  1. Past hour
  2. Looks like an odd setting but nice bass. Dave
  3. Nice one - the colour combo of the body and the red/orange hues in the wenge work well together.
  4. Update time! I managed to age the plate a little bit. Christmas / New Year guests are gone and I'm just recovering from my third cold-type virus in a row, so I finally got around to assembling the new control plate and wiring it up. Here's what it looks like built and then installed: Obviously the black knobs are not very 1962 but I like the look. Positive: Much easier having master volume and tone controls. Negative: There is still very little audible difference after the first small movement of the blend knob away from its centre detent. Positive: 3 distinct sounds at the twist of the blend klnob. Like @TRBboy I'll probably leave it in the middle most of the time. It's also become apparent to me that a Jazz responds rather differently from a Precision to the tone control being backed off - not bad, just different. Time to play some more Steely Dan methinks....
  5. Love that oldschool Kahler 1026-BD Heavy Resonator bridge! Looks a lot like the bridges on the 1980 Precision Bass Special, Fender's first active offering, but the saddles are different. I'm a bit thrown by the hole below the bridge. I've seen those on 1980s US Fender bodies, and on few else. Do you have pics of what it looks like underneath the pickguard? I'm wondering if this actually could have been a Precision Bass Special. That would be routed like this, with an extra channel to a battery box on the back (but minus the bridge pickup route, which was added later), but I don't think it came in Antigua:
  6. That is the coolest bass on BassChat right now and I want it... but with a new kitchen and bathroom being fitted this month, I shall sadly just have to lust after it.
  7. Generic set of non branded pickups taken out of a project bass. Measure at 7.1k and 7.2k. £20 collected or will post for £5.
  8. A pair of 5 String Delano Pickups that I took out of a project bass. Humbucker MC 5 HE/SL https://www.delano.de/mc_5_he_s/mc_5_he_s_details.html and Jazz Neck JC 5 HE/M2-AS https://www.delano.de/jc_5_he_m2/jc_5_he_m2_details.html Collection from Chelmsford or postage at buyers cost/risk.
  9. This compact, high-quality travel bass is manufactured in small quantities by Meridian Guitars, a guitar/bass maker in Avezzano, in the heart of Italy. The model offers a scale length of 21.5-23.0 inches. The variable scale length is created by Dingwall's famous fanned frets, with the lowest string having the longest scale length, which then becomes shorter and shorter towards the higher strings. The tuning is E to F. In order to achieve this tuning with the super-short scale length, normal 6-string strings are used, e.g. .130 to .028. The strings are screwed onto the nut and then simply cut off. The tuning is adjusted at the bridge. The entire bass is only 73 cm long and weighs 2.6 kg. Body: Okume Top: Cocobolo Fretboard: Wenge 16 radius, 24 frets Scale: Fanned frets 21.5 - 23 inch scale Pickup: Delano H Times Square Bridge: Brass headless bridge Preamp: Vol/Tone, coil tap switch Overall length: 72.9 cm Aluminium stripes side dot Body thickness: 35 mm Zero fret and carbon fibre nut Weight: 2.6 kg It's amazing what a mature sound comes out of this super-compact instrument. The fanned frets take some getting used to, but once you've got the hang of them, playing is actually quite quick and clean. The body has a few minor battle scars. I've tried to capture these in the pictures. Overall, however, this Vimana is in top condition and the quality and appearance are truly high-end. The original canvas gig bag is included as well as the original exclusive leather bag from Meridian, which is not available anymore. I received this bass from Rogier van W. who joined David Garrett on his world tour 2023/24 and used this bass as a backup. Asking 1500 GBP / 1.700 EUR plus shipping from Duesseldorf/Germany. No trades please !
