I’ve seen the pictures of this on the auction site, it’s an interesting one that someone has used for a project, I do think the body and neck is original but the dot markers are strange , could it be a walnut finish and not mocha?, the extra hole in the pickguard would worry me as that could suggest extra routing under the guard for maybe active electrics, I’d ask for some pics, and one of the neck stamp if possible, with a decent bridge it might be ok but hard to tell without seeing it up close and playing it, good luck

Incidentally, I remember having a conversation with someone in a thread on here about GigRealm a few years ago. That person was recommending it really hard - presumably they had a stake of some sort in the system - while I was saying that it looked like a scam. Well, a couple of years ago I decided to test it - it is a scam. Avoid it like the plague. Not only are the gig offers on it really low pay, but most of them are probably fake - nothing ever seems to happen even in what look like the best circumstances. And your data gets sold to third parties even if you tick the infamous box stating that you don't want that. I had an angry exchange of emails with GigRealm when I started receiving all sorts of dodgy promotions to the email address I had created just for that site. Uber and Lyft especially would not leave me alone and invited me to use them at a discount in the US (!!). I had to demand GigRealm wipe all of my data off their database. So there's a lot of sh!t out there; however, I can see the reason why many chains have decided to use a payment system of some sort, and I accept that.

Probably a simple question here, a nut fell off one of my speaker cable ports in transit so I need a replacement, does anyone know if these are just 6.35mm socket nuts? (Like these). If so, do any high street shops sell these? I can order one online but it costs 11p, with £3.99 shipping which seems silly so if I could get hold of one locally it would be better.

Interesting. I actually aim to do our version, rather than exactly as a recording. The singer doesn’t sound like the original singer so why on earth should the band beat itself up over being exactly as a version. Which one is ‘right’? I learn the original and then do my thing, in this case in the verses as someone else said earlier. Lots of covers aren’t the same as the original, think skunk anansie, Eva Cassidy. That’s musicianship I envy…. as a punter I do sometimes wonder why don’t some players play well, within their competence, and use their musicianship rather than be a slave to a particular version. I’d rather the audience react positively to the groove than say that’s a good cover but the singers no Freddie, Mick Jagger or whoever else you want to name. So I refute ‘couldn’t bother to learn it properly’ and would replace it with play within your musical competence. I come from this view as a pianist who accompanies as well as a bass player. No way can I reproduce famous song accompaniments exactly. Should I give up because I can’t reproduce a full band?

It's a one-piece neck, so replacing the fingerboard is not that easy. And it would show immediately at the walnut trussrod plug, which would have its top cut off. Someone went to town on it by replacing the facedots (as can be seen on the detailed pictures further in this thread, it also shows no gluejoint at the headstock, so fretboard is original), and thus (locally) refinishing the fretboard. New nut is no real biggie. Frets do appear to me to be the original "low and wide" ones as were used after 1966. I don't see any tearout of the maple either that would suggest a refret. To OP: you can rest assured: the bones of the instrument (tuners, stringtree, neck (except position markers and possible new fretboard finish), body, neckplate (with its black backing plate) and likely the pickguard all check out for a 1974-1975 Precision Bass. It might be thrown together from parts sourced left and right (hurray for the modular design of Fender), but the parts do check out. Once in your possession, you can always remove the neck and search for a date-stamp, and maybe the potmeter codes. EDIT: the more I look at it, it might even be that the body finish is original as well. Prior to 1975, Fender used a rather light brown and very translucent colouring, before switching to a darker and almost opaque colouring (because then the wood didn't really show, so they could use more/uglier pieces of wood).

Whats the best way to clean beer out of a mixing desk? Probably says enough about how our gig went last night! 🙄 Our guitarist will need to give his pedalboard a good clean as well. This is not the first time we've had 'problems' at this venue so I'm going to suggest that we cancel the remaining gigs we have there. It's really not worth the hassle.

That system was called Invapay. Very unpopular with all bands, as we had to add the website's cut to our requested payment. Several years ago they moved to SAP Concur, which sort of works once you know how to deal with it. Except its terminology is absolutely arcane and I'm still wondering if that's because it's been transliterated from German or simply because it takes the p1ss. (It calls an invoice a receipt, etc. which I really hate.)

Ah, I wondered that! Is there any guidance on what to look for in a preamp? In my last acoustic group I went from my pedal board via a mixer to the PA, maybe a small (eg 2-3 channel) mixer would solve the problem ??

Not all pedal preamps are created equal! I've got several preamp pedals that happily drive an active speaker QSC K10 but I've recently become aware that not every pedal will be guaranteed to do this. I know the word 'impedance' is the incorrect term to use but effectively the output of the pedal needs to have enough juice to drive the amp section; you'd think being a preamp that this would be a given but apparently not!

Not a cheap solution but we have a pair of Bose F1s which ‘the whole band’ go through and I no longer need an amp. Had some nice comments about sound too from other bassists who have seen us play - when I was expecting ‘why haven’t you got an amp’. This is for a ‘pub situation’ so I can’t say (yet) if any of the ‘bassness’ would be lost in e.g. a larger hall.
