Spotify will carry on until one of its rivals decides to offer a free service with all the features of a free Spotify account. The problem with the other Streaming services is that you can't easily share a link or a playlist because unless the person also has an account with the relevant service they can't easily access it. As an artist I make far more money out of Spotify, through being on several popular playlists, than all the other streaming services with higher per-play rates put together.

About the only thing the 'SX' version has in common with the SGC Nanyo Bass Collections is the shape.

This was the vid and this was how the signal chain was described: "Derek is playing a 1963 Fender Precision bass with La Bella Low Tension Flats and a Nordstrand Nordy Mute. The signal goes through a Noble Preamp DI into a slightly pushed 1970s Ampeg B 15 and then a Neve console. Simple. Classic. Sounds killer".

For sale, two sets of RS66S short-scale bass strings. These are stainless steel rounds, and according to RotoSound provide a 'Bright hard hitting tone'. One set is new and in its original pack. The second set was fitted on Sunday, then removed and thoroughly cleaned (with surgical spirit) on Tuesday after less than 2 hours of use. The strings really don't suit either the bass (a Spector Shorty) or me. The used set is cut for 2 a side (as above a Spector Shorty). There's a reasonable amount of winding for each post (especially the E and A) so some flexibility. The cheapest I've seen these strings in the UK is £21 including shipping. The price for both sets listed here, including shipping within the UK, is £20. Any questions, please just let me know.

The ones I've been to had bands who I know normally sound good and none of the competing bands were inexperienced. They were all pretty good acts

Over the years, I've done 3 gig ones and one on-line one. IME if there are "judges" they are mostly window dressing, and the winner will always be the band that turns up with the biggest number of vocal fans. So as long as your daughter's band are reasonably competent what they really need to do to win is muster their every single one of their friends and family to come along and make a lot of noise ideally whilst wearing T-shirts for their band. Having said that only one of the four I did was absolutely pointless, and that was the one I did with the band that went on to be the most successful of all the bands I've played in, although back when we entered it was still early days, and we hadn't quite found our performance style or image. It was also the only one where the sound was uniformly pretty awful throughout the evening. The other two gig-based competitions were at decent venues with excellent PA systems. For the other three, one got me a gig on the main stage at Rock City, and the other two resulted in my band being on fairly high-profile compilation albums. The on-line competition was interesting, because it was to a much larger extent based on non-partisan voting, and as a contestant you also had to rate the other bands in order to boost the chances of your band being heard and therefore attracting votes. When the competition finished my band came 8th overall (out of over 1000 entries from all over the world) and came top in the Dance Music sub-category. As a result we were included on the best-of compilation CD which picked us up a lot of new fans and had several management companies interested in the band.

They are all sorts of reasons to not have them. But they serve a purpose in that it means that people get up on stage and actually do it. The sound will be pants because in general it is inexperienced musicians strutting their stuff with their bedroom curated TOOOOOONE. And often, by now, this is the only way for young bands to hit stages. So on balance, I think they are a good thing.

An excellent 6/12-stage phaser, being a clone of the revered Moogerfooger 103. I’ve just received a brand new exemplar from Andertons today as a replacement for one I bought a few months ago that had a loose connection. I’m on a drive to raise money due to unemployment so don’t even want to put this on my board. As yet I haven’t even opened it. I’m happy to leave it unopened or to open to test and photograph for the buyer (once payment is received) if desired. Price includes recorded UK postage. Stock photo for illustrative purposes.

My Gnome has a fan? I didn’t know that. It's never been an issue and I have wound it up to quite loud sessions and also quite quiet sessions. I leave it on for long times (days) as well in my small office. It's a complete non-issue for me, as I had no idea it even had a fan.
