  2. For sale is my Fender Player ii Modified Active Precision in Metallic Forest Green. I bought it brand new in July as a backup to my main bass for playing Glastonbury this year but in the end I didn't need to take one and it stayed at home. It's never left the house so has never been gigged or even been to a rehearsal and has only been played briefly at home a couple of times. It still has the original Fender strings on it but I have removed the film that was covering the scratchplate. The bass is in mint condition and sounds and plays really well but there is a tiny little mark near the neck pocket near the bottom heal but it can't be seen without looking for it. I really struggled with what to buy for a backup and had my heart set on the Fender Vintera ii Telecaster bass but after comparing it to this bass in Anderton's, I was blown away by it and ended up buying it. The colour is also amazing and it comes with the Fender gig bag that came with the bass and the tags/truss rod key. I'm a fretless bassist 99% of the time and as I'm not playing fretted in anything and I'm unlikely to be, then I should really let this go to a home where it was be used and enjoyed. These are £949 at Andertons so I've priced it at £770. Collection and trial is available from GU15 or courier at buyers cost.

  4. Hi folks. Thinking of selling my CW-2. According to Dawn @ Status - this was initially built/allocated for Chris Wolstenholme himself. Colour is Genesis Aurora - a brilliant purple/blue switch. It’s got red front LEDs too. Dawn advised that they only made 2 other CW-2s in Genesis aurora finish, both were headless 5 strings with white LEDs. So, this apparently might be the only 4 string in this finish/LED combo to even exist. I can fire over the email from her too that confirms this. I absolutely love this bass, but I’m preferring my stingrays at the moment. It’s far too good to be left in a case. I can’t see any marks on it. The colour shift is amazing. Based in Aberdeen, Scotland. Happy to consider shipping (I have a few boxes left from recent purchases). Probs UK only I’m afraid. Given the above info and recent CW-2 sold prices - I’m thinking £3,850. PS - forgot to stick a post it on the bass. Sorry.
  5. U.S.A Ampeg SVT CL in very good condition for it's age. Selling to fund smaller backline. The head has recently been fitted with a brand new set of 6 power tubes and has been given a full inspection and service ( see pictures. I purchased a fitted flight case that will be included in the sale. The Frequency knob is missing but I have ordered a replacement and will fit at point of sale.

  6. Option C - bass was bought on Basschat and then gets sold elsewhere. Which is something I think I've done, but not for profit, it was so I'd be pretty certain that whatever it was I wanted to get shot of would be gone in a week.
  7. Yep all sorted and I was simply asked, 'do you know this stuff'. As for "arrangements"? We played everything as per the recording unless there was an obvious vamp where you could have fun. Back in the 80's there was only ever one version of a tune unlike today when you look online and are bombarded by a thousand different versions. Plus if your all good you can now and again change things in the studio, tho I don't really remember it happening much.
  8. Often you'll get a call in the morning to play the gig that evening. You're not getting a rehearsal, you'll be lucky to get a set list. If the band says "We do this exactly as the original,", nine times out of ten, you'll have played it with a band before who also play it "exactly as the original", and neither bands will.
  9. If your amp has some method of screwing the dovetail into it, then its just a case of fiddling with the numbers to work out how to make it all fit. The design is easy to scale in each dimension. It also requires the base of it to be attached in a fairly rigid way to the cabinet. As I'm making the Basschat 8" cabs, I don't mind putting six screws in (which is two screws too many really) into the back of the cabinet. The other method would be to attach a little sledge like below, the front would go over the top of the cab, the amp would sit in the middle and the back would stop it slipping off. Immediate issues would be if you cab has a top handle, does the cab have a nice front edge you can use, would the back lip interfere with cables?
  10. I once ordered a Yamaha JP II Patittuci B-Stock at one of the biggest shops in southern Germany. The bass had tons of dead spots and small scratches! Don‘t know what they did to this poor bass. Because of that I had to send it back, but at my own expense unfortunately! But most of the time B-Stock is as good as new!
  11. Makes you realise that less choice back then equalled less to worry about.
  12. Why on earth would you race off and start practising songs that you played in a previous band? If you're doing this properly you don't leave anything to chance. You don't start your homework until you get a set list, keys, YouTube videos, MP3's or verbal information regarding the source material and the arrangements of every song. It's unprofessional to turn up to a rehearsal without knowing all of those things. In my experience an unprofessional rehearsal means an unprofessional band and for me that puts the whole gig in doubt.
  13. Yea it’s still for sale. Sent you a personal message.
  14. AFAIK yes, 1985 is relatively 'late'. My burst one in the pic further up the thread is according to Chris 'very early' he dates that as 1979 and the blue one at 1980 or '81. Here is a link to an article reviewing an Overwater with Armstrongs but in the same position as the earlier Lawrence pickups. A transitional model I suppose. It does mention in the review that Chris has been building this shape of bass for some time. https://www.muzines.co.uk/articles/overwater-bass/6557?utm_source=chatgpt.com The article dates from June 84.
  15. I'd quite like to keep it blonde by the way
  16. Folks, I bought an new but unfinished 4/4 body/neck from a German firm in 2015, I built it up and have been gigging it since then and am thinking it's about time I applied a finish. I want to oil not varnish, what's the best bet?
  17. They would say that wouldn't they. Anyway, it was June 6th 2025, and I missed it, so I'll wait until 2035 now.

  19. Ah a journey I have been on recently but in the other direction. At one time, most of my basses were five string actives, which over a period of time I ‘upgraded’ to John East J-Retro or Unibass preamps. I had my sound. Then a tribute sort of gig came along which required a P bass, so in came a very nice early passive Lakland Skyline P with the Lindy Fralin pickups, quickly followed by a Fender Tony Franklin fretless P bass (again passive) for an electric Americana project, and that was it, I was hooked on passive tone, so much so that I built (assembled) a passive five string PJ. Passive basses became my main gigging instruments of choice. After about two years, I was feeling guilty leaving my John East equipped Overwater five string J series, my previous workhorse bass, unloved in its case. So I whipped it out for a gig and boom - I was back in love with active basses. For me, I think passives record better, but there is no substitute for the oomph of an active bass when you are playing live. What has changed is that I am now cutting the bass back much more and really dialling in the middle to get a really nice, almost passive, tone but with more balls. It’s funny how your tastes change over time isn’t it?
  20. Yes it is.
  21. Once again, Bill goes above and beyond with advice and help. Mods, please make him a Grand Master. He probably won't be fussed, but it's the least BC can do.
  22. Were you coming along to a band where the arrangements were already sorted? Did they give you charts or a recording of the band playing their versions?
  23. I don't need these and they're taking up room, so let me know what you're happy to pay for them and I"ll chuck them in the post.
