That's very kind, of you. I've got plenty of 12mm ply left which I can use. If I get it wrong I can always make another baffle. Thanks again for the very kind offer. David

I've looked at the NUX but I think I'd have the same problem as I had with the Boss Katana Go, i.e it's in the way and not easy to adjust when I plug it into a bass that's a bottom-loader.

Thanks for the comments. I probably didn't put the question in the right words. The design calls for a tubular port and as you say I'm looking to have a rectangular port, or box shape for the want of better words. the reason for the change is simply that I'd like to get the cabinet in a useable shape for a jam session this Sunday. To use a tube shape I'd need to have to wait for one to be delivered, whilst I can add the box shape using some wood that I have to hand. If its a simple matter of making the box shape with the same cross section opening and depth then that's something that is easy to do. If I get it wrong I guess I could always cut a new baffle. Thanks again for the help and advice, David

Hi guys, finally pulled trigger on a new pickup for my stingray project bass. Im going to replace everything while im at it. Went with the Aguilar AG4M. Got the diagram from the website. My noob question is that do I link all the earth's off the pot's back to the jack like in the picture? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like I've had a lucky escape, because we're it not for people sharing experiences on Basschat I would have probably placed an order myself. If the quality is still what you expect from a Jaydee, their prices are incredibly reasonable. Of all the basses I've owned, the quality of the woodworking on my custom MK was easily the most impressive. Their proprietary hardware is the business, too. Such a shame it looks like I can't have another.

The first time I really, really noticed a bass line was Pino Palladino on Julia Fordham’s “Prince of Peace”. I sound nothing like that when I play, and I’ve no desire to even play fretless, but it got me thinking.

My first Jaydee was a GA24 that I collected from John's old workshop when it was in Moseley, Birmingham. John was a lovely guy. It's such a shame that I had numerous calls to the workshop relating to my current order, where I was told information that had me set my expectations on a completion date that never materialised. Extremely frustrating, and very annoying.

Wow that really pops! The wenge is stunning but also wow.. that elm! The dark grain filler really transforms it. Are you using tinted poly or is it the light that has yellowed it a bit? Really nice. Great job 😀

One of the guitarists in my band had to wait three years for his Old Boy from Jaydee. He also got similarly strung along and it wasn't until he threatened to go to small claims court for his deposit back that they actually built it. He couldn't get through on the phone, their voicemail is constantly full and they weren't responding to his emails for months after initially quoting an 18 month build time at the time of order. He eventually got it just before Christmas and it is a lovely guitar, but they took the p*ss. Apparently after they've caught up, they're just going to be building stock instruments and selling when finished. No custom specs and no orders.

Ray Shulman was the main bass player for Gentle Giant (as well as guitar, violin and other instruments) You don't have to be a fan of prog rock to appreciate just what a fantastic musician and composer he was. Here's a worthwhile video where other musicians and composers talk about him and give examples of his incredibly original bass lines.

I've had a quite a few custom builds over the years, and I've learnt to take prospective delivery dates with a pinch of salt. To still be waiting two years after being told it's nearly ready (if I have understood correctly) is a bit much, though. By coincidence, I was looking at the JayDee website last night for the first time in ages and it says the current wait time is sixteen months months. If it was actually sixteen months or thereabouts I'd place an order right away. However, after reading what Kevin has gone through though and other people's travails, I can do without that kind of stress in my life. There's plenty of other nice basses to buy that might arrive before my family have put me in a care home and spent my savings on scratch cards and extra strong cider. My contact with Jaydee back in the old days was always with John himself, and he was a lovely man who took great pride in his work. The bass he made for me was a flawless masterpiece and I should never have sold it. I can't understand why Jaydee would tell someone the bass is nearly finished when It isn't. They're just making problems for themselves and risking getting doorstepped by Esther Rantzen or whoever is the modern equivalent. A few weeks or months delay, okay, things can happen, but years? It's hard to believe that someone making a guitar can't differentiate between those timeframes for completing the job.

I grabbed this at the tail end of the week, brilliant condition - essentially brand new. Still with stickers on the screen and scribble strips. I bought a few different presets - some SB tones and Austin Buddy (the 200+ presets) that are still on. I keep trying different modellers but I keep coming back to my QC. I mean I spent months building a tone I guess it makes sense it’s one I love. GAS is just a pain! The FM9 is absolute beast like, I can’t say it’s not at all. The options are CRAZY! I’ve ordered a g66 gigbag for it (which should arrive tomorrow) as it didn’t fit in my mono backpack. Based in aberdeen, happy to ship!
