  1. Past hour
  2. The latest bit of wood is bought and drying in preparation for a future build; a lovely bit of Lebanese Cedar that smells gorgeous.
  3. I don't think you have a legal leg to stand on - see https://johnpye.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/John_Pye_Auctions_TC.pdf section 7. Although unlike Gardiner Houlgate, they don't give you an option to request a condition report. Gardiner Houlgate say for any mains-powered electrical item "*Please note: Gardiner Houlgate do not guarantee the full working order of any electrical items. Do not assume that this lot or any other electrical item is fully working. Please ask for a condition report before placing any kind of bid", which I have done for various items - a typical report for an amp is "This item is in good working condition. No pot noise or crackles."
  4. Also a Subsequent 25. Modulation into delay into reverb. Nothing else that beast needs. The Canvas line injector serves some good utility - the effects here are stereo, so it gives me a steroid out to the desk, but also lets me sum to mono via the thru so on stage monitoring or if I just need to rehearse with a bass amp. I use this on the tabletop next to the synth, not on the floor.
  5. Looks absolutely stunning. Always love the look of these modern iterations, burny/esp, indie, retrovibe etc I get all the spiel about protecting his brand and all that but an import ric would sell like crack. I guess he just doesn't like money! And cue the flames
  6. It's about bass guitar players specifically, thanks for your help!
  7. These are £131 on Thomann at the moment. Rude to say no really!
  8. You are retaining the tension of the E A and D and losing the tension of the G BUT most B strings are of a similar tension to a G string; ergo the overall tension remains relatively similar.
  9. If this thing had block inlays I don't think I'd be able to resist for even a second... So close to my perfect bass! Will be keeping an eye on it for sure. GLWTS!
  10. The Charcoal Frost for me, although maybe not - there's no Jazz. 😢
  11. Done. @BassslapperMy only question is whether this is aimed at bass guitar or double bass players as the musculoskeletal demands are different! Good luck with your thesis.
  12. Today
  13. Empire Music first out of the gate as always. 😊
  14. I've got a Levy's 4" with rawhide on the inside on a Yam that I can transfer. I shall check out Harvest.
  15. I’m not sure it looks stock to me. I know that there were a few hardware options open. The control plate is apparently a different size from the standard StingRay so not an easy replacement part to source.
  16. I would say, get a better strap. Mine is fine with a wide Hofner leather strap and it barely moves more than an inch or so. As a side note, I used Hofner straps on quite a few basses as an ironic joke about how awful their basses are and why McCartney isn't my favourite bass player. Playing a Status Buzzard with a Hofner strap? Next level irony awards to me please. Since then, I've moved to Harvest and they're brilliant, but the irony meter has been substantially reduced.
  17. Hi, I’m not sure what the gear ratio is - I’ll try to find out. Each tuner weighs 61g and the bushing outside diameter is 12mm. Cheers
  18. Oddly enough John Pye auctions have just come back and as expected have washed their hands of the situation. Distance selling regs do not apply, so I'll be in touch with their local trading standards for selling dangerous goods. Doubt anything will come of it but if nothing more I can make a fuss. If anybody has any other suggestions that might make their life legally difficult please pipe up. Lesson learnt never to use them again Rob
  19. A recent new addition (expensive double bass) means that I need to sell some things that I'm not using and sadly this 1977 Musicman Stingray is next on the chopping block (and indeed, is the last one to go). This is all original and was purchased from the lovely team at Moto Music. You can find a comprehensive selection of images here: https://motomusic.co.uk/products/music-man-stingray-with-maple-fretboard-natural-1978?_pos=3&_psq=stingray&_ss=e&_v=1.0 I have the bass in my possession (it's literally behind me now) and can take any additional images you may want to see. The bass is in excellent condition and is an amazing sounding and playing bass. It's a great collectible, too, with values rapidly rising. It's a slab body with no contour. It has the sealed pre-amp and The frets are pencil thin, which is a feature of the early Stingrays. It plays wonderfully well and has an even action all the way up and down the neck, but it would be remiss of me not to mention this. The case that came with the bass wasn't really fit for purpose but I will purchase a suitable hard case for it (or take some cash off the price to compensate you). Collection and a chance to check it out is recommended. I'm based in Bristol and work for myself, so that's not a problem. I can post this, but we would need to agree a courier and pay for insurance, so expect to pay around £75 for this (if you're based in the UK). I think I've priced this fairly at £3395, which is 20% less than shop prices, but I'm happy to discuss it. Not interested in trades (as the expensive double bass is here!).
  20. I've not opened it yet. I'm still awaiting the response from the auction house. I did ring up an authorised Headrush repair company in Leeds and it's £90 just to look at it plus whatever is needed to fix it plus me dropping it off (or sending to and fro via courier). If a new amp section is needed then I can easily see that being £100 and that plus £90 plus £20 x 2 for delivery moves this to circa £220 for repair which makes it not cost effective. So if I get no joy from the auction house, then I'll open it up and have a look. My money is on the transformer burning out but what do I know Lets see what the auction house says. It makes no mention of the fact it doesn't bloody well work and tripped my fuseboard. Thankfully it caused no other damage. I'm not hopeful and am expecting to write it off. Thanks for the suggestions.. Rob
  21. I like it a lot. Previously was using a Helix, though the Noble preamp replica most often when recording as I struggled with the amp options. I also sometimes used Logic amps, often with the Helix Noble, but again I wasn’t that fussed with them either. This plugin works for me as I like the tone of the AG amps, but also find the others useful. And the cabs work well for me too. I was debating the spend, but the ease of use and instant ‘better than what I have’ made it a quick no brainer for me. I expect other people’s opinions may vary.
  22. It’s a left over from double bass gamba origins. The set up including the new bridge on the GagIiano was the work of the late great Roger Dawson. I remember that he said Rinat asked for modern 4 string spacing on the 3 string bridge. The bridge on the Da Salo is reputedly the original that was in place when Dragonetti played it. That style of bridge was not just used on 3 string instruments, here is an ancient 4 string bridge. The holes in this bridge were for a gut string restraint tied to the tailpiece, to keep the bridge in place when tuning.
