I've never thought to use F hole blockers. I'm very new to the world of double bass.

If only my life was that interesting! Tonight I'm playing a gig in... Fraserburgh. "The Broch". Biggest shellfish port in Scotland, I'll have you know...

Recently got back in to playing bass and have a few gigs coming up. Ive had to relearn a lot of stuff, but surprised at how well I remember it. H2H is one of those ive played 1000's of times (we still do it in my main band where either play keys), but last nigh i isolated the bass from all the songs im learning to give me a chance to play along with the originals without a bass line there. When I listened to this bass line it sounded different to how ive been playing it. I check UGT and YT and everyone seems to play it the same way as I do. It's the run ups in the verses. E, F#, A, B that repeats at the end of every second bar. The isolated bass track sounds like he is playing G# instead of A. Cant believe it's taken me decades to realise this. It sounds wrong got me only because im used to playing the A. all the tabs and videos ive seen also play the A. Can anyone confirm the above? I know the audience won't notice etc, but if it's wrong its wrong. This is the stem taken directly from the single version https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/7gqwmalcjdpxj099vzd4p/Untitled-4_1-02-Bass-.7.wav?rlkey=3ka7ez6kfprk6gbv9vcqkvok0&st=434zn5ji&dl=0

Yup. Filing the nut slots carefully (don't hurry, take your time) should fix it.

I’m having a big clear out of basses, strings and pedals. Pretty much anything that I am no longer going to be using so that I can reduce my collection to just 1 main bass, a back up and the pedals that I need. I bought this immediately prior to taking a year out from playing so it's never seen a gig since I bought it and still has whatever flatwounds were on it when I bought it. I had one of these bass in the early 90s and fancied another. Plus it was a cheap way to remind myself that I'm not very good on fretless and to stop eyeing up other fretless basses on the marketplace 😂 It has marks here and there consistent with a 34 year old bass and the volume and tone controls are a bit scratchy but I never noticed any noise when playing, only if you let a note ring out and then turn those controls. I will be supplying a gig bag with this as it didn't come with one. Looking at all of the other basses I'm listing it looks like I must have bought a job lot of Thomann gig bags as they appear next to each bass 🤔😁 I think that this is the lightest bass I have coming up for sale at a positively featherweight 7.8lbs. Collection preferred but I am happy for you to arrange a courier as I have plenty of packaging materials to ensure that this is well packed.

I’m having a big clear out of basses, strings and pedals. Pretty much anything that I am no longer going to be using so that I can reduce my collection to just 1 main bass, a back up and the pedals that I need. Bought brand new earlier this year I think 🤔 this is a 2023 Fender Player Precision, going by the serial number, in Seafoam Green with Pau Ferro fretboard. I fancied a set of Bartolinis after watching a video with Freddie Washington so went the whole hog and paired them with a Six String Supplies prewired solderless harness. I wanted to have the option to return the bass to stock if needs be so I removed the original scratchplate with the pots still intact, even going as far as to remove the bridge to allow me to thread the earth wire through without having to desolder it. This is a replacement scratchplate that I bought for it. I also had a set of Hipshot Licenced Ultralites so fitted these as well. I don’t actually think it has left the house since I bought it and as such is in mint condition. Although it’s not one I’ve gigged, I am going to miss it. It’s such a stunning looking bass. The weight of this lovely bass is 8.2lbs. I have a few options depending on what the buyer wants: For the bass as you see it, along with the original tuners, pickups, scratchplate, case candy and a brand new gig bag I would like £600 £550 gets you either the Ultralites or the Bartolini pickup included – plus the gig bag and original parts depending on what option you go for. £500 for the bass returned to stock, still including the brand new gig bag. Collection preferred but I am happy for you to arrange a courier as I have plenty of packaging materials to ensure that this is well packed.

Pretty much anything that I am no longer going to be using so that I can reduce my collection to just 1 main bass, a back up and the pedals that I need. I have always loved single coil P basses but I am never going to have the opportunity to play this live so I may as well let it go to a good home. Used for 1 gig in 2023, it's pretty much in mint condition, right down to the fact that the plastic is still on the scratchplate. It also comes fitted with a set of Ernie Ball 2810 flats that I had already bought for a 5 string. Collection preferred but I am happy for you to arrange a courier as I have plenty of packaging materials to ensure that this is well packed.

Running a Phil Jones Double Four BG75 from USB power

The cable I bought is rated for 20v 5a. Not particularly bothered if it doesn't last for hours as I won't be gigging with it or doing any serious rehearsing, it's just something I already own so it would be nice to get a battery powered amp for the price of a cable. -

Ok so ive given up for now on this. It may or may not work, problem would, but at this price im not going to chance it until ive tried a few cheaper options. -
I like DR Sunbeams because they seem to lose the initial zing quickly and then stay in that 'ideal place' for a long time. I like flats, various types, but none feel like a substitute for older rounds, they just do their own thing. Having said that, Ernie Ball Cobalt flats are probably the most round-like flatwound string I've tried.

I'd probably pay £80 for the excuse to learn a load of new songs and gig them with new people!

The 2%-5% handling fee thing is easily dealt with. On the rare occasions I encounter it I just add the same percentage to the band's fee, I tell the booker about it in advance, and I tell them why I'm doing it. I've never once had push-back on that. The people I'm dealing with routinely agree with me that it's fair, and of course it's not their money. If they've booked a band at £300 they're hardly going to switch you off because the fee is now £306. -
To be fair, it's quite easy to put dots in the right place and remove and fill in the wrong ones. Definitely worth doing if the bass is otherwise great!

Running a Phil Jones Double Four BG75 from USB power

20,000 mAh sounds impressive except mAh stands for milliampere-hour. That means a more sensible/honest rating is 2 Ah. That well may be compatible, but you want to be sure of it, and that the USB cable is rated for at least that. -
They feel like they're made of helium. Personally I'd go for the longest scale you can find, if you go fretless (23-25" feels ok to me, less than that it gets tricky, but fretted is fine). I'd also consider one of the GoldTone offerings. I have an M23 fretless, solid body, and it's pretty cool. They also have hollow body versions for even lighter propositions.

A benefit of this is not then spending your share straight back over the bar, so you end up with actual money, albeit at a later date.
