Latest one. Really looking forward to try this out with other IE pedals and see how they all interact.

Choose a 5 string bass for £500 (ish)

Actually I really, really like headless basses. I'd shortlisted the Cort Space against the new Sire M6. I even posted a thread on BC appealing for comments for anyone who'd played both but no joy. -

I'd say Second hand Ibby SR305 and save some cash... but 16.5mm - Son has an SR306. -

Many thanks for your comments, especially your observations on the Z7. I was about to pull the trigger on a secondhand 5 advertised near where I live when someone else pointed out they were exceptionally heavy. That in itself isn't too much for a deal breaker for me because I always play sitting down but I've gotten myself mighty frustrated over the years with short horned basses sliding of my knee! Perhaps an Ibanez BTB might do it for me - it's just locating one in budget that hasn't been hammered or isn't one of the earlier ones. Thanks also for the heads up on Jakesters Yammy. I replied to him separately on that 👍 -

Would a Digitech Whammy work? Essentially the "dive bomb" setting, which you can control with the expression pedal.

I just made something to stick on my pedal board next to the pedal, as there's no way I'm ever going to remember all the extra control assignments. I figured it might come in handy for other people, so here it is.

So much better than the purple one.

For Sale: my beloved Phil Jones Suitcase Compact and it's matched extension cab (Compact 4). Comes with custom Roqsolid covers I've tried to justify keeping this combo and the extension cab for far too long. I just don't need it anymore 😔 (lack of gigs, IEMs, etc). Amp puts out 300 watts at 8ohms and 500 at 4 (with extension cab attached). Condition is good. It's been rarely gigged. Home use, studio and practice room mainly. There are a couple of dings in the Tolex and a scratch / chip on the handle of the extension cab. I've tried to photograph these as clearly as I can. Classic clean Phil Jones sound. Jazz guitarist friend absolutely loves this amp. Two channels. I've utilised these both with two pickups on my upright. Handy if you use two basses on the same gig. Mute switches on both channels. Would prefer not to ship as it would be very expensive. Thanks for looking!! Andy

That looks like a nice Spector ruined by art students.

It's only lightly aged apparently, not unlike myself. Anyway, I'm gonna get me one asap. That's the problem with the NAMM show, there's lots of new stuff on show but it's usually at least six months until you can actually get your hands on it.

I like Yammies. I own five (2 RBX, 3 older BB). All five string. I've deliberated long and hard on a Broad Bass. I even journeyed the 600 mile round trip to Yamaha in London a couple of years ago to try out a 435 (which they said was in stock but when I got there it wasn't). I came away with a TRBX605 which I wanted to get on with but couldn't so moved it on six months later. The 735 puzzles me. On line reviews (Lobster, Johnny Dibble) praise the build quality but otherwise don't appear to give it too much credit. The 435 seems to attract more accolade. Doesn't seem to be much in the secondhand price between a Broadbass 435 and a 735, much the same story with the TRBX 505 and the 605. Still pondering 🤔 -

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
msb replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Most of my 34 in basses have TI flats except for a Ray I keep fresh round Slinkies on , and an old Pbass with ancient rounds. Most short scales have LaBella flats , my Longhorn still has the factory rounds. It was also gigged a lot. They still intonate , and it thumps. I have some short scale Gibson rounds if I wish to change anything. They came on my DC LP Jr and I really liked them , bought several packs , the Jr has LaBellas at the moment , might return the rounds on that. I find I can leave flats on for years before I have any urge to change them. I’m mostly aiming for a classic old school thump. They deliver that. -

I'm maybe missing something, but this seems to essentially be a multifx with pretty limited fx capability? Other than the DI out, why go for something like this rather than one of the very capable mid-range multifxs available in the same price bracket?

I bought this bass about a year ago on a bit of an impulse and wondered if anyone knows a bit more about them or has had one. From a bit of googling I think the model is Fender Japan TNB 110 SPL and whilst a Precision body shape, is clearly a bit different with the pick up layout, hollow body f hole and telecaster style headstock. Think the TNB means Thinline Bass and presume SPL means Special, not sure about the 110... There are a couple of short threads on them here and elsewhere but not much info and I suspect a not often seen bass ?.

No it's not. It's also "a bold step forward in tone, reliability, and performance". Are the Chinese built ones unreliable and do they sound bad then? I've only just bought one. 😬 I think it's good that they are being manufactured in the UK, but not clear on if this is replacing the Chinese ones or is just an option if you prefer to support UK manufacture.

Does Your Covers Band Change Songs? What Changes and Why?
tauzero replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
One song that regularly gets misplayed is Bad Moon Rising. It's not in either band's setlist but I've done it previously, and encounter it fairly regularly at open mic nights. The first and second choruses only go round once, the final one goes round twice (or more, depending on how it's ended) but a lot of the time people do the first and second choruses as double length ones.
