Please share your experience of the Ampeg PF-50T
Beer of the Bass replied to ossyrocks's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had a 100 watt Carlsbro valve PA head that (with a similar amount of cab) would stay fully clean at the sort of volumes where the PF50T is starting to get grindy. But for some styles, the sound of a valve amp sailing close to the wind is fun, and the portability, more useful EQ and DI outputs of the PF50T are good to have. The Carlsbro got left at home for a lot of gigs just because it was a heftier lump and sound guys tended to just want a DI in front of it anyway. -
Ernie Ball getting into the string mute game
LeftyJ replied to PinkMohawk's topic in Accessories and Misc
Interesting, I'm curious about this! Doesn't look very practical, in that it needs to be woven in, alternating over and under the strings so it's not something you place onto your bass on the fly like say a Nordymute. But it does look like a nice and simple concept that shouldn't be too expensive. Long & McQuade lists it for 7.99 Canadian dollars! And there's a guitar version too, that comes in a set of 3 (in 3 different widths for varying degrees of muting) for 7.99 as well. Not sure why the bass version costs the same as a set of 3 guitar mutes though. -
Yeah, I use the Finger style preset at home, even though hi play with a pick. My M-Vave Chocolate finally arrived yesterday. Easy enough to set up and it makes a big difference to the GP-5. not quite as versatile as I had hoped, but exactly what I need for rehearsals. I have FS 1 set to engage Drive + NR, FS2 engages Modulation (be it Phaser or Chorus) + EQ, and 3 + 4 scroll through patches. Ive not bothered with the other two switches (E+F). The Amp sim is left on but no Cab sim. I use the EQ block with modulation more to control any volume changes than EQ, although it does help with the Phaser by lowing the low a tiny bit as well A bit disappointed that I have to power the M-Vave for the Host side to work, but as it will run off a phone charger or power bank, and power the GP-5 its not a big deal.

Yeah I still think it’s underpowered for loud bands as I found 100w valve the best minimum amp size for room to spare and not goosing the input gain ! -
High Quality 3/4 DB Gigbag - suggestions?
Burns-bass replied to Happy Jack's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I'm not suggesting you use them or promoting their business, I'm just saying I have one and it's good. -
Excellent stuff, @agedhorse Andy. I'd like to look at that, if only Rebecca (UK office) would actually get back to me as promised!!!

I have spent the last couple of days going over my transcription of Jeff Berlin's bass part for 'Fainting In Coils'. I was looking at it as part of my own practice regime and noticed some errors that needed addressing so I thought it would be an easy thing to do. Of course, I did that one originally a few years ago and, this time, I was able to put the original track through MOISES and I can hear every detail in a way that I couldn't before. As a result, I can hear even more mistakes and the whole exercise has taken longer than I expected. It has also left me thinking that I probably need to do this with ALL of the pre MOISES charts, especially the Jeff Berlin ones!

High Quality 3/4 DB Gigbag - suggestions?
Happy Jack replied to Happy Jack's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Their website currently offers only a 1/4-sized Upright Bass bag. 🙄 https://www.tkl.com/product-type/bags/ Sadly, their website is a bit of a joke. The 'Find A Dealer' section contains more mis-spellings of US State names than I have ever seen before and the links don't work, plus there's no pricing info at all. Apart from that, we're all good. -

Took mine to rehearsal on Monday. Found them to be very noisy when not playing. I suppose it could have been interference on the channel I was on but didn't have time to mess around and try other ones. Replaced it with a cable and all quiet as a mouse. -

Rounds for me. I used to use DR Hi-Beams but lately I use DR Sunbeams(nickel plated) on my Fretless Wal. On my Safran semi acoustic fretless I use La Bella Black nylon to come as close as possible to an upright sound.

High Quality 3/4 DB Gigbag - suggestions?
Burns-bass replied to Happy Jack's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I recently picked up a 7/8 bass and it came with a TKL gigbag. Never heard of them but it’s bloody brilliant. -
You are probably right since I have it set quite subtle so even when I have the Exp fully open the trail will disapear quicker than I thought. Maybe other owners/users can chime in and set it straight for us.

Depends on the sound and feel you want. There is no right answer. Only the right answer for you.
