  2. More Basses with purple sparkle/flake paint jobs.
  3. For sale is this MM style 4-conductor pickup that came out of a DiMavery MM-501 bass. Not sure who makes them but I think it's a ceramic magnet. It sounded fine in the bass but I wanted to put an AlNiCo pickup in the bass. £20 posted to UK mainland. Here are the pics:
  4. I know it's probably not a popular opinion, but IME talent is probably the least import thing. So long as you don't mess up too obviously too often you'll be fine, and besides until you are totally without ability, you'll make less mistakes as you get more experienced. The other things are much harder to improve should they be lacking. I've managed to be a lot less obnoxious as a band member than I was in the 80s and 90s but it has taken 25 years of concentrated effort to achieve a more "chill" persona and being being in bands where I haven't been responsible for almost every aspect of the organisation has most definitely helped.
  5. The problem with the Bass Dept. at Andertons (and many other stores) is that they often have nobody to set up the basses, so you end up playing on grotty strings that have been played by all sorts of little Herberts who never wash their hands before playing, and actions created by speedy mass production which leave the strings three nautical miles off the fingerboard. If I go to Andertons, I usually stick some Alun Keys in my back pocket and do a mini setup on the bass I'm trying. That way I can at least feel if it's something like what I'm looking for. Obviously a bass is never going to sound how you want/expect until you get your favourite strings on it and get it set up to your own preferences, but I'm sure they don't mind carefully done small adjustments that make the bass more playable and therefore more saleable even if you don't end up buying it.
  6. @GBH I can confirm they are indeed 8 ohm each
  7. Here we have my DBX DriveRack PX professional loudspeaker management processor with matching DBX reference microphone for sale. I am the second owner, and this has lived in a flightcase all its life alongside my mixing console. Condition is used, although the reference mic was new this year (2025) has never been used in anger. A great tool for those of us who mix live sound from stage side whilst playing. I’m only selling as I have now upgraded my bass bins to a matching pair to my tops so will be using the internal crossovers to cut down on the weight of gear I shlep to gigs. Because I am inherently lazy, I asked ChatGPT to describe the functionality and this is what it came up with, which sounds accurate to me based on my experience. “The DBX DriveRack PX is a professional loudspeaker management system that optimises live sound systems. It combines automatic room tuning, crossover control, EQ, dynamics, and feedback suppression in one rack-mount unit. Using the included DBXRTA-M measurement microphone, you can run auto-EQ and real-time analysis to tailor your speakers and subs for smooth, balanced frequency response in any venue. Other key features include configurable crossovers, delay alignment, compression/limiting, and feedback elimination, making it ideal for PA systems, bands, DJs, and event sound setups.” I’m looking for £300 for the DriveRack and reference mic, or £250 for the DriveRack and £50 for the microphone. Collection from Killingworth Newcastle upon Tyne, or delivery at the buyers cost and risk. Any questions, please ask!
  8. Here is a collection of Kalium strings. I stocked up on these years ago when I was using them on all of my instruments but I've now moved onto Elixirs. Without bringing up recent controversies, these were bought before Kalium (formerly Circle K's) quality control seemed to nose-dive. I have two full sets of balanced tension strings in Hybrid (proprietary alloy... brighter than nickel, smoother than steel) and 6 steel singles: Hybrid set: 102-76-57-41 Hybrid set: 106-79-59-43 Steel singles: 98 x2, 73 x2, 55 x2 + 1 Single Elixir Nanoweb Nickel .135 B string. All in for £40 £30 £20 posted. Thanks for looking!
