One that was at a ridiculously cheap price on TEMU (£44!) all the others were significantly more, but it works perfectly and is reasonably bright. Fan cooled. Quiet and a metal case.

It is, I love them, really good at the neck. On fretless, and like Mo Foster (at least according to an interview I read), I don't use the neck Jazz PUP, to my ear it just muddies things a little too much, so the body came up on eBay and I jumped. I knew I'd seen a similar bass with extended board and single PUP but I may have imagined the latter, either way I think I'm looking for the same out of this as Mr Foster did from his FL Jazz, I love the simplicity, to add to it I'm probably going to run the PUP straight to the jack socket. Have to say iIt has something of a Wishbass look about it in the flesh, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not

… depends on a few things tbh, quality of PA, taste of FOH Engineer (if there are any), size of the band, venue acoustics. … and unfortunately I tend to find better live sound is directly correlated to spending on decent equipment!

I was moving an acoutsic panel, bass was on the floor on its side and, well, you can guess the rest...... Nice idea but wrong end of the instrument.... Tony, that is genius, made my afternoon, and I think I may look at doing that. I'm wondering if I could use the soundhole insert from an acoustic guitar, as otherwise it could be quite vulnerable to further breaks. What did you use?

Zombie thread revival. I bought an LF800 sub from a member here, ( not attributing any criticism at him). This summer I took it on a few gigs with a bbii to deal with the highs and the LF800 From the low frequency output of my preamp. Then on one gig it was fine at soundcheck but come showtime, nothing out of it at all. Brought it home the audio and mains cables are fine. however when plugged into the mains no light comes on. I hace contacted Bareface by email, got one response to confirm it was the 12" sub not the 18." but nothing else. Emailed today again with no response and the phone number is not working. I'm hoping someone from BF reads this and gets in touch. Basically if the plate amp is shot, i would like to be able to get hold of another, failing that, remove it, seal the hole and convert it to a 12" non powered sub that i can drive from my power amp. Anyone have the ear of Alex?

It's hard to tell from just pictures but that looks to me like the elecrolyte has leaked out from an electrolytic capacitor. Those are the blue cans you can see on some of the other photos. That's not an uncommon occurence in old amplifiers and outside of mechanical things like switches, potsand connectors probably the most common fault you see. It should be fairly obvious which components are leaking and they are cheap enough to replace usually just a few pence depending upon the sizes. The replacements will probably be smaller than the originals, thinks have moved on. Youd need to really thoroughly clean of the boards and de-solder the offending item(s) and Id be testing nearby components but I've had a pretty good rate of successful repairs by doing no more than replacing faulty caps. No guarantees of course, they may have taken other items with them but worth finding the little so and so's and pricing them up and better than creating more land fill. This all assumes you can solder and know at least enough not to electrocute yourself

Not sure if Mysterious Traveller by Weather Report would count as Alphonso Johnson is well-acknowledged as a virtuouso and the album is hardly unknown. But in terms of counterpoint bass working in the spaces yet still driving the music, and the use of effects to get some killer tones, I think it's a visionary bass masterpiece from start to finish. And always worth reminding the world that Weather Report is Zawinul and Shorter plus a great rhythm section and not simply a vehicle for Jaco as it sometimes seems to be painted.

Like anything in music (and life in general for that matter) you'll never do it fast if you can't do it slow. Conscious, precise, slow movements are the key to any change/improvement. I've played floating thumb since I started, and doing anything else feel weird!

Anyone got more info about that rather fetching Peavey Unity? Google seems to not return much but apparently they're very nice basses indeed - £350 for a USA-made neck-thru in a very very snazzy gun metal grey colour seems like an absolute steal.
