Each of the output taps that I have used (4ohm and 8ohm) has a jack socket and a Speakon socket in parallel. I'll always use the Speakon socket (unless I have no other choice) and the plug locks into place on those. There is no impedance selector swith - I don't trust them!

Impending retirement means that I need to de-clutter, beginning with some of my beloved basses. This one is a cracker and was bought as my "forever" bass-sigh!. Although a short scale it it is a bit of a bulldog, by that I mean that it is solid and the chunky. It is also versatile bass with loads of punch and this one has the "premium" flame top. QSC CP12 Active PA Speaker 1000 Watts One of two - priced individually or for a small discount if sold as a pair. This speaker is as new and has not been used since purchase. It comes with additional QSC waterproof cover for outdoor use. Very powerful speakers however I’m downsizing and selling my larger portable PA gear. Street price is £579 cheapest I can find so this is a good saving. The covers cost an extra £67. The user manual is included. I have two of these for sale. I can knock off £40 if you buy the pair. Apparently, the Modulus made early necks were a myth (rrp of a modulus neck was almost as much as the rrp of the G Bass), and they are not actually carbon necks as marketed, they have a maple core with a carbon wrap. Still cracking basses for the money of course, but really interesting marketing choice from Peavey; the manual literally says it's a Carbon Graphite neck with no mention of it being mostly wood. Crazy but there you go. Still want it!

So many possibilities here. @SimonK has offered the first one. This will be mainly down to eq. What speaker are you using? It may be a case of you not hearing it on stage, but it is shaking the walls at the back of the pub! Finally, there's quite a lot going on with the controls of the amp. As new still sealed in packs, 3 sets available £10.50 per set including postage. I have been trying various brands of strings on a number of basses, whilst these are very nice I'm going to Dunlop's for my fretted Warwick. To my ears the Eden's seem similar to Rotosounds, maybe not quite as 'zingy' initially.

This is all super interesting and I’m mulling over carefully. Yes, I did sell the bass for £250 to my friend’s young son. He was/is chuffed to bits with it (the parts are worth way more individually and together make for a brilliant bass and he’s getting on with it great) and I’m really pleased it went to someone who is at the start of their musical life.

I had an early original SR which I played all thru the eighties which I was very attached to even tho it wasn't that great. Then one day in the late 90's I picked up a JV? Squire P bass. Sold the Ray a month later without any qualms at all. Which suggested to me that playability (tone feel etc) in an instrument kinda trumped my emotional attachment.

Not necessarily. It's not just about outright volume, but about where that volume happens in the frequency range. You need excursion, as Bill notes, to reproduce low frequencies at high level. You also need a well-designed cabinet that makes the most of the output from the driver(s). A properly ported cab' like the BF will do this better than a plain box like the Ashdown. 4x10s tend to be sealed boxes with drivers wired series/parallel - less efficient than ported designs and with less bass extension. If you look at cone area, with drivers of the same efficiency, a single 15 has more cone area than two 10s (176 sq in vs 157 sq in). So if that 15 has twice the excursion of the 10s (especially in a well-designed cab'), it will be louder and have better bass output than four of those 10s, because it can shift more air. If the 15 is more efficient than the 10s, the difference will be even greater.

I know you have suggested that a Markbass combo might be out of your price range , what about used ? I regularly use my older Markbass CMD121P for practice at home ( use seperate amp and cab out gigging) when compared to the various newer rumbles around the local rehearsal spaces , it blows their socks off in terms of clarity at volume . I have to say when I know were going to be playing in a place with a rumble 100 I commit to taking my own markbass as it can be frustrating as no matter what i do with the EQ they seem to stay very wooly as the volume goes up , it could be the way it reacts to my active bass rather than a passive fender style one ... but i wouldnt say i love the " tone shaping options" I used to have a bunch of behringer ultrabass combo's both the 800 and the 1200 i loved the kickback feature and they were very loud , but yes lacking in tone options A solution to do what you want on a budget could be to you use the power section on those Behringers bypass their EQ and use a more modern device like a valetone Gp5 or perhaps their more analogue dapper bass instead https://www.thomann.co.uk/valeton_dapper_bass_mini.htm , the Amp in port on the back will let you harness the poweramp section direcly bypassing the EQ if my old foggy memory serves
