Some clubs we've played have offered us a drink, tea or coffee when we first arrive. Must admit i enjoy a coffee after driving for a few hrs to a gig. It kind of sets a tone for me. I appreciate that some clubs are struggling at the moment to get folks in but quite a few we play it points towards poorly run venues whether its the wrong type of acts or the timing of acts. Come across some clubs where the guy booking the acts is the DJ and they think that folks are mainly there to listen to a DJ than watch a band. Unfortunately that club is losing members rapidly at shows with many show cancellations due to poor ticket sales. Dave

... and Sergio barely had time to get back home when he was here again, this time buying my Gibson Les Paul Jnr DC. Really accomodating about timing and such a lovely guy!

My daughter came home for a bit earlier for another gig this afternoon (4th in two days, 5th tomorrow) and on her way back to Glastonbury all excited to see Deftones tonight, her favourite band and then they announced on their social media they've had to cancel due to illness in the band. She is not happy. I shall continue to wind her up about how many times I've seen them.

Dave, Agreed. In my neck of the woods the nicer upscale venues go out of their way to treat bands nice. These places always comp entrees and drinks for the band. At The Harley Motor the lady that supervises the place comes up to the band members before the last set to take our orders. Daryl

Double bass rebuild - not for the faint of heart!
itu replied to The Guitar Weasel's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Kool. That would most likely be good for metal, too! Will the wood be seen through the colour? -
only you cant get the tone of a BDDI 😀

Inspired by this thread, I thought I’d do a bit of catch up on iplayer, whilst doing some chores. For me, it’s like an extended, outdoor version of Jools’ Later, without the boogie woogie - all a bit meh. Just listening to Inhaler’s sub U2 performance (it’s genetic I guess), that P bass through the SVT is marvellous, what a roar!
-
I thought she was terrific on Later. For me, she's got real star quality. Like we've both said, there's a huge divergence of opinion on what's good and what's not. Nothing wrong with that.

Many decades ago I found this case second hand in the Birminham Bass Centre. It has a label saying Howson with a union jack and a phone number. Not seen another one like it ever, it's excellent though.

I'm a thumb plectrum man... Basically hit the string on both the Up- and the Down-stroke! Some times with a slap for emphasis. Then 3 fingers wiggle about doing other widdleystuff.

No such luxuries for us, maybe a storage area to change in rather than the bogs. Never any problems with the bar staff, but the committee members, who plainly don’t speak to each other and have agendas. The money is better than pubs, but the vibe is often one of ambivalence, with most wanting bingo and some dodgy Spotify playlist. We’re plainly playing the wrong venues.

Thanks Geek99, Agreed, they had the same volume cissue for the lead singer in the band that played before us . Daryl

The Op hasn't been on Basschat for over 3 years now.

Having seen her on Later a while ago I'll be steering well clear. But some folks are clearly huge fans!!! It clearly takes all sorts... Shall hopefully be catching up with Bob Vylan later, then search for entertaining oddness, like the Porn Crumpets last year!

Love the Laney. Subtle EQ and options that benefit the player in a live situation. It doesn't force a baked in sound - it lets you dial in how you want it.
-
I have a ProDI for emergency situations and everyone has loved it.
-
I saw a bit of CMAT. Seriously, that must be the worst vocal performance ever on the pyramid stage.
-
I like using my fingers to hit the strings downwards for a percussive sound that's more subtle than slap.
-
Because while both are past their sell-by date, the 1975 aren't quite as stale, and neither have been going long enough to get a second wind as "legends".
