  2. You could get away with loose screws for most of our gear as the current load is generally small. With a high current load a loose connection creates a higher resistance which can lead to overheating!
  3. A few years back I was doing some home demo recordings here; we had a couple of amps set up in a spare room and stuck Shure SM58 (vocal) microphones in front of the each cab and a Rode vocal mic up away from the amp to pick up room ambience. Sounded fine. Guitarist put a photo up somewhere and got an absolute deluge of comments about how stupid we were, that we didn't know what we were doing and how we should have used <insert assorted microphone types here>. The responses just reflect the world we live in, the results were more than acceptable (we just dialled in the tone we wanted off the amps), the SM58 was the only suitable microphone I had (I used to use it rehearsal spaces rather than catching herpes off the studio mics). Ultimately, any nuances in tone/frequency shift (etc) off the SM58 would be lost once everything else was added (drums, bass, more guitar). Plus, it was a home recording, not Abbey Road. People are idiots.
  4. Thanks, good idea. I know the sound direct from the DI is pleasing enough having tested it a few times at home, but I haven't tried seeing how it varies when I mess about with the seal.
  5. In a sense, every env filter is based on the Mutron. But the Meatball is a different circuit altogether. It’s not a ‘copy’ like the Behringer. Same goes for the 3leaf Chromatron. It takes inspiration from the Meatball but it’s a different design.
  6. It can, if a part of the signal touches earthing you’ll get a buzz or hum
  7. Like that shielding …
  8. Often the problem is only when it is all screwed together because things touch and the situation is not obvious when disassembled - that might be why your luthiers missed it I found a Jack socket was rubbing on the shielding - I put clear tape over the foil and the problem went away
  9. Today
  10. It’s easier to get eBay to collect tax for them on people selling second hand goods bought from taxed-income than go after the very rich. selling 1000 of new stuff in a year is a legitimate target, but only when you also tax wealthy people
  11. May I? - Bing Crosby
  12. Best: - 2012 MIJ Fender Jaguar bass (ok, I swapped the pickups for Fender CS 60s, but it sounds great). - 2024 Epiphone Jack Casady bass. Although a longtime Jack and hollowbody fan, I avoided this bass due to my 'made in China' bias, but after trying one that was well set up I took the plunge and don't regret it. - Fender Super Bassman. Haven't band-tested it yet, but the 'vintage' channel sounds amazing, and loud. Worst: - Orange OBC 115 cab. The sound is not my thing and farts out way too early. - Accugroove 'El Whappo' 15/12/6 cab. Sounds good at lower volume but can't hold it together in a big room. - Orange AD200. Sounded great at first but then developed problems and it's been back to the shop twice now.
  13. When you say the original maker, do you mean of the Mu-Tron III that Lovetone based the Meatball on?
  14. Bartolini BH2s. Low End Lobster recommended Aguilar DCBs to replace them - I have an EHB1265MS with the Aguilars in, but the pickup swap was before I bought it so I never got to do a comparison.

  16. I'm trying to work out if you're trying to be funny or not. 🤔 I am looking for an overdrive that will sound good to me when I am wearing my IEMs and wanted to know what overdrive pedals other IEM users were using
  17. Now priced at £325 - I have to go to the Post Office every day this week so discounting the trip to save me an extra journey later! ... I've been collecting and pedal-testing solidly since COVID but a lot's been happening this year and, as my priorities are changing, it's time to start letting some of these pedals go, including those that six months ago it would have been unthinkable selling. I recently listed a couple of Doom 2s, one in Cosmic finish and a high gain unit in Jade Sparkle. This time I've got a Bronze Age unit on the block from the March 2025 edition of 111 for £360. The unit is the standard gain model and is basically new in box. The price includes Royal Mail Special Delivery UK postage. I'm not really looking for trades at this point but there are a handful of pedals I'm curious about: COG T-70 v2; Hamstead Subspace GE, and Chase Bliss Spectre.
  18. This is HMRC's sudden obsession with "side hustles", as they want to scrape a bit more income from the average person on the street/Clapham omnibus rather than Reeves introduce a wealth tax or bring CGT in line with income tax or do anything significant to get more money from the very rich.
  19. Maggie May - Rod Stewart
  20. I would absolutely endorse having a go yourself. You can get a decent finish with rattle cans (I started with cans from Northwest Guitars before getting spray guns etc) and sprayed in the garden with the body screwed to a bit of wood as a painting stick tucked under my arm! Admittedly it is more challenging this time of year with the weather 😂. You could always knock up a bit of a backdrop out of some cardboard boxes and spray in the open door of a garage or a shed but definitely get respirator that can deal with Volatile Organic Compounds off eBay or Amazon. Decent protection is cheaper than you think and the VOCs will make you feel like crap if you don’t. Make sure you get either nitro or 1k paint/finish such as polyurethane as 2k stuff(it has a separate hardener) has isocyanates which is as nasty as it sounds and needs decent extraction and a positive pressure respirator to be safe. Body prep is everything and the more time you spend on that such as sanding, grain filling, sealing before you start painting will reap absolute dividends and a better finish I personally find nitro finishes more forgiving than poly as they flash off and dry quicker which is a plus if you are spraying in the open as it means less sanding of dust nibs, dead flies etc 😫. If you do use nitro, it really needs to cure for a couple of weeks after the final coat before you can do the final sand and polish and it can remain quite soft during that time which I learned after leaving what I thought was a cured body on a soft patterned towel. It left the imprint of the towel material in the finish🤬 You can also get some shrink back into pores if you haven’t put enough coats on or sealed the wood adequately. Poly is more durable, needs less coats and cure time but takes longer to dry between sprays and also doesn’t melt into the previous layer in the same way nitro does. I also found that rattle can poly doesn’t go on as well as nitro and I got better results with wipe on poly(make it yourself by thinning normal poly rather than buy it) than spraying it. Practice on a scrap bit of wood first to get the hang of the spraying and it’s is better to spray more thin coats spaced out than fewer thick ones. Hopefully @slowTwitch, that has given you some options and I’m sure whichever route you choose, be it car sprayer, luthier or have a go yourself, you will get the result you want.
  21. My moonlight blue P34. Did have a 735a and was after a P35 but as is the way of things, I ended up with the 4 string. No complaints. Great bass! 8
  22. Pedal Board A the FTT EQ is excellent if certainly more than what I probably require
