  2. Just spotted this, if anyone’s in the market: https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/sandberg-california-ii-vs4-greenline-30-highgloss-tobacco-sunburst-49347/ I’m very happy with my shell pink one - they really are terrific basses - but I think I might have preferred a sunburst. Ah well!
  3. I just had a quick play with the EHX Bass Mono Synth but there wasn't really a slowing down effect in there. Lots of menacing/sci-fi sounds possible once you get an expression pedal involved... should the need ever arise.
  4. Yeah - it may be a language / translation thing but it felt weird to me that a product like this wouldn't have a ground lift. As you say - it mentions an "amp ground lift" but I had always understood that the ground lift function on a DI disconnects one of the pins on the XLR, whereas "amp ground lift" suggests it's doing something to the jack out instead. Sorry for derailing the thread!
  5. Also, looks like Trickfish are doing pickups

  7. Given the nature of the Bird... I'd prefer collection/Delivery but well packaged and very insured postage is possible. This one has been my gateway drug, and before i knew it i've bought myself an old single pickup model. It's in mint condition, and comes with a great padded gigbag. Pretty light at 3.8 kg, and personally I haven't had an issue with neck dive as these sometimes suffer from. These are proper neck-through models like the originals. As always please hit me up with questions/photo requests! .

  8. If I hadn’t just bought the API comp I’d have had the UT&T.
  9. I’ve always wanted one of these! Unfortunately having a grandmother and minitaur , means that I’ll have to pass . Have a bump anyway ! GLWTS
  10. The Masterbuilt Metroline series is a conundrum for me. It's Warwicks master builders, and they are some of the best in the world so I get the price point. But when the price of the Warwick shop exceeds the price of Rogers NY shop, but you get a "Metroline" stamp on it, as if to say "Well it's not a real NY Sadowsky", it just feels weird. It's almost a disservice having the Sadowsky name attached for all parties involved.
  11. Darkglass Anagram £750 Delivered in UK. Note that this has a small ding on the LHS which is reflected in the asking price. Comes with supplied case and power supply as well as a KnK shield which cost me a total of £70 to have delivered from Poland. https://www.darkglass.com/en-gb/products/anagram https://www.knkshields.com/products/anagram Apart from the ding it is in excellent condition. Purchased from guitarguitar in August 2025. With great irony it received the ding while I was fitting the protective shield. I was moving it on my desk and clipped the edge of my Apple Studio Display cracking the monitor's screen in the process. Thankfully I have Applecare+ or that would have been a very expensive repair. I've really enjoyed playing through the Anagram, I've owned all flavours of Helix and Quad Cortex and the tones from the Anagram were the best of the lot. Selling as I don't really have a use for it. I like to stick to a simple preamp/compressor board but do love trying out new kit. Potential buyers are welcome to demo in Glasgow.

  12. My previous teacher would not teach pop songs as she said "they are hard to play because they're so badly written" - she was a graduate of the Royal College of Music though, and friends with Alfred Brendel, so that's perhaps understandable. In contrast my current teacher is a professional jazz pianist and he's opened up so much to me - working out what you need to play in a piece, without playing all the notes. Chord substitutions, and missing out the less important notes in a chord etc. Improvising a left hand part and changing that depending on whether there is a bass player. All very useful for playing in a band, but perhaps not recommended for ABRSM exams!
  13. £8k+ for what it is seems excessive to say the least. It makes Fodera, Spector USA, Valenti and F Bass look like bargains in comparison. If you look at European builders like Sei, Overwater, Brooks, Shuker etc, you're paying a heap of extra money for one of Roger's finest. Good work if you can get it and all the best to him but pound for pound, I just don't get it.
  14. Thats quite interesting. It explains why im boosting the mids a lot in my amp, the tonepump has quite a mid scoop. Based on the audio samples in this video, the tonepump seems more aggressive and overall, probably the better choice for me but probably not for anyone playing less aggressive music.
  15. Hadrien Féraud who simply replaced Anthony Jackson with Hiromi is a hell of a player, even if, sometimes, he plays too much And as mentioned by Anti, Kinga Głyk is certainly the most promising bassist around (she is Polish, by the way). Charles Berthoud is the best YouTuber around for sure, but even if I admire his playing, his records are really meh, I mean he's a talented player and arranger, but on the poor side when it comes to composition. Concerning the basses, Harley Benton is proposing excellent stuff at super low prices. Amp wise, we entered the fully digital era ultra lightweight items. Everything software based (modelling or sampling) is simply amazing these days. And, sadly a lot of companies have gone away in 15 years and, now, you can't afford a Wal anymore...
  16. Actually, $6K isn't too bad for a US custom shop bass. I'll stick with my original 1976/1977 SB-1 (signed by Stuart Spector) though...... keep my wallet closed!

