I think 1980 Rush would be shocked - possibly even horrified - that the band still existed in any form, 45 years on. I've mentioned I've followed them for a while. I distinctly remember reading an interview with Geddy - I think it would've been in 1984, the band's 10th anniversary and the release of Grace Under Pressure, their 10th studio album - discussing the future of the band. Of course, a band with a 10 year career was fairly unusual back then, and they already had a huge back catalogue & had been through several musical metamorphoses. Discussing what he thought the future held Geddy said Rush was "nearer to the end than the beginning", and that when it came it "would be a beautiful day". I wonder if he remembers giving that interview?

Fantastic... Thank you for your help.

The guy is bonkers and just seems angry at the world for not venerating him as a genius. But he can’t half play. It seems sad that he’s become embittered given he’s had a stellar career. It’s just that the bass pyrotechnics stuff isn’t as popular as it once was and he’s arguably been eclipsed by the next generation who are a little more tasteful. If you’re reading this Jeff, I’d go for a beer with you.

because they are good at making pedals and bad at marketing!! Honestly, having tried the FI4 yesterday - I want one, it was amazing sounding. I've no idea which is lusher - for bass I would probably focus on how low latency they are, you can add reverb pedals after if needed!

Do you think of yourself as a musical 'artist'?

Artist. Artiste, whatever.. Anyone can call themselves whatever they like and everyone else can laugh at them as they see fit. If someone has made enough cold hard cash to laugh back then their status as an artist is considerably emboldened. This does, however, lead to a considerable number of artists without much artistic merit. -

It’s all good. We’re in a world where someone will refuse to buy a bass because the string spacing is 1mm out, so precision definitely matters. I’ve owned lots and lots of vintage basses and the strings would rarely bisect the poles perfectly yet people now pay £20,000 for the same basses. Maybe the misalignment is where the magic is! The longer I play bass the less worried I am about all this stuff. I played the Royal Albert Hall once with a £350 jazz bass and that was fine. -

Cheaper to get Elixir XL strings? Any downside?
Dood replied to Mike's topic in Accessories and Misc
Came to say the same. On smaller tuners the full outer winding of the string is likely to break as it won't want to curl around such a small post - thats why strings have their inner windings exposed at the tuners. Rotosound used to (and I am suspect they still do) specify in their warranty that string breakages caused by fitting the wrong type of string are not covered. -

There was a story Jeff Berlin tells about listening to the Jaco record. Jeff said it his brother “I can play all that, it’s not that hard.” To which his brother replied, “yes, but could you write it?” I’m paraphrasing a bit but the essence is the same. Coming up with this stuff is the hard bit, there are plenty of others in the world who can play it.
