  2. Hi does this go down in whole or half steps?
  3. There's always the Sandberg Lionel, I love mine though it's more of a modern P sound than an older school thump. a number of users on here have swapped to EMG Geezers on their Lionels for a more vintage tone.
  4. Great preamp pedal if you want that vintage Spector sound from a passive bass simple and effective .. in good condition and includes box .. bass direct have these at £285.00 + postage Looking for £170.00 inc uk postage Simple elegance in design and use is a goal with every product we create. The HL-1 HAZard LAMPS is made to do one thing: provide a simple solution to allow Spector bassist to switch to a favorite passive bass during a show without unbalancing the mix of the band. Period. There are no extraneous controls: you have a bass and treble knob just like you’d get on the Spector bass with an active preamp, and a stomp button. Even though we don’t need instructions, here are the steps to use the HL-1 HAZard LAMPS pedal. Plug in power. The unit requires either 9volts or 18volts from an external power supply. Do NOT use more than 18volts because you’ll let the magic smoke out and you’ll be the owner of a fantastic-looking paper weight. Plug your bass into the INPUT jack on the right side of the unit. We recommend the HAZard LAMPS be the first unit in your signal chain so that it is as close to a built-in preamp as possible. Plug the OUTPUT into your amp or other pedals in your signal chain. Turn the knobs to the desired EQ. There is a center detent at the 12 o’clock position that indicates the FLAT EQ position. The thickness of the dial markings indicate EQ zones: a. CCW (thin line) is EQ CUT. b. CW (thicker line) is EQ BOOST. c. CW (fat line) is the “fun zone” where a lot of Spector users tend to run their basses to get that sound. EQ in this range is often referred to as being “dimed.” Stomp the button to toggle the unit OFF and ON. If the LED is ON, the HAZard LAMPS is doing its thing.
  5. I have a short scale Maruszczyk Jake 4P 30. Styled like a P with a slightly scaled down body, albeit with the pickup more in the Mustang position. It has the Haussel PB4 pickup and to my ears sounds like the kind of vintage P tones I hear on records - caveat being that I've never had a full scale P bass so can only compare with what I hear in recordings. Prices on them seem to have increased significantly recently though. I got mine only just over a year ago from Bass Direct for £1250. They have a couple in stock now and since then the prices have gone up to £1700! Honestly that seems rather steep. I'd recommend one at £1250. It's a much harder sell at £1700.
  6. Palmer Wipper Passive Di box. £50 including UK postage.
  7. I use my best bass for anything bass related. No point having a best and not using it. To me most expense doesn't mean best, but I use my most expense bass as well (it's the same one in my case).
  8. One thing to consider with effects, is the correct order to get the tone you want. It's not always obvious what goes first etc, even if you know what effects are used. In this case something like the HX Strop is a lot easier to swap the order of the separate effects than a wired pedal board. Personally id try and do it all in the Stomp first.

  12. At my last gig the guitarist had various broken string/tuning problems in between songs and me and the drummer ended up busking various 70s TV themes to amuse the audience in the meantime. It became a bit of a thing as the night went on, and was a lot better than awkward silence and shuffling about onstage.
  13. These are underrated! The low and high controls are super handy on bass 👌
  14. 15. I've got a gig bag that can be included for free and have dug out this cardboard box that could be put within a bigger cardboard box (a bike box that I'd cut down) and padding if postage is preferred.
  16. A long story... scratching my itch for a semi-acoustic bass I got my mitts on a Hagstrom Viking in natty sunburst. After a good clean and a setup I slapped on some GHS medium Scale flats and got down to playing. The good - some nice plunky '60s tones. The bad - neck dive (OK with grippy strap), odd ergonomics - the brige is up near the centre of the body (20 frets to body neck) which means your right hand falls over the bridge - you have to shove everything to the right to get anywhere near the neck pickup. The worst selector switch - a rotary six way (A / A+B / B and same with coil splits) with chicken head knob - a right flimsy crackly mess. Replaced with a Switchcraft short toggle (binned the meh coil splits) - so much better. Didn't play it a lot TBH, but when bro came round for a soul jam it seemed appropriate - out came the Hagstrom showing a big ding at the lower body edge. Closer inspection shows the top coming away from the side - hmmm... I did not knock it, it's been safe in the rack - and I live alone with no pets... looks like the glue gave out under pressure? Out with the G cramps and leather pads but no way will the gap close without totally crushing the thing... So any ideas for a fix? Drip in CA glue to stabilise? Sand down the high part and attempt a finish touch up?
  17. I’ve had this but not as acute as your episode. For what it’s worth, I eventually had to see a consultant because it kept recurring in a milder form (and still does a bit when I get run down). She gave me these exercises to do which basically involve making yourself so dizzy that you nearly lose your breakfast. If you persevere, you eventually get your brain to compensate. It works. I could trust myself to ride a motorbike again and do all normal activities. These days, you probably don’t need to see a consultant, you can probably find the exercises on t’internet, e.g. https://www.entuk.org/patients/conditions/93/cawthornecooksey_exercises/ Good luck and recover quickly!
  18. I totally forgot to add that in , Thanks Clarky...

  22. Simple but very effective....
  23. Sometimes but not got anything booked in for the future. I've done all my travelling this summer unfortunately. I do have the box from the Ampeg 410 that has replaced this so I can see if it fits and then look at courier pricing.
  24. Yep. Contacted the all knowing Dave at Ashdown ...... Replacement bulb on its way. Fantastic product support as usual.!!! 👍
  25. I dropped a b******k. This is the bass part to the track 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' from the 2017 Django Bates album, 'Saluting Sergeant Pepper' with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band. There is no way to post the tune itself on here and the only way to hear it is to buy the album. Sorry! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/sgt-peppers-lonely-hearts-club-band-django-bates/
  26. What I love about these classic BB basses is how rock and roll they look. This BB300 is a really simple one-pickup bolt-on bass, yet with the speed knobs, reverse P pickup and heart shaped tuners...it just looks so classy. Love it!
  27. People the same age as us and into rock music. I should say some of our arrangements have more bite than the originals 😁
