There’s also a loose red wire in here…. which I assume goes against the live contact where the circuit board slots in? It is definitely meant to be loose, it hasn’t come off anything. It only popped up when I pulled out the circuit board/trim pot insert to clean it

When I'm bored, I do a new build. This is my latest. Poplar P-Bass body (i was inspired to use Poplar when I found out that the new Pino Stingrays would use this wood) Rothko and Frost Paisley Paper (over £33 for each sheet for the front and rear!!! Aaaagh!!) Custom wound pickup CTS pots Roasted flamed maple neck - i used white mother of pearl side dots to make them easier to see against the darkened maple when gigging. Nitrocellulose lacquer used on the body and the neck Lollipop tuners

So I just got myself a lovely Warwick Streamer five string, and have tried to use it twice at church to not much success. Firstly the extra string destroys my intuitive landing on the right notes (without thinking), and then I'm finding the notes below E so low that I can't hear them properly. So this week my aim it to play almost everything on the four "normal" strings, and only bring in the fifth on the rare occasion when something might want a lower accent of some sort... but this feels like not making the most of the instrument... Does anyone else use a five string for church/gospel? How do you adapt from playing on a four?

I picked this very sorry B2a up.  Filthy dirty, really horrible it was (it’s clean now). It’s missing its jack assembly. I assume that a telecaster style jack plate will work, but the suggested barrel jack absolutely does not fit in there. So I ordered a regular style stereo jack, which I hope will work. Question is, I have two loose wires, blue and white. I assume that there should be 3 for a stereo jack? Anyone have one of these that can be bothered to open it up and take a couple of pics for me? 👍🏻

They've stopped trading. The website and Facebook pages are down and Marc has went off Facebook too. I was in the market for another cab and Bass Direct told me the cabs weren't being made anymore.

Ooohh an NG3 by looks of it. I had the NG2 version and liked it a lot. Went back to 4 strings and didn't need it. Great basses. Dave -
100% agree. That annoys the heck outa me. Also those phones that only take 30 secs of a song and always miss the bass solo. 😂 Dave

I would check out the PB70 first. Look on the back of the neck and see whther it has smaller tuner plates or larger. If they're larger (bigger than the Hybrid), I'd go with that, it's the PBUS model and has an alder body. I've not owned a Hybrid but I know the neck of the PB70 very well. It's my favourite and falls between a 'standard' Precision and a Jazz. However, if you can try both, buy the one that feels best. You can't go wrong with Fender Japaan.

Had the issue with the Mesa cabs but since changing to a Barefaced 212 cab its amazing the difference. Its wide dispersion angle means i can stand right in front of the cab and still hear it clearly. Dave

Weird one last night; A prize giving evening for Dominos players at a hotel in Derby (the table-top game, not the pizzas!) Our newly jigged Duo set got a surprise early outing. Pity about the 30 degree heat. You could have wrung my shirt out into a bucket afterwards! Out tonight with the Everly's & Friends live tribute show at the Alvaston Hall Warners near Crewe. Just need to remember all of the Everlys/Buddy Holly/Jerry Lee Lewis numbers that I haven't played for two months! Perfect weather for a three-piece suit. Obvs.

I'm not sure I've ever heard of a 'Golden Era' for Fender pups, other than vintage pups were hand wound and there was variance. Stock pups in most instruments are pretty much mass produced, machine wound and don't vary. You do get certain instruments with specific installs but a MiJ 2012 bass it'll be bog standard. <edit> @Doctor J beat me to it.

"Golden era" is generally a load of s***e used in ads to make the seller's instrument appear better than the countless other versions of the same instrument available, but it is entirely made up. There hasn't been a bad era of Japanese instruments, they have been consistently excellent since the late 70's. If you can, try both instruments and see which you prefer. If you can't, pick one and don't approach owning it with the notion that something needs to be replaced before you even get your hands on it. Play it, get to know it. If something isn't working out then, by all means, consider replacing parts but at least play it first and understand what needs to be replaced and why.

Provided that you don't weaken the bridge area, it is unlikely to make any perceptible difference to the sound. And even those cases where the mods are so extreme that it does make a difference to the sound, it is just that - a difference, not a detriment. So, unless the bass is absolutely the best sound that you've ever experienced regardless of make, cost, type...then go for it. A bass that is too heavy is a bass that doesn't get played very often - if at all...

Hello, I start to play bass and I have two nice offers: 1. Fender Japan Hybrid II Precision Bass VWH 2021 2. Fender Japan PB70 from 2012 both have the original pickups. I saw there was a “golden era” around 2012, although I trust the Japanese also nowadays. my dilemma is that the 2021 model is newer. should I buy the 2012 model and replace pickups? The built quality is very important to me.

I thought the LTD 133 Rays were only available in red blue or black. I don't remember seeing any white ones.

Vintage 1980's Westone Thunder 1A Active Electric Bass from Matsumoku Factory, Japan - Fretless. Manufactured between 1981 and 1989. Serial number 4071308 Check out the Westone website as it holds useful information. Different eras of this iconic bass but otherwise very much the same instrument (other than being fretless + active). This f/less bass has been converted from an originally fretted bass. There are the usual signs of pitting/wear to the original metallic hardware (SEE PHOTOS). Pots run smooth with no crackle currently when played. Knobs pitted and aged. There are signs of surface scratching and small dings etc. as photographed. instrument has a basic, somewhat tatty, generic hardcase. Price includes UK 24/48h courier delivery-
