Mike1962 started following Gut-a-like on an NS CR4M
-
Hi, Am I missing something here? I've just listened to an NS WAV with gut-a-like on it, and it sounded far more realistic than pretty much any WAV I've listened to. But would they work on a CR4M? Wouldn't there be an issue with the magnetic pick ups not picking up none metallic strings?

Ovation Magnum I or II. Love or hate it body shape, unique pickups, as used by Jah Wobble.

Funnily enough Bass Direct now have a used Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor 5 in stock.

The delta metal fretless neck thru as well (rather than the current ‘money saving’ bolt ons). I was at the bass centre in Wapping many moons ago and had one in my hands but instead bought a Warwick, which, while not a bad bass, is not a Vigier. I do regret not buying it and now almost impossible to find.

Misdee started following Roxy Music. So underrated
-
Roxy Music underrated? You must be joking! I cannot think of many bands who have been so lionised by the media in the years since their heyday. "Serious" music critics and commentators fawn over Roxy at every opportunity. They've become a lynchpin in the narrative that rewrites music history from what actually happened to what certain people like to believe happened. They were an important band at the time, but not as important as some folks would have us believe. I remember the 1970's and they were a cult band with a ardent following, as well as having mainstream chart success. However, their status as saviours of flamboyant music in an age of drab conformity is largely a more recent invention. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Roxy fan going back to those days. My favourite era was the late '70's/early'80's. Alan Spenner and Gary Tibbs were and still are role models for me as a bass player. So inspiring and always interesting. Ironically enough, I remember that iteration of Roxy music being slammed by the music press at the time as being a polyester-clad slick disco/easy listening pastiche. I thought they were great. I liked a lot of Bryan Ferry's solo work in the '80's, too. Some very tasty bass playing on those records, and that always helps.

Harryburke14 started following NBD - Squier Sonic P
-
Adjacent to these Squier Sonic P Basses, I've been playing my new Sonic Bronco almost all day today. This too feels really well built - in fact a massive step up from the Bullet series guitars I've tried and owned. It does also have some rather stabby fret ends. Still very much happy with it though. Incredible vfm.

dunno, if it's made in the same factory as other (more expensive) basses then it's quicker (and therefore cheaper) to use the same tooling for everything.

I think they will be good combination of scale lengths and playability. People often rave about 'great sounding B' on their 35" scale basses, 34" seems the sweet spot for an E, and people seem to like short scale Basses partly for playability and the warmer sound from the higher strings - so hopefully 32-35 is a winner. The 33-35 on the Ibanez EHB worked well for me sound-wise and is comfortable whereas the 34-37 on the Combustion felt a bit like sacrificing some comfort with reach, weight, overall length (and perhaps a 34" G isnt ideal, I thought it was fine though) all done mostly for that B string - the B was very good, but it comes at a cost.

It’s a 1st gen Squier Affinity so I can’t imagine it has something as fancy as a compound radius, but thank you for the heads up. 😊

I'm reasonably certain you are correct in your wiring assumptions. If not then, I assume you'll come down and fix it for me -

Gf at and creamy sounds like big muff kinda territory

Patience is key here. If it's a rosewood (or similar) fretboard then be VERY careful when removing the frets, as it splinters very easily. Heat them up with a soldering iron to let them lift themselves out of the grooves before carefully pulling them out. Get a radius block too for the smoothing/sanding after the gaps have been filled in - these come in various sizes, so check with a radius gauge first - you might need two, as some boards have a compound radius (slightly different radius closer to the nut than the bridge).
