being. The only trade I'm really looking for is a momentary footswitch (preferably a dual one) to replace the Ashdown- a Boss FS-6 would be ideal. If you have anything else feel free to try me. Payment by bank transfer preferred but open to negotiation. You can check out my BC feedback here. Thanks for looking. Kyle
18. Yeah, that's a Milestone III, just like mine AFAIK the I is a J copy, the II is a P and the III is a hybrid of both.
19.
The amount of times I hear other bassists say they just can't play my basses because the action is too low... I play with a really light touch though so I don't get fret buzz, but give it to anyone else and it sounds bloody horrible.
Likewise. It lets me get a proper clank when needed just by changing my plucking angle slightly.
20. D'oh! I should have thought that through more, especially since I read that link last time you posted it!