  18. I was at a work party in a pub last night, and one of the barmen did something that annoys me: he was pouring someone else's order, while asking me what I want at the same time. So he's not paying attention to the pint he's pouring, and while I tell him my order then, I have to repeat it when he's actually ready to pour it. So taking my order when he wasn't ready to pour it was totally pointless. It annoys me when people try to multitask for no good reason: multitasking is overrated.
  19. I know this isn't probably news to anyone, but for people in a similar position to me (i.e. can read music and play to roughly grade 3 but pretty much self taught) I'd highly recommend getting some lessons with a decent tutor. I've learnt more in the last 2x 30min lessons than in the last 5 years! It isn't so much just playing the grade pieces, it's stuff like: How to sit, wrist position, finger positions (not using my thumb on black keys!), how to use the sustain pedal properly (and how to properly use the middle pedal), proper scale technique, how to spot scale structures and what other scales work with them, some useful rhythm stuff (tapping out the notes for each hand on each leg), and some reading things - I'd been misreading ties as slurs. etc. I guess all that stuff could possibly be found in online videos and books, but having it tailored to you is so much more efficient and effective. (I'm actually finding perfecting the grade pieces a bit tedious - playing The Muppet Theme for the 100th time it starts gets a bit annoying!)
  20. Several reasons, I like to try make stuff, abelit badly in some cases 🙂 I don't have a midi cable, but i do have some vintage DIN/midi plugs in a box, a barrel jack socket and a bit shielded pair ... [ in a previous life, and with no previous knowledge, tools or internet, I reclaimed and rewired 120pin EDAC cables into interlinks for my mobile studio, from that I learned that one does not pick up a soldering iron and simply walk into mordor] Sauron's Multiplug Yeah, I could just buy the things pre-made from ebay, but where is the fun in that? And when I have f**ked it all up, and failed, but learned a few things then I will go to fleabay 🙂
  21. Selling my trusted GK 410 cab which has been in my possession for the last 7 years or so. Powerful, punchy, and light weight with the neodymium magnets. Comes with amp cover. Open to sensible offers, looking to shift this before i move house in March. Collection from SW20 preferred.
  22. There is a modest , underrated and highly talented bass maestro who is revered and lauded on Basschat ..Danny Sapko. Worth checking out . Davie 504 is better entertainment though imho ..” check mate ! “ Lots of headless basses with varying designs and quality control issues ( cort space 5 , Ibanez EHB etc )

  24. Reclusiarch Aurelius on SoundCloud seems to be based in Krasnodar in Russia though, not Gloucestershire! No, I am not interested in joining this band, I was scrolling through JMB looking for dep opportunities (I am such a tart). Consequently it doesn’t matter directly to me, but there is a BC tradition of highlighting (for entertainment purposes) delusional or wildly unrealistic band ads. It will matter to someone though, when they sign up to goodness-knows-what in the hope of a shortcut to fame and fortune. I do hope the site rules allow us to discuss things that don’t even matter, otherwise pages of discussion on fret position markers would have to be deleted.
