Using column PA speakers as stage monitors?
Beedster replied to Beedster's topic in PA set up and use
Decent point, but IMO we do Jack, we gigged without monitors last time out and both drummer and keyboard player struggled to hear the vocals and guitar (although to be clear, although they were probably the only two people in the venue if not the entire postcode who couldn't hear the guitar..... . If the set were more straight forward I think we'd get away with it, but we're doing Odelay by Beck in which a lot of changes in rhythm that also involve keyboard shenanigans and samples are cued by specific lyrics, and even in the rehearsal room - in which the sound is way easier to work with than the venue in question - the drummer is struggling to hear the vocals well. -

I've been round the loop and back with plugins and FX. Installed tons of VST's and spent months experimenting, but now have very few. I work in reverse too. Used to tweak to find something interesting. Now I imagine the result and design how to achieve it, and often end up somewhere interesting in between.

Agree, it`s getting to the point where at some gigs it decimates pretty much all the other instruments.

I know the feeling.

Absolutely. It will be really useful. Perhaps it's that I've done so much tweaking over the decades, I'm all tweaked out for now.

I asked Thomann and they said that the power section was the same on the current version. -
Man - I would have loved to see that gig!

Anyone have the Supergrass article from Bass Player?

Caught By The Fuzz was the best song of that Brit rock scene at the time. I'd rate them well above Blur (boring) and Oasis (a bit crap) That Wembley gig was amazing. I'm not a huge Foo Fighters fan but to see them with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones was very cool plus Dave on drums is always a treat. -

The thinking behind his is that one can literally try out the features for oneself, tweaking in real time to see if the device works, rather than people having someone else make the decision for them. For people who just want to use existing presets, they can simply load them up into Soundcheck and audition them to hear if they provide inspiration/usability and cut out the middleman.

I saw Rod Stewart at Ashton Gate in Bristol a couple of years ago. The bassist was using a vintage sunburst P bass. You couldn't hear it at all. I saw Donny Benet this Saturday. Again, P bass. the mix was better but his bass was noticeably less audible than when I saw him previously using a PJ F Bass. The snare and Bass drum were incredibly loud - judging by how softly the drummer was playing he seemed to be aware of it too. The best sounding gig I've seen recently was Mike Stern with Hadrien Feraud on bass and Dennis Chambers on drums. Hadrien and Mike just went through their amps with no IEMS - great sound - everything was crystal clear. Of course I'm aware how such a set-up wouldn't work on a bigger stage.

I do. Obviously there’s some overlap between sounds but each brings something a little different.

I had a look. All very interesting but seems a lot of bother. I generally look for gear and FX reviews on youtube. Youtube makes it quick and easy to find demos, and make comparisons to similar products. Also some give very honest and reliable reviews that help to understand how inspiring and useable the sounds are? I suspect the Source Audio marketing team won't like me very much.

The modern approach of having the kick drums amazingly loud is so annoying. It just kills everything else in the same freq range. Seems to be infecting more and more genres too. It used to just be modern metal, but now it's everywhere.
