  2. Really useful, thanks. I’ve also heard good things about the Hevos stuff.
  3. Boss OC-2 in excellent condition complete with original box and instruction manual. Sounds mighty!

  4. You can do a limited fret and relief check without tools but a good quality notched straight edge and fret rocker are extremely useful. Press down on the first fret and also on the fret close to the neck heel where it joins the body, then check the gap between the string and 8th/9th fret. That will tell you if you have too much relief, a small gap is fine. Then play up the neck on every fret (on every string) to see if you encounter buzzing on certain frets, the problematic on will usually be the next one along when you get buzzing. Some more troubleshooting if your relief is ok and frets are level: -Put your ear close to the tuners to check if isn't comong from them. -Make sure the string windings around the tuner posts are low enough to give sufficient downwards pressure over the nut. -Check the nut slots are cut correctly, not too wide etc. They may be the correct height but a poorly cut nut can be problematic.
  5. This is where the old guys can remember going to see bands any or every night of the week. Happy days. Dave

  9. Which they ship inside another slightly bigger box. 😂
  10. Up for grabs is my Sonic Farm 2di4 valve Di. It has a upgraded vintage tube installed and I will include the original. Comes with a fitted hard case for easy transportation and security. Unused power cable also included. Cost with case and valve was over £900 offered at £550 including UK postage. Lightly used as an amp replacement when using iem at church and my function band. It has a subtle EQ section that fattens the bass sound and adds a little high frequency sparkle. https://sonicfarm.com/2di4-pentode-direct-box/ Link to Sonic Farm website above.

  12. Another great music shop in Newcastle was McKay's on Westgate Road. Tiny shop but full of second hand bargains. I bought my first practice amp from there, a Wem.
  13. both still available
  14. Same rule here at any Royal Canadian Legion club, you will be asked to remove your hat.
  15. I've never used Fat Beams but according to DR the construction process between them and High Beams are different resulting in a fuller sound. This is in concert with your description of each. High Beams are Sunbeams minus the nickel coating which is why I suggested them in a previous post. I didn't find them that rough at all though especially for stainless steel.
  16. I bought this a couple of years back and did it up. It was professionally set up and restrung but I am just not using it. We were playing 80s alternative songs on folk instruments BUT I quickly got sick of taking several instruments to gigs and seem to have settled on using less. I added the fitted case, bought brand new from Gear 4 Music. The action is pretty decent and these are loads of fun / easy to play. I have it strung G-D-A-E but you can tune it C-G-D-A or like the top 4 strings of a guitar. Happy to meet Swindon - Newbury way which can be discussed via DM. Thanks for looking.

  17. You mean to say the audiences are evolving and they're going to start being able to notice what notes I'm playing, so every mistake I make will be clearly audible? Oh god no.

  19. As you're already used to the quality and consistency if DRs I would think it's a good idea to stick with them. Personally no other string I've used comes anywhere near them. If you're looking for something brighter, the Hi Beams and Fat Beams are both excellent choices.
  20. Just to be clear the price I am asking is £3000. That being said I am sure anyone who might have an interest in a Bass of this quality and condition would drop me a message to negotiate.
  21. Warwick EMP Stainless coated bass strings. 40 60 80 100 £40 ono.
  22. This method is only to check the nut. if there’s a light tick at the 1st fret your nut is fine. Fret 3 is no influence of this method. i would now loosen the trussrod a bit, start with 1/4 of a turn (anti clockwise).
  23. The McLaughlin head made me think about this old chestnut that I played in a trio I led waaaay back. This is the head for a 12-bar blues in Bb from the 1991 Geri Allen album, 'The Nurturer'. It is called 'Batista's Groove' and it is a slippery little fellow. Give it a go and see what you think. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/batistas-groove-geri-allen/
  24. Yes, they've enough light for a small venue, though I tend to point them at the ceiling rather than at eye level. Back in the late 1990s I was part of a heavy rock DJing team. Our main lights were on a goal-post shaped tri-lite truss with 6x 300W halogen PAR56s, 4x 250W gobo projectors with moving-mirror style mechanism, 2x 250W moonflowers, fog machine and UV fluorescents. In comparison I can get the same amount of light from a bunch of lightweight and relatively cheap LED units. That said, even though MP3s were more efficient, I missed dropping the needle onto vinyl when we moved to laptops instead of turntables. In the same way there's something about the halogen PARs I miss - even though they were heavy, and lighting gel melted every few weeks and the bulbs would break and cost a small fortune to replace. But I'm sure this nostalgia would disappear within minutes of having to load that kit again
  25. Great thread @kwmlondon Really laughed a lot reading everyone's posts...😂😁🤣 What an irrational lot we are. Many of my irrational prejudices have been posted already, but the one that really grinds my gears that hasn't been mentioned so far is this one. It's social media or Basschat posts that we bassists share frequently about our upcoming gigs, with wording to the effect of... 'tonight's office' Or 'today's office' That come with a tasteful picture of some basses and a bass rig. OMG, that winds me up like nothing else because... It's not a f*#king office for f*#k's sake!!! 😡 It's a gig, a venue, a place where people congregate to do nice things (in the main)... I play music to get away from the office, and the last thing I'd ever want to associate playing music with is a f*#king office. 😡 There. Said it. 😬😜 I need to go and lie down in a darkened room for a couple of hours now... 😁🤣
