  2. It seems like I've been on an eternal journey trying to 'find the right octave pedal' and I've had, and tried quite a few (see my list below and comments) and just wondered what people might recommend, or even if I should revisit old ones from my list with different suggested settings. My remit, to achieve the Pino octave sound on 'Tear your playhouse down', or Tony Levin's 'Sledgehammer' and I realise both were done on Fretless bass and the latter had a healthy dose of compression, and possibly chorus, or Guy Pratt's sound on Pink Floyd's 'Sorrow' and the middle section of 'Like a Prayer'. So, I'm not interested in the sub, synthy sounds, or even having an Octave Up, so pretty straightforward and a nice rounded, smooth, and strong octave down sound that I hear on recordings with an OC-2. On that note, I wonder, could this be the one and should I seek out an MIJ one, but as you can see, the MIT ones didn't get me there and hands up, I have to make an allowance for my own shortcomings and human error. If using a compressor, should it come before or after the Octaver and would adding some boost before it enhance the octave sound?? Boss OC-3 and OC-5 - I never felt the octave sound was strong enough and didn't achieve the OC-2 sound I wanted Pearl OC-7 - my friend has an old one and this gets close, but it glitchier than most and I found differences between the same pedals Aguilar Octamiser - I never felt the octave sound was strong enough and didn't like the tone MXR ones - too gritty and didn't like the tone EBS ones (Octabass and Triple Mode) - the latter was more versatile but once again, it didn't have the right tone OC-2 - I had a MIJ years ago which sounded very good on guitar (wasn't a bassist then), but MIT I've tried are too glitchy and I'm not really going below a low A in all examples I heard a really good one that was in-built in an Ashdown Amp (sub-harmonic generator) Any recommendations outside the list that I should look at or decent OC-2 clones without the glitching? Many thanks
  3. I love this thing. The only reason I’m listing this is because I’d like to get the newest version. That is a lot more expensive so I need to recoup some funds towards it, otherwise I’d keep this too and use on a second board. In excellent condition, with a few cosmetic marks as pictured. No box, power supply or MIDI breakout cable though (which is how it came to me).
  4. Two days in. Rusty start, bit of hand pain, bit of a struggle until things loosened up. Back in next week.
  5. Thanks. The pickup and controls were stock, I just had the scratchplate removed, and a mirror surround made to cover the gap. I also got the slab body reshaped with a roll-off on the top front edge, a belly cut, and resprayed brilliant white. It was sunburst originally. The bass must have been made late on a Friday afternoon, as mentioned earlier in the thread, because when I bought it second hand for £250 in a music shop in Edinburgh in 1981, the bridge was slightly out of alignment, so I had it removed and a Schaller with roller saddles installed. As it was the 80's, I also had to have a brass nut fitted, of course. It was a lovely thing, and I'd pay a good few bob to get it back, but I suspect it's either met a sticky end, or is languishing in someone's loft, never to see the light of day again. Of course, if anyone knows different... 😄
  6. Not finished sanding there. ☺️
  7. That looks very good value for the money! Be a shame to part it out. GLWTS.
  8. Fretless is exactly the same process. Depending on the thickness, it tends to be a bit slower as there are no frets to speed up the transfer of heat to the glue joint but probably less risk of breaking.
  9. Following on with the theme of appalling Americanisms defiling the Queens English, I mentioned this way back on this thread and it warrants repeating... Tubes (pronounced toobz) when used by folk from this green and unpleasant land referring to valves. Yes, I know it's what those shouty, excitable cool kids from out in the colonies call them on YouToob. But you're not from Minnesota are you, you're from Halifax. So please stop it or I'll be obliged to give you a damn good fisting.
  10. Mine is due tomorrow and I still have the MXR to compare it to, although really it’s what the FI is like with the new update that I’m most interested in. But I’ll post some initial impressions when I’ve had a play.
  11. Please amend the title to include the word “sold” and the thread will auto lock. Thanks.
  12. Often wondered why double basses have those ugly extensions instead of a drop tuner. No need after all! Tho orchestral music often goes low C, requiring C, G, D, G tuning which is a bit of a fingering nightmare and would need detuners approaching those on a zon hyper bass. 5 string maybe the way to go.
  13. You need an extra long case. I've owned two Originals, one came with it's own flight case which judging by the stickers on it had actually been on some flights, and for the other I was able to source a suitable hard case from my local musical instrument shop amongst their stock of spare used cases in the days when they used to have such things. Both cases were the same internal size (within a few mm) so it would appear that it is a standard, albeit one that isn't very common. Unfortunately I don't have either bass any more so I can't measure them for you. Alternatively you could ask Overwater. IIRC they still make basses with the Original shape as a custom order so they should know of a source of suitable cases.
  14. You Sir, are clearly a man of impeccable taste. Will you marry me?
  15. You can still just about read that the brand is Squier.
  16. Today
  17. I had a tattoo by Sketch from Tattoo Fixers, back before the show started. Its since been covered up because it was a bit wonky.
  18. Welcome, glad you've decided to embrace the bass, too.

  20. My name is Barron Chen, and I'm from China. I currently work as a software developer. I enjoy playing guitar, especially country music, with my favorites being Take Me Home and Country Roads. I've been playing guitar for four years. I also like electronic music; Alan Walker is my favorite producer, but I don't know how to produce electronic music yet. I'll learn how to do it when I have time in the future.
  21. Wow, a seriously cool looking bass. I've never seen this model before. Thank you for posting photos and for sharing your observations 👍
  22. I love the burl style finish and overall colour. The colour matched knobs and pick ups look awesome too. However 10 string neck !😳 I'm not sure my little hands would be capable of stretching anywhere near enough to play the lower note strings 😰 And I dread to think how much this bass weighs !