  9. During one summer in my university years (sometime in the late '90s) I thought I might switch from my usual pub work to do something else. I applied for, and was offered a job as a charity collecter - or what these days would be termed a chugger. Each day was a different pitch and a different charity. The deal was that for each pound collected, I kept 80p. another 10p (at least this is what I was told - it could have been more) went to the company organising us, and the last 10% to the actual charity (although how much of that actually ended up paying the salaries of staff at these charities and how much went to the intended recipients is another matter). I lasted two days - even as a money hungry 19 year old I could tell the whole thing was rotten. It was essentially high pressure sales, but with a bigger commission and no basic rate. That soured the whole meaning of charity for me for a good few years. Of course, perhaps, things are better now and not all operators are perhaps so cynical, but it is as you say, a business. As a musician, our function band has done one or two charity gigs. We made sure we got petrol money and a meal, and it was a better use of a Saturday night than sitting in front of the television, but the 'exposure' never lead to any gigs.
  10. Something Fishy about all those basses...
  11. Swamp Ash Prototype. This is the one I thought I wouldn’t sell! It is a 2001 Electric bass with Swamp Ash body and Maple/Rosewood neck with bird inlays. So here is the special bit. When I saw it for sale at Absolute Music I thought there was something unusual about the serial number. I contacted the support team at Stevensville and here is the story. When Mr Smith has an idea for a new guitar model he keeps either the prototype or one of the production models and keeps them in the factory music room. The design for the EB4 had been settled and was in production but he wanted to try a Swamp Ash body, this is the prototype. It was not initially issued a serial number and only when a smart broker convinced PRS to sell some of the guitars in that room that this one made the cut. At that point it was issued the serial number 150. This is easily established by contacting the Support center at the factory. I have one of the production Swamp Ash models which was the first EB 4 I bought. This model is pretty much NOS and is mint. The only thing apart from cleaning and periodic playing is fitting GHS flatwound 105 strings which IMHO brings out the true tone of the SwampAsh body. I really dont like the idea of sending it so would prefer a meet up or collection and trial first hand. It really is special instrument and worth every penny of £1500 especially safe in the knowledge that Mr Smith himself thought it good enough to keep.
  12. Maybe I don't know, I don't use them. But its worth trying to rule out what is causing the issue. Does the AH have an external power supply or a proper plug?
  13. Does the pickup come with an output transformer as circa 250 Ohms will be a challenge to use with traditional amps?

  15. Thanks, Mokl. I was running two as a vertical stack – best live sound I've ever had!
  16. The DM610 is a large bookshelf/standmount speaker from renowned hi-fi brand B&W, featuring a well-braced 30-litre sealed cabinet with 8-inch mid-bass driver. The larger driver and extra cabinet space create a much better low end range than from most similar speakers. This model allows for either bi-wiring or bi-amplification. These speakers present clean tight bass response, surprisingly clear mids for such a large driver and the pleasant highs that the well-designed B&W tweeter at that time was famous for. They can be driven quite loud, enough for the physical effect of the bass to be felt without audible distortion or a sense of sound compression. Both speakers are in Very Good condition, especially for their vintage. All-original, complete with full grilles (one of which has a small hole, shown in the final photo). Only £125. Collection from Bournemouth BH6 preferred. Here comes the science bit… Type: 2-way closed, shelf speaker Colour: Ash black veneer Dimensions: 490 x 236 x 303 mm (H x W x D) Weight: 7.8 kg Recommended amplifier power: 30-150 W Frequency response: 70 - 20,000 Hz (±2 dB) Crossover: 2500 Impedance: 4 Ohm
  17. I was referring to the positioning. Ultimately any passive circuit unless you are using rick-o-sound the tones affect the other pickup. Gibsons are far worse because the volume affects the other pickup too!
  18. Oh, I so need those! Our speaker stands get yellow/black hazard tape stuck on the front-most leg for some gigs.
  19. You get those AJD lit up speaker stands, looks like that: https://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/ADJ-Colour-Stand-LED-Speaker-Stand-With-LED-Legs/27VU
  20. Today
  21. Can you mark it as sold then by editing the title and adding the word sold to the end?
  22. Fantastic review, thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed overview, helped me make my mind up on the amp!
  23. Hello! I am interested in this bass! Still available? Thank you in advance! If you want I give you my mail and we talk there! A greeting, Denis L.P.
  24. It’s a hand made artisan product. That’s probably a fair price. Well done got following through on something like this and doing what you. Best of luck with it!
