I’m biased and would recommend a Moon 😊. Early 90’s will likely have the Fender-style headstock and may be on the heavy side if ash bodied. The Moon Blackbird pre is simple and hi-fi quality, if that is your thing. It does 70s jazz sound in spades! Either way, an enviable situation and choice.

Hola, For those using a Stomp with the Hotone 2 button switch this is a great replacement TRS cable: MXR 12” TRS The cable that came with the switch failed after like 14 months and I found some TRS’s don’t work. The people at Guitarguitar Camden were really helpful and happy to get some into stock so I could try it before I parted with any cash. So a big shout out for their customer service! And they have at least another one there if anyone needs one!

Oh yes - and remember the golden rule "Always tune UP to pitch" If you are sharp, detune past the note and then adjust back up. This ensures that any backlash in the tuners is eliminated and also ensures that the tension of the coils on the post is at a consistent level.

Tuner / machine-head talk... Just taken delivery of a used Electra (I have 2 full fat Cali basses) and it really is great BUT I can just feel a headstock imbalance and I'd like to fit lighter tuners. I 'think' that 3/4" tuners fit but I'm undecided as to whether to search for a set of German Cali tuners or to source Hipshots (or similar). I've read through this thread and there's lots of talk about the probs of finding suitable drop tuners but has anyone much experience with replacing full sets on an Electra?

Used briefly last year, but only indoors. It does have a couple of holes drilled in it where I attached a power supply. Otherwise, it's in good condition. The bag has never been used. Dimensions: 45.7 cm x 12.7 cm x 3.5 cm -

OK - my take. 1. As folks have said, where the silks end up is entirely up to where the string maker wound them to and how far the peg is away from the stop tail or stop tail part of the bridge. They will always end up the same distance from the peg once wound up to tune 2. The big no-no is not to have winds on the tuner riding up on each other...even a bit. If they do, it allows the possibility of the winds shifting in relation to each other and that could lead to tuning instability 3. The ideal is to end up - with all coils butted up to each other - having the exit of the last coil as near to the bottom of the peg as you can get (but without risking 2 above). This way, you maximise the break angle over the nut and - in the case of string trees - it applies less tension and friction onto the string tree 4. The actual distance to allow depends on how thick the string is and how thick/long the thin string leader is 5. In terms of the distance I cut to, I personally have a rule of thumb of a fingers-closed hand width past the far side of the post (which for me is 10cm/4"), but with the bottom E usually shorter in order to avoid 2 above. 6. If I am going to err on a 'safe side', I err towards longer and not shorter. If I've overcooked it, I have no problem loosening it, snipping a cm or so off the end and then rewinding it

If its just your voice you need to hear for pitching purposes, but you don't need the rest of the band in In-Ears, I used a clever little trick which ended up getting compliments from my band mates at the time as to how my voice had improved. I had some moulded ear-plugs made (it was a company like ACS who used the larger Etymotic Research ER filters) and I bought three sets of filters. They were something like -9dB -15dB, -25dB attenuation). I loved those ear plugs, the sound was really balanced and clear, as opposed to many that are peaky or muffled. The trick was to pick a filter that attenuated the sound outside my head just enough that when I sang I could hear the voice inside my head just over the top. It worked really, really well and did rely on the ear plug filter passing a clear sound. For the band I was playing in generally the -15dB was about right. To be honest, a really good moulded ear plug should be used all the time anyway, so, it's not much of an investment, very cheap compared to the rigmarole of going to In-Ears if it isn't strictly necessary at this point. It didn't really help the other voices inside my head or the ringing, but my voice improved ha ha ha! -
Nearly every desk has an auxiliary out on each channel, you can use those to send whatever mix you want to a cheap headphone amp then into your IEMs. As it's only you using them, you can put just vocals or whatever else you need in your mix. My partner just bought the bits for this (she plays the fiddle) and after one gig she described it as a total game changer. Can't remember exactly what she bought but it was a cheap and cheerful headphone amp and wired IEMs from Thomann. If you wanted to run direct from the mic, I think you might need a mic preamp to bring the level up a bit before it goes to the headphone amp. -

Some belated positive feedback for Gavin who sold me a pedal earlier this year. We got messed around by Royal Mail who sadly seem to have lost the pedal forever. However Gavin dealt with it really well, chasing them up, communicating well and giving me a full refund - can't ask for more than that, thanks.
