  1. Past hour
  2. Y'all will be pleased to hear that I've been working on some Jazz-Dub...
  3. It's either: a) all our entries are so terrible that the majority of BCers know that for the sake of their sanity they'd be wise to ignore the Compo Compo every month b) Most BCers are so busy that they can't spare 10 minutes or so to skim through the entries c) Most BCers aren't interested in any new music at all, as nobody's made anything worth listening to for at least 30 years d) Those who don't take any part just assume it's some sort of clique they're not invited to e) a combination of all those things f) something else entirely
  4. Yes, have definitely had worse gigs and played to less people! It was nice to play on a stage and have a bit of space, and the organisers were very friendly and offering us free drinks etc. That was a nice change from our last gig where we had our fee withheld until we had paid for the two pints of coke that we had had (but that’s a different story!)
  5. Hipshot Rickenbacker Replacement Bass Bridge, chromed aluminium. As new, with screws, in box. Bought new earlier this year for nearly £200.00. Decided to sell my Ricky, so this is now surplus to requirements. Far superior to stock bridge, allowing for much easier intonation, action and string spacing adjustment. Essential if you want to palm mute! Can post in the U.K. only for £10.00

  6. Likewise, but at the other end of the UK. Nothing is close to Cornwall, but research, couriers and calculated risk means I've got far more basses than fingers and toes to play them with... and that's saying something for someone from Cornwall! 😁
  7. Price drop £475, like new!
  8. Interesting to see and hear The Kooks' bass player putting some neat bass-lines down with a Hofner Club on Jools Holland's Hootenanny last night/this morning.
  9. Thank you all, that's useful input. I did suspect the PJB was more about refinement than brute power. Sounds like I might need to focus on a cheaper "small" amp - the D4 was a bit of a stretch price-wise, but if it could have done both jobs I'd have been very tempted. Anyway, the last thing I need is a gateway to another avenue of musical expenditure. I'm perfectly capable of finding them on my own!
  10. Sounds like the blend also had some sort of buffer circuit on it. What @itu says is exactly what I'd advise assuming that the volume comes before the preamp - if not then connect the pickup to the lead into the preamp that the blend was connected to.
  11. Agreed, you really have to make the best of it. All bands are going to be faced with a gig that goes south sooner or later. Just don't carry around a lot of guilt over it. It's usually not the bands fault Daryl
  12. Exactly. Always a good crowd at open-mic nights.
  13. The ZZ Top song or the Motorhead EP? 😂
  14. Yes I’m impressed with the build quality. It’s nice hunk of maple - perhaps they were a bit more selective on woods for the anniversary series.
  15. I don't notice any drug activity within the band, however I do get concerned with the amount of alcohol consumed. Daryl
  16. Hope the old problem clears up quickly...
  17. Good lord. Is this still here? It’s feckin gorgeous
  18. I've not read all of the posts, but the vast majority of them seem to be about things people do not like rather than prejudices. The definition of a prejudice is "opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience." Here's mine. Bass players have poor reading comprehension ...🫣
  19. Dave, I think this was our 4th year playing The Precinct on New Year's Eve. I think the owner is a cousin of our band leader. Another nice touch, the chef prepared meals for the band after the show. Daryl
  20. Looking at the JO5, it hasn't got a separate battery compartment so it means removing the control plate to change the battery. @kiat, what batteries are you using, and where do you get them from? And how many hours of playing do you get out of them?
  21. Like the other posters, I hope things take a turn for the better very soon. GLWTS.
  22. I’ve found that it’s the so called “normal” people who when they take stuff like coke that then become a-holes, punks/skins/bikers/metallers, whatever they’ve been taking whenever I’ve been around I’ve never seen anything like that. Even the hardened football hooligans on the punk scene seem to be able to keep themselves in line when drunk/drugged.
  23. Nice! Where you based?
  24. Well, there’ll be a cuppa, bass natter and mebbe some biscuits awaiting when you do!
