It sounds as if you have the earlier Suitcase (in the 4B cab), rather than the later one, which is a C4 with built in amp. The cab sizes for both combos are identical to the plain cabs, so volume, porting, etc are already correct. You just need to mask off the hole where the amp panel was and you're good to go. I'd take Bill's advice and wire them series/parallel. Those PJB drivers are 8 ohms. The 4B is claimed to be good for 300W and the C4 for 400W (I have both and think 400's a little optimistic. The drivers are the same, so 300 is safer). Your Tone Hammer will be fine to use with them, especially if it's the 500. The 700 might push them a bit at high volume, but it'll be obvious from the sound if they're struggling.

I think I've redeemed myself. Start again then... Made a better jig which actually works the correct way round... First cuts... And then changed the jig to do the short sides, et voilà That's more like it! Crappy first attempt above for comparison. Then I guess when you write on it with a Sharpie, it becomes official... The only thing I have to consider is that my top bearing router bit is a bit fat for the corners of the pickup (it's OK for the mounting lugs), had to cut them out after the fact on the template, so going to have to figure out how to solve that. But progress is progress, and I'm much happier with this second attempt at the template. One final piece of paranoia - I checked that the neck fits when the pickup is mounted - it has a 21st fret overhang... Phew! That is approximately where the neck pickup of a Peavey T-40 goes with regard to scale length.

My hatred of baked beans is not irrational. They deserve all the hatred I can muster. The vile taste, the vile texture. The revolting sauce they are in. They alone are reason enough for humanity to end. Anyone and everyone who had any involvement in them being not only available for sale, but actually grown and harvested at all should be propelled straight into the sun. Oh, you mean bass related? Tube amps on bass are completely pointless. Outdated, unreliable, too heavy, fragile, pointless. Once good transistor amps were available they should have been banned. Anyone and everyone who had any involvement in them still existing after good transistor amps were available should be propelled straight into the sun.

Here is my fender Mex P which i purchased brand new in 2021,it's in excellent condition and it's only been played at home. I never really took to the neck to be fair,i'm more of a Jazz bass neck fan. Anyway it's not being given the playing justice it deserves so i'm moving it on to someone who'll actually play this lovely Bass. I upgraded the Pickup in 2022 to Fender pure Vintage 63 ones. I also changed the pickguard to the tort one seen here. I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINALS FOR THE ABOVE WHICH CAN BE ADDED FOR £60 ON TOP. I have added the Fender specs for clarity also. The guitar can be played and inspected and picked up at my home address in Derbyshire So it is COLLECTION ONLY on this one. So it's time to treat yourself.

Have some unused valves knocking around that aren't going to get used. They were purchased a while back as spares for the Fender Tweed Deluxe kit I built. I have tested them this morning in my amp and all are working fine with no noises of any kind. The EHX preamp valves are 1 x 12AX7 and 1 x 12AY7 - one has the original box the other one doesn't for some reason, but both are unused and have been sat in my drawer. The 12AX7 is now sold Looking for £12 posted for the 12AY7 please. The rectifier valves are 2 x NOS Brimar 5Y3GT and 1 x NOS Pinnacle 5Z4GT - The Pinnacle can be used as drop in replacements for a 5Y3GT. I bought all of these as New Old Stock and they come with the original boxes but do have signs of wear on the cardboard. The Brimar valves have a corrugated cardboard and tissue paper protective cover that come with age appropriate smell 😂 Looking for £15 each posted please. Happy to arrange local meet-up with price adjustment if needed.

Adememoire started following Finale Carbon Fiber [sic] Bass Bow - French
-
Lots of carbon fibre bows about now, but this is one of the better-reviewed ones: it comes complete with case. I've been using it for several years and it was salt and pepper rehaired by Lily Verguson just before I swapped over to a German bow (weird double-jointed thumb became too painful with the French bow hold, sadly). Will post within UK at cost. https://www.stringemporium.com/finale-bass-bows.htm

I don't like painted necks. I get uncomfortable with non matching brands on amps and cabs. Basses with a matching headstock sound better than ones without Nobody likes bass solos (well... nobody likes mine. Especially not me) Any bass that's been refinished must be good because somone kept it and repainted it rather than sell it and buy a similar one a different colour Vintage basses that don't show much wear are probably not great since nobody wanted to play them a lot

Terry M. started following Screws in or out?
-
I find screws in basses that aren't actually screwing anything down weird so they go in a cupboard. I've never lost one when time to sell the bass. I find the covers (for me) serve no practical use despite liking the aesthetics. I even ordered an official Fender Marcus Miller Jazz Bass V chrome cover all the way from Holland once just to install it and take it off within weeks and hide in the cupboard with the screws.

Phil Jones Bass D400 amp review from a blind player's perspective
JGSpector replied to JGSpector's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi Andy. yes it does. I've never had a flightcase combo so i can't make the direct comparison myself. But certainly the smoothing out the signal and making it sound more 3D very much describes my experience with the compressor. I'm not sure that's necessarily helped but hope it's at least confirmed what you are thinking. Cheers, James -
Please help before I throw my pedalboard out the window 🤣
fretmeister replied to bassben1's topic in Effects
Well, the HX fuzz models are not very good, and really the filers and synths aren't great either. -
I could have done. But the overall standardisation (QC) of the product’s manufacture is one factor that is relevant to the end price. There are also wages, machine v employee ratio, raw materials, shipping, tariffs, desirability/ market value and probably more. All the end buyer sees is the end product, the made in/ crafted in sticker and reputation gained/ lost from reviews. You hear it all the time on BC, “japanese fenders are the best”. Any factors other than the location are made irrelevant due to the reputation earned.

Question: Filling pocket screw holes on maple neck
Si600 replied to Grooverjr's topic in Repairs and Technical
Not only that, but it's constrained by the hole it's in, even if the plug does split it has no room to expand so the screw will still be held in. With a pilot hole to remove the material that's in the way of the screw you'll be fine drilling and plugging. -
Fulltone Deja Vibe MDV-2 - Price drop £160 posted

Thanks very for the replies. I brought the head home to try a few things, but last night at rehearsal used a '55 Pbass and input at 3:00, tube 3:00 to full on, not much in terms of EQ--a little bass and a touch of mids. I don't think of this bass as having weak output either. When I glanced over I never recall the needle moving much at all. I never even get to half way unless I'm trying and really dig in with any bass. I have also noticed that sometimes I get more overdrive than other times with the settings the same. Obviously the output of each bass varies, so that is a factor. Last night I never noticed any overdrive with the above settings, and I'm not shooting for distortion.

Built up photograph here, Chris (stand not included in the sale, it seemed to cost nearly as much as the bass...) and another showing some more cosmetic damage. Electrics survived the fall without damage, yes. Another interested party has asked about the possibility of having it sent: I do have the original Yamaha shipping box so it's at least theoretically possible. I had a quick look at what it might cost and if one adds the insurance to cover the value, it would probably be around £80-£100. It was shipped to me via DPD and they would do it uninsured for about £15, I guess the original shipment was covered by the shop's insurance.