  10. Not last night, actually sunday. We had a gig at a pub in a local beauty spot (which considering I live in Yeovil, there aren't too many!), it was the day at the end of all the holidays. It was going to be a pain to get in. Turned up just after the singer so followed them in round a corner and parked by the building, as well as we could. Had to carry everything through a door that people were insisting of standing in the way of, but it was their party so couldn't be too annoyed at them. There was a tiny width of stage, and there were already a load of guitars there as apparently there was going to be a couple of people playing at our half time. We had to move the stuff as there wasn't enough room in general! Anyway, we started and people were dancing from the start and they moved all the tables out of the room which was good. Did the first hour or so ending with whole lotta love that we haven't done for a while. Then we had a break and a lot of food from the party, while the public event of what appeared to be people singing to a backing track with a guitar went on for half an hour. Not sure why there were two guitars and a bass though! Anyway we went back on and it went well, very interactive crowd, although towards the end of the night they started tailing off as the party had been going since much earlier, and the snow was making people think they should get going. Was much easier loading again though due to the lack of people and tables, but there was a fair bit of snow. This beauty spot is the top of the hill, I was going to go the normal way down the hill, but the drummer said I should go the other way, through the villages, which isn't steep because of the weather, I didn't think it was really necessary, but driving out of the car park after the singer, on a very gentle slope the car antilock hammered. The singer was going the other way so I followed, it was a very slow journey home considering how short it is, but got there! Heres my corner, nice and cosy. This was actually 8pm and completely dark but the camera decided to just lighten it up. Thats the road. Just before load in Just before we started.
  11. I am selling my well-played F Bass BN5 in black. Specs: Ash body Black finish, matching headstock Maple board with side dots Scale 34.5", 19 mm spacing at the bridge F Bass pickups and F Bass electronics Ebony knobs Chrome hardware Dunlop straplocks Year of manufacture 2000 Weight 4040g Noname case The bass has many signs of wear (see pictures), but is technically 100% fine and very easy to play. Definitely not a bass for exhibition, but if you're looking for a warm and organic sounding bass that delivers a great slap sound and is wonderful to play, you should take a look at it. The price is 2.400 GBP / 2,700 EUR, which is really very fair for a full-grown F bass. Buyer pays shipping and insurance. The bass is located in Düsseldorf, Germany. No trade offers, please.
  12. Any recommendations of professional luthiers in Norfolk/East Anglia? I’ve taken my bass to a couple of local “luthiers” and have been left less than impressed with the work done on my bass - jobs missed/not completed properly, so really looking for someone who know what they’re doing to a high standard! I’m literally willing to travel further afield for the right person if needs be. Tired of throwing money at people who can’t even do the basics properly.
  13. A Berg CN212 apparently weighs 22kg
  14. Agreed Mick, Whilst the SMX series added some useful bells and whistles such as compression and a blendable valve/solid state preamp, the Series 6 has a certain immediate clarity with clout never bettered by Trace Elliot.
  15. Bought Tim's Lakland 55-02 off him today and it's a lovely thing! He very kindly offered to meet halfway and took one of my TC 2 x8 cabs in part ex. Thanks agaim Tim. The bass is superb. Really appreciate you holding it for me. Cheers! Keir
  16. I agree @ped, it’s become an arms race, especially in terms of amplification
  17. Shiny Happy People - R.E.M.
  18. TRBs are fabulous instruments 👍
  19. Great condition Hellx LT complete with Diago showman pedalboard which does a great job of protecting it. The LT is in full working order and minimal signs of use. Factory reset and up to date firmware. I also have the original box up in the loft if the purchaser wants it! The case is fairly well worn and was used extensively with other pedals before the helix went in it, but it's solid and perfect for the job and has spare space for external pedals, wireless etc Collection from Chelmsford. Only selling as I need to physically downsize to a StompXL or similar (Anagram quad cortex etc) to gain some stage space. Might consider a trade/PX some something smaller!
  20. Wonderful! I also wish i still had my first TRB5II in Amber. It was my first proper bass, after starting out on an old Japanese Condor Jazz Bass. I bought it new around 2003 and loved it. I sold it after getting a used luthier-made 5-string with a 34" scale, which suited me better than the TRB's 35" scale, but I did end up missing it somewhat. I later had a used trans blue one for a while, but sold that when I got a Stingray 5. I have fond memories of both TRB's though, they were incredibly solid and sounded fabulous.
  21. Today
  22. HOW many steps?
  23. Doing a Sunday afternoon on the old Renfrew Ferry,Glasgow Tickets £5 or £19.95 with 2 course lunch!
  24. Thank you. Yes, i feel it's a good price for an instrument of this pedigree and versatility
  25. I’ve had a US 55/94 and it was great no doubt, but these are easily 90% of the way there, there’s an awfully large premium on the 55/94’s when the electronics are identical so they sound no different, the difference is the neck. The U.S. Lakland necks are really amazing, but they’re not worth and extra 2-3 grand - I think it says more about how good the Skylines are than anything negative about the U.S. ones.
