  1. Past hour
  2. I have a fender one and it has been good, which is a surprise as every other fender cable I have had has been junk. Maybe it was a lucky accident.
  3. A pair of 5 String Delano Pickups that I took out of a project bass. Humbucker MC 5 HE/SL https://www.delano.de/mc_5_he_s/mc_5_he_s_details.html and Jazz Neck JC 5 HE/M2-AS https://www.delano.de/jc_5_he_m2/jc_5_he_m2_details.html Collection from Chelmsford or postage at buyers cost/risk.
  4. Not terrible, but a couple of centimetres at least, coupled with high winds, with more to come. It’s not necessarily the conditions, rather other road users, with a lack of respect for the conditions. Stay home, keep warm, have another JD.
  5. Admitting it is the first step to overcoming your affliction. Well done.
  6. And how much does it weigh?
  7. It started off as me trying to find a sound something between Tony Levin (circa Thrak-era King Crimson) and Justin Chancellor, which gradually morphed into its own thing to accommodate my tastes and playing technique. I used to be a fairly heavy-handed player, but I'm playing with a far lighter touch these days but I still want things to sound big, so I'm using two compressors in series, Levin-style, to control the dynamics, then, in terms of EQ, notching out that boxy-sounding 800Hz frequency range and gently boosting low and high mids. I also mostly play a 6-string these days, so I've had to adjust the EQ and compression to accommodate the high C so it doesn't sound brittle compared to the others. I also have an alternate version of this sound for fretless where I don't dial out the 800Hz range, since that's where a lot of the "mwah" lives in the frequency spectrum. I'm currently using a Headrush Flex Prime for effects - not a popular choice for bass (it doesn't have many bass-specific effects, amps or IRs), but it's small, powerful, easy to use and does everything I need it to do. It also came with the ReValver amp modelling software, which I used to model my previous Zoom B3n-based tone, directly from the pedal, so I had a good starting point to go from there.
  8. 2 for £10? I'll take those. I have a signed cassette of Cocktail Cowboy (Peggy was delighted... said no one ever asked for it to be signed before) and a pirate tape of Gladys (featuring the brilliant 'The Riverhead' which I still haven't quite figured out). Pm incoming.
  9. That makes sense: sell the item into its home market, and people recognise and favour that brand, and pay a premium for it. An update: I spoke with the seller, and asked him whether the pedalboard was indeed a Midi item. "It's Midi, and it's not Midi". I think that he saw anything with multi-Pin connector, which can be plugged in, as a type of midi. I have put it down as a lack of expertise, rather than willful deception (although he used to run his own music shop, so he should know better). The item is unused - it is New Old Stock - and had a retail price of about £300. Given the above, I am happy to have the item to either resell, or to retrofit with a midi module. (Or even, shove it up in the loft for my children to rediscover when I am dead!) 1. Doepfer midi module https://www.thomann.co.uk/doepfer_mbp25_elektronik.htm 2. Doepfer Panel https://www.thomann.co.uk/doepfer_mbp25_frontplatte.htm 3. Connection cable https://www.thomann.co.uk/doepfer_connection_cable_pd_3.htm 4. The manual https://doepfer.de/pdf/MBP25_Manual.pdf
  10. Yes, but in a passive system, changing the volume does actually change the EQ, not just the perception of it.
  11. I try to get a balanced, full tone riding on the edge of overdrive so I can did in for a bit of grit. Ideally new Roto 66s but for longevity Fender nickelscthat aren't as bright.
  12. Fair enough. A name pre-dating the Internet, I've no doubt.
  13. So you swap flexibility for predictability, which is a wholly rational choice if that suits your needs.
  14. It will be very evident which frequency range you need to give over for the sake of a clear mix.
  15. That happens this time of year , but in the months leading into Christmas I’ve noticed that things that would have instantly sold , have been sitting. Especially in the US , but to a lesser degree our local market on kijiji as well. Things are unusually slow.
  16. thread hi jack, anybody got a recommendation for an amp with a mid tone control? I find the best way to bring the bass out in a recording is to cut the mids
  17. Gonna Hitchhike Down To Cincinnati And Kick The Sh*t Outta Your Drunk Daddy - Nashville Pussy
  18. Ah ok. I’ll have to take another look at the manual, I don’t recall seeing anything about that
  19. Currently loving the FrankenJazz -> Darkglass Anagram -> Darkglass Microtubes -> Barefaced BB2 Nice bright, slightly gritty sounds with thump
  20. That's the sound of victory.
  21. This is what I ended up with - the turntable sounds great and Mrs Dinger and I are enjoying our vinyl collection again. I had forgotten (or perhaps not realised) how lifelike an LP can sound. Dual 505 > Arcam Alpha 9 > Gale speakers on Atacama stands. And an IKEA "HiFi Rack". It brings me great joy.
  22. No need to get excited, though. I was just pointing out that adjusting any one setting does change the perception of the overall sound, so touching at 'treble' (or whatever...) would naturally lead to touching elsewhere, such as volume, to compensate. The overall sound changes if one changes any single element of that sound. That's all. Peace.
  23. Today
  24. Can’t say it’s the right book but it could be from either of these, maybe, Essential Music Theory for Electric Bass- Mel bay, or Music Theory for the Bass Player-Ariane Cap
