Does anyone else take their basses to weird places for photos?
Cornwall Steve replied to GarnetDK's topic in Bass Guitars
Many thanks for replying and explaining 'things'. I apologise for not making my question clearer regarding how well the fretless G3 rated compared with similar instruments in the same class. I didn't know whether you still owned the fretless model in the photo. I simply asked how it compared based on the assumption that you would have played it avidly at some point and I was curious to know your thoughts. I too have moved from 4's to 5's but also from fretted to fretless. Personally, I'd always set my sights on a Sei which I thought I'd probably end up buying secondhand from the Bass Gallery. When I saw your Gus Fretless it stopped me in my tracks and got me thinking......🤔 I suppose ultimately I'd aspire to a Pentabuzz but could never see me locating/affording a 5 string one. Once again, thank you very much for the photos and information. Very much appreciated 🙏 -
BubbasnEvilGenius started following Installing two band active preamp and generic P bass
-
This is the first time that I have dealt with an active preamp. I bought a pre wired 2 band preamp for my jazz bass originally. But, decided to install it in my generic P bass instead. I couldn't find the right wiring diagram on Google or anywhere I looked online. I was wondering and hoping if anyone on here to help me out with my bass? You got a wiring diagram that would be amazing. This preamp has a master volume that is an 1 mega ohm audio taper pot. A bass & trouble cut there are B-50 killaohm pots, and a MN250K blender pot. I would greatly appreciate it? If anybody can help me figure out this wiring! P.S. instead of having this PB split called pickup connected. I know him two single coil pickups. I'm going to upload pictures of my preamp and the wires a little cock eyed. Any help would be truly appreciated especially if there's a wiring diagram or some other type visual along with everything. The first picture is of my pickups and the blend pot. The second picture is the bass and treble cut. Along with the brand module. I would also like to add either spdt or D PDT switches., I have a dpdt slide switch, and spdt mini toggle on off on switch. Lastly the output Jack is a mono stereo Jack. I kind of have an idea on how to connect all the wires and make it work right. Cuz the other day I had her completely together. I was testing the preamp out. Two different amps

The synth player in my band mixes all our recordings on a pair of KRK Rokit speakers which allow him to get some excellent sounding mixes and which to me seem reasonably small - although my last set of studio monitors were Tannoy Gold 10" dual-concentrics so my idea of sizes might be a bit skewed. As I said in the recent headphones thread, the most important thing about whatever speakers you choose is that you spend a serious amount of time listening to recordings you know and like through them so you get to know their strengths and weaknesses and then can use them to make objective decisions about your own recordings.

Don't lie... you're clearly breeding those mechanical spider things from War Of The Worlds and this is a baby one that accidentally got photographed in the reflection of your mirrored scratch plate. This is exactly the reason why I don’t have mirrored scratch plates.

You win the prize for spotting that first. It's a mixture pickguard and is reflecting the light fuxture!

Thank you. As I said in a previous post I don't own the fretless any more, partly because I no longer play 4-string basses (the basses I'm currently playing are all 5-string or Bass VIs) and partly because fretless doesn't suit the current musical path that I am following. It was a great instrument to play, but I struggled to get the sorts of fretless sounds I wanted out of it which was mostly Japan-era Mick Karn. All three of the other high-end fretless basses I owned at the same time - Overwater Original, Pedulla Buzz and Sei Flamboyant were much more suitable for that. Having said that it did get used at quite a few gigs and made it on to a couple of recordings that have been released. I believe the current owner has strung it with flat-wound strings which suit the bass better. I still own the two fretted Gus basses because they are the perfect instruments for me in terms of playability, sounds and looks. I also have a Gus G1 guitar. I couldn't see myself selling any of them. If I found myself needing a fretless bass in the future I'd be looking for a Pedulla Pentabuzz. -

BassAdder60 started following Trace Elliot TE 1200 compressor
-
My new TE1200 arrived yesterday and I quickly tried it and was reminded how great it sounds and easy to get good sounds out of it I’m liking the pre shape slightly scooped tone and adding a bit of low mids using the EQ sounds awesome Now I’m not sure if using the dual compressor is better Pre EQ or Post ? I think Pre sounds better and tames the low end boom nicely but curious what other uses have decided to use and why ?

We’re putting the finishing touches to our newest (9th?) album which we hope to release in the spring. The documentary that has been being produced by a Dutch filmmaker will be released in the spring too. The producer is hoping and expecting us to play several gigs to promote that. Currently I think we only have 2 gigs in the diary (in Italy) and they’re not until October. We have had zero editorial input to the documentary so we have no clue what story they’re telling. They’ve followed us for 3 or 4 years and in that time there hasn’t been any drama, so I really don’t understand their angle. The film will be followed by a double live album which was recorded a couple of years ago in Rotterdam and is being released by the film producer. Despite all this assumed exposure I am fully expecting to be as obscure and penniless in 12 months time as I am today.

Ah... I have a Schroeder 21012L. It's light but moderately bulky, and sound-wise it seems fine. Too many variables for me to even begin to get my head around working out why it sounds the way it does, but I'm forming the impression from what I've read that they're concocted by trial and error rather than designed. It's a good single-cab solution- 4 Ohm, ~1000W power handling. And it generates a lot of perceived volume- I guess it has a strong hump in the frequency response between mid-bass and lower-mid that causes it. The recently acquired PJB C8 is another wacky cab design, yet another kettle of fish entirely...

We used to use an ozone generator in a hotel I work at years ago. It sorta worked to take the tobacco hum out of a non smoking room that had been abused. Ozone would be harsh on some speaker materials, especially foam surrounds. Caution required.

It took 3 days and a poke from me to have NZPost USA depot acknowledge my parcel had arrived. Then they left off my postcode at this end when forwarding. You type your address into their widget and it spits out your postcode. I guess the AI sorting machine doesn't need no postcode no more. -
Christmas presents....What did Santa bring you?

Having worn one of my XXL T-shirts and one of my XL ones, I'm wondering if US sizing has come to the UK. The XL is loose and long on me, the XXL is like a marquee, and I am not as slender and lissom as I once was. Incidentally, I realised that the T-shirt of a cat playing bass was AI generated as there were four machine heads on the headstock, but six strings across the fretboard. -

I thought I'd add another anecdotal experience. Sold a Precision pickup(s) to a BCer in Luxembourg, to avoid customs declarations did this via another BCer in Norn Iron. Posted using 24 hour tracked on December 2nd. Delivered December 9th, a mere week later. Even Evri is quicker and more reliable than that. -
I had an old Trace 1119 combo that belonged to a touring band back in the days when smoking was still permitted in pubs, clubs and venues. That thing used to belch stale B&H fumes from the switch-on thump to the last note played. No amount of use and time improved matters. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try airing the little tyke and standing it in the sun (UV and all that) first. Really don't want to haul 8 drivers out of the box If I don't have to. Might try a bowl of vinegar in close proximity, too. That's meant to help. If the cab is stuffed or lined with porous material, none but the nuclear option will beef really effective, though.
