  1. Past hour
  2. Those three albums with Sly and Robbie are fantastic. Amazing production on them as well, completely timeless IMO. Going to stick one of them on right now....
  3. A few years back now I wandered into GAK’s old bass section out the back of the store and was chatting to the bass guy who knew I had a Wal. He said they’d just had an old Wal traded in and offered it to me for £900 😱 I had no funds in those days and had to pass 😢, though I did come back and give a heads up here in the evening - I believe it was gone at 9:05 the next day 🤣
  4. The main issue with the Beta 10 isn't tone, it's the paltry 3mm xmax. That limits it mechanically to 30 watts or so. That wasn't so bad when it came out some 30 years ago, but it's not up to today's standards. This also could have been built on the BP102 motor, where xmax is a far better 6.2mm. No way of knowing, really, unless you have a friend with a Klippel analyzer.
  5. What a wonderful update. Mark
  6. Cheese the one - Robbie W
  7. Properly setup those two seem good choices to me
  8. Said they'd remeasure. Website still says the same and I notice that the list page says it's tapered neck. The short scale tapered neck is thickness at nut 24mm and at 12th fret 30mm which sounds massive.
  9. Can you message me payment info please.

  14. I suggest you find the bass you want first then come back and we’ll talk pocket amps and so on. Keep it simple plus you might live near enough a basschat member to collect a bargain surplus amp plus maybe some tips
  15. https://maestronet.com/forum/index.php?/topic/338769-bow-wood-identification/ You could ask this guy!
  16. If you buy a bass with tone controls, then you will be able to adjust the sound for different purposes....try as many different types as you can, you will figure out what you do and don't like. Personally I'd say don't spend much until you're ready to go all in when you're clear of what you like...but do whatever suits you!
  17. Cheeses built my hot rod - Ministry
  18. I'd just like to point out that this venue is a single hall, so we can organise the talks as interludes between folks bashing their basses (or is it vice-versa!). We've got about 5 hours to play with, so it should work out about right.
  19. Excellent news!
  20. That's a great band; really funky bass playing / player and a fab sounding Lakland bass! 👌 Haven't got a Scooby Doo who they are, though..?
  21. There was this one time.. oh, no.. wait.. NSFW... What would folk like from a mini-clinic / talk / nerdy ramble / tech lesson / theory and technique teaching workshop?
  22. Great news Rob xxx
  23. Picking the string hard may move the whole string a bit away from the actual tuning. If you do the same with a harmonic and softer touch, the frequency should be exact all the time. This may happen also when the tuning post has lots of random rounds and the saddle is slightly sticky. Graphite may help as well as the right way to tune the strings. But if the whole bass is like a spring, toss it.
  24. There is no doubt that I need to be around my tribe more, I miss y'all, the bass shows and the like. Living up here isn't exactly conducive to a life in the thick of the bass world!! I'm about three hours away from the venue, so at the moment I'm not sure. I'd love to be there otherwise!
