For sale. DiMarzio DP307 Relentless PJ Pickup Pair Gloss Black Metal. As new. Still in unopened box. DiMarzio pickups embody equal parts tradition, innovation and invention, not only in their individual design but also in the way they complement one another. The Relentless PJ set delivers a thunder-and-lightning example of these idealized combinations, pairing a Relentless J™ bridge pickup with Relentless P™ pickups. The inspiring new Relentless™ pickups combine ceramic (Relentless P) and Neodymium magnets (Relentless J), producing a better balance and up to 70 percent more output than traditional passive pickups. And best of all, these titans of teeth-rattling tone are dead quiet. Expanded mid-range punch, snappy highs and precise lows are hallmarks of the Relentless J™, while the Relentless P™ pickups sound simply massive, offering impressive output levels, beefy lows, growling midrange and crispy highs that sing with superior string definition. All Relentless™ pickups are fully potted and include our new comfort-sculpted metal covers with foil-shielded cables, along with a broad magnetic field. There are no limitations here, just high-powered tone. Relentless™ pickups will breathe new life into any bass, increase playability, and work well for any style of music from Motown to metal. Website is terrible and it doesn't look auspicious for bass given the GUITAR! (and bass) show promotion.

When this thread was new I was a current Barefaced user but now I'm one of these modern weirdos who doesn't have any backline most of the time. I've had 2x midgets, a compact, and 2x FR800s, all of which are exceptional and the fr800s were easily the best cabs I've ever used. If I need stage volume these days, which used to be pretty much never then I use a QSC k12.2. However both of my new bands look like they might be stage volume bands, so I am considering a big twin to amplify my quad cortex. Who knows what the future holds eh?

Thing is (and I say this from the perspective of our desired signature tone), we all know - more or less - what we want to sound like and in truth, don't we just dial that in via our amp/cab choice and/or processing? Installation of Fender '62 Vintage pickups might make the owner of a bass feel better and oh, they're definitely going to hear that perceived tonal difference, but the irony is the bass will sound pretty much the same as it did beforehand. @Hobbayne - buy a couple of cheap Chinese Strat pickups and pop 'em in. They'll sound just the same as what is in there now and what you're going to replace them with.

I did last year demoing for Darkglass which was fun. Will be there this year again both days, mostly on BassDirect stand :).

Yes I assumed you'd need the low pass side - an optional defeat switch for the tweeter might be an interesting extra. I suppose a 2.5way ideally necessitates a (switchable) extra pole on the low pass filter to smooth out the transition, and I guess that'd normally be an inductor so a bit more cost as it'd need to be low down. I built 2.5way tops with some Deltalite 10s that I deemed unsuitable for bass guitar compared to more robust drivers, it did do that 'girth' thing which bassists chase.

Incredible isn't it? Imagine paying more for a brand new vehicle that's been dented and scuffed from the factory (for example) 😊 -
What are you listening to right now?

Mondo Generator are worth seeing if you get the chance. They play a load of their own stuff plus the Kyuss songs he recorded and they're really good. Nick and the band are pretty cool as well, they hang out with the fans before and after and watch support bands from the crowd as well.

To me vintage tone is characterised by lower impedance windings and modest strength magnets giving a lower output with more middle and top end without being harsh. This gives a richer sound but you need to crank the gain more.

That brings back some memories, or fragments anyway. Never really got around to listening to any albums (maybe I shohld rectify that) but an absolute must see at any festival in the 90s

It sounds like complete open circuit to me. I suppose I could put a micrometer on the plug...
