I've got a lot of 12AX7s, including some rare original production Tesla valves. In this context, I'd be looking for low microphony first and then low noise. The JJ is ok on both counts. I'd think a short plate 12AX7 would be quieter in a musical instrument amp than a long plate, maybe? I don't think section matching is important, but it would be good if it breaks up early, as it's mainly adding distortion. I might trying throwing a few in to see, but the Ruby and the JJ sounded identical (they are the same tube).. I was just replacing it to have a new valve in there for reliability. In my valve hifi amps, I'm much more picky and have tried quite a few!. Getting harder to find good new production ones. I've bought from Watford valves, hotrox before and never had a bad one, so their QA / screening seems good.

Today I got stuck heavily into the cosmetics. Headstock: Still some wobbly bits to sort out (the white neep logo was NOT fun to paint - very fiddly) Also made a start on the French polish - this is the first layer - I guess I just build it up until it more or less matches the surroundings... Not all good news though - there is an area of damage and discolouration on the bottom of the body. Turns out this must have been where the bass was sitting on the shed "floor" (ie. the ground) and i think moisture has gotten in there - thankfully having to fight gravity as the bass was upright. Unfortunately, this area is basically Swiss cheese - the little holes are me being able to push a cocktail stick in with minimal force... It's not structural, but I'll have to decide what to do about it. The obvious answer would seem to be cut it out back to good wood then glue in a patch, but I have no idea what wood this body is made of...

Yup, bringing the price down to $12,500 would be a game-changer.

Fair play to you. I used the new lightweight Rumbles for years live where I daisied two 100's together and at home but was never really satisfied. For me they just dont have that last ounce of mid range grind. Then I discovered the Ampeg BA range, problem solved. The Rumbles are a dream for the gigging bassist which I was and who isnt too fussed about delivery, but after Ampeg they do seem rather...well, 'polite'. Anyway good luck.

Clearly she is a top-level craftswoman who takes care and thinks things through to purchase the right tools for the job. Whereas you are just another male bass player, like the rest of us. 😁

I really like the look of these!

Got this in a trade on here recently but it’s just not got much use. Between the green Russian and the grey stache that I own I have my fuzz needs covered. This one is two big muffs running in parallel, one of them has a standard tone control, the other has a mid boost/cut. Certainly a lot to play with and a lot of sounds to be gotten out of it! No original box with this but will be packaged securely. Price will include postage in the UK

This was on my board for a few years, never let me down but just fancied a change so I’ve got a boss chorus on the board now. The toneprint options make it a pretty versatile pedal, found myself mostly using the Duff McKagan toneprint. No original box for this unfortunately but will be packaged securely. Price includes postage in the UK, cheers

Thanks folks for the lovely comments. So I have filled the knot in the neck pocket today with some black Milliout epoxy to make a feature and stabilise it. There was also a slight splinter that came out on the edge of the pocket so sorted that as well

Yeah, especially stereo. My wife (our singer) liked the Nux and it’s her birthday in a couple of weeks. We agreed i would get another set for her to try, but if its the same issue it will go back and she can borrow my Lekato’s when we gig. I only want these for the bands im playing bass with and she isnt in those. I even plugged the Nux in to my audio interface and played music through them. Awfully distorted. As with my Lekato WS-90 i can see these arent shielded well, but as long as we are carful it should be fine.

Gig ink. They did a Hamer guard fir me a few months back. Really high quality work.

It is... Though £1800 prior to shipping and taxes currently makes it outside of budget. Maybe when my waffle business takes off...

Looks like you did a great job

Our local rehearsal studios has these Laney digbethsin combo form in each room .. some kind of sponsor / deal / package from Laney .. all their gear is now Laney .. I'm really struggling with it. Is there a secret trick ... Why does the head had a mid control but the combo does not .... The lack of mid control means that I'm struggling really hard to adjust my tone .. I don't play a mid focused bass( old smoothie ray) I imagine it works great on something that is .. like a precision but I'm having to stick an EQ up front to do anything with it ..

I’d make that natural, great grainy ash. maybe an “aged” tint - but not that awful orange stuff.

The grain looks interesting enough. What are your thoughts having revealed it?

I like that a lot. I wonder if they might do a limited lower specced MiM or USA production run if this generates enough interest.
