  3. Yeah this is the 2.0 version, the first one was quite a different beast altogether. I assume the bars were added later on. Don't see many of these about!
  4. Hi, no, it’s 34’
  5. Hi, around 4,3 kgs
  6. As you'll probably know, most of the wooden necked [with internal graphite rods] Status basses were cheaper bolt on instruments with the small composite square at the bottom of the neck. This one is a very rare through neck model (which was an option in 1994). You can see how the wood through-neck build was identically constructed to the graphite through-necks on the Empathy during the same period, with a rock maple stepped design neck set into the walnut tone block, and the mahogany wings added to the sides, with a book-matched exotic wood top cap. The bass has obviously lived a life since the mid-1990s and there is some stable lacquer peel to the back, but no deep buckle rash. There's also a very small area where a players thumb-tip has worn through the top veneer when they've repeatedly perched their thumb on the top of the neck pickup. It's not perfect, but it's obviously been loved and played hard & often. The original pickup covers would have been the red branded "Hyperactive" ones, so the other "Status" branded pickup may be a replacement unit or just a replacement cover. Either way, both work just fine. Sound: This bass does the Status snap and howl very well indeed. It has massive punch and tone is warmed by the walnut tone block. It's only a 9V preamp, but it has massive punch. Controls are Volume, Blend, Treble and Bass. There is also a 'bright switch' circuit controlled by a micro-switch. The 24-fret neck is utterly lovely. Fret work is excellent as you'd expect and the gloss finish has gently gone slightly satin over time. It's a joy to play. The bass has had a thorough clean and service since being picked up, and the truss rod has been tightened a small amount to reduce the relief. Action is low and very fast as you'd expect and it's been strung with a new set of Elixir 40-95's. The preamp battery has also been changed. This bass is ready to blast! Comes complete with a generic non-Status hard case. Payment via Direct Bank Transfer or cash only. Buyer to collect from DE7 in Derbyshire, or will meet halfway up to a reasonable distance.
  7. Most had already seen this in the for sale section and have already expressed its cool factor, this thread was about it's tone. So, sir... I have to conclude... it is in fact YOU that has missed the point. 20 lashes...
  8. The only Jazz bass you’ll ever need……if I didn’t already have one, I’d snap this up, the Mexican roadworn series are simply awesome instruments, GLWTS. 👍
  9. Took this in a part exchange for my old p bass recently but it hasn’t been getting any use. 10. I think all the pedants are missing the point here...........Its s fricking Lego Bass, I mean....how awesome is that??
  11. All those pedals could make a piece of string tied to a broom sound decent! The question is, how does it sound acoustically and going direct?
  12. Hi what year and weight is this bass thanks
  13. Bill leaving no room for the haggle
  14. Only five more to go. This is the tune 'Maria' from the Dave Grusin 'West Side Story' recording - I love the transition from ballad to swing but watch the tempos as they are clearly directed in the studio by someone conducting. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/maria-dave-grusin/
  15. The BBC mentioned that several members of the band were found 'accommodated in a cottage in Devon being paid low salaries'. On two counts they're doing a whole lot better than me and my band for most of the 80's 🤔
  16. If filing is needed - I have done it before, not an enjoyable job, but takes a couple minutes and tries. And I had to file a brand new EMG, not a £16 one, so I had very sweaty hands... 😁
  17. Just a slight bump, I really don't want to start advertising this on ebay/reverb 😅 Happy to answer any questions of course.
  18. There was a genuine reason for him being late in the form of a road closure. He did phone the band leader when he knew about the delay. He toured a few years ago with a band that had a minor hit in the 1960s, and currently gigs regularly as a singer/guitarist with backing tracks. The BL had made contact with him via Facebook. My impression of him was that he talked a good game!
  19. Then that must be definitely lighter than my 8.4lb/3.8kg one. Mine is the blue colour variation of this same bass on this very page, and the clear difference is the ash VS alder body.
  20. That really is quirky but good quirky for me. I’m not the biggest fan of that particular headless bridge and retainer (quite fiddly) but certainly functional. I really like the body contouring - organic and pebble-like. This looks passive - do you know if they’re single coil or humbuckers? Also, is it possible to achieve a low action?
  21. If I'd ever get a new bass just for the purpose of tinkering, I'd still go HB! My current tinker bass is the Ibanez Talman TMB30 shortie, that was like £170 back when I got it. I think it's £200-ish nowdays. And I had some quality issues with it, like a seriously bent tuner, but I did not mind as I planned to put on black schallers from the 1st moment 😁 I think the HB out of box quality is higher at this point than even a similarly priced Ibanez.

  23. If no one used social media, this couldn't happend and quite frankly the world would be a far better place for so many many reasons. In principle, so many human inventions are originally designed for good and moral reasons, however, inevitably, we as humans coat that good intention in a thick, indelible layer or evil tar that can never be removed once it infiltrates the good.
  24. In my opinion the 1000MA is a very overlooked and underrated bass. It is a bit lighter than all the 414/424 basses, it features a better bridge and I like reverse pickup configuration. The red inlays are a matter of taste but the overall body shaping looks so great... a very handy bass with a really good tone. I love them.
