  2. If you glue it yourself, get a little rubber suction cup (like those ones to stick a stuffed Garfield to your car window) and go "schluck schluck schluck" up and down the glue line - this helps to suck the glue deeper in. Get plenty of glue in there, wipe off any excess then wrap an old bike inner tube around the neck as tight as you can get it to act as a clamp (use a zip-tie or a big spring clamp to hold the loose end).
  3. I read it as inferring that an important element of it’s DB-like tone is the high action, that if you lower the action it will sound increasingly like a fretless electric bass, albeit a very large and slightly unergonomic one. I had one for a year or so, yes it can do DB, but as is so often said, if you want a true DB sound, it’s so much easier to do it on a DB. The Takamine is beautifully designed and beautifully engineered but as an instrument it is neither one thing or the other. If I had the funds spare I still wouldn’t buy another
  4. Which venue were you doing? We played The Berliner this year. We also brought our own passive DIs.
  5. It does, I agree. My thinking was that the DB and TB both need thick double bass strings and high tension in order to I get the sound they do. By getting a tech to make it more playable for me - I have a fairly light touch - it would change the nature of the instrument for the worse. I decided the basses were perfect as they were, and the problem was me. I looked elsewhere, and bought the Godin A5 Ultra. We shall see how I get with that when it arrives Wednesday next week.
  6. That's so odd, almost looks as if the router template got broken and they bodged it with some filler.
  7. I like these too. That's sent me off down a rabbit hole for a bit.
  8. Hi all, A recent hip replacement has gifted me something special: clarity and a frightening amount of spare time to play with my gear and even more hours to realise I don't need most of it. So, here’s your chance to snag a pedal that’s in excellent condition: gently neglected, thoroughly appreciated, and now ready for a new home! Here is the link to the Blackhole on the Eventide Website. Go ahead, fall down the rabbit hole of overly poetic knob explanations. (‘reverb pedal as big and mysterious as the cosmos.’ What does that mean?)” Alternatively, here's the sales pitch bit Eventide Blackhole – Deep Space Reverb for Bassists Take your bass tone into uncharted territory with the Eventide Blackhole. This pedal delivers massive, ambient reverb from Eventide’s legendary algorithm—perfect for adding atmosphere without muddying your low end. Tailored Control: Dial in your sound with hands-on knobs or go deeper via MIDI and software. Flexible Setup: Works in mono or stereo, with input options for bass guitar or line-level rigs. Studio-Grade Sound: From subtle space to infinite decay, Blackhole keeps your low frequencies tight and clear. Ideal for ambient, experimental, or cinematic bass tones—Blackhole lets your sound breathe and expand. Specification Five presets loaded at your feet with dozens more available with Eventide Device Manager (EDM) software Rear panel Guitar/Line Level switch for selecting use with guitar, synths, FX loop or DAW interface Map any combination of parameters to an Expression Pedal. Use a single Aux switch to Tap Tempo or a triple Aux switch for easy preset changing (up/down/load). MIDI capability over TRS (use with a MIDI to TRS cable or converter box) or USB Multiple Bypass options: Buffered, Relay, DSP+FX or Kill dry Eventide Device Manager PC or Mac application for software updates, system settings and creating/saving presets Fine-tune your tone with Lo, Hi and Q (resonance) controls. Use the tone controls to add airiness or clear up the low-end. Map the EQ controls to an expression pedal to add movement to the reverb tail. Box includes pedal, quick reference guide and universal power supply Recorded delivery within the UK is included in the price. If you’d prefer an alternative postage option, feel free to get in touch to discuss. EU shipping, however, involves a soul-crushing bureaucracy designed by someone who clearly hates bass players. So… no shipping to the EU I'm afraid. I'm happy to answer any questions, though be warned - I’ve spent more time looking at these pedals than actually using them; they’ve basically lived a sparse life under soft lighting. I'm not looking for any trades at the moment. Regards, Neil.
  9. Probably best not then, just remember them then - I haven't been since 87, which is why I didn't go to the last tour.
  10. I might be wrong but I thought Will at Bassbris had previously worked for bass direct. It’s a convenient mid-point in the country, I’ve stopped by on the way to elsewhere before.
  11. Yesterday I got the neck pocket cut and made a pickup router template. Started off hogging out with a 35mm forstner then attacked it with a chisel, because thanks to stupid Amazon my new router bits haven't arrived yet. But then I looked in the box for my new router and found a 6mm straight cut bit - perfect! Pics to follow when I can find an alternative to imgur, but there's nothing to really see yet. I also put the tuners on the headstock - well, four of them. One of them didn't have a retaining nut and washer, but Thomann were really quick to reply to my query and are sending out a new one FOC, and they're letting me keep the wrong'un just in case. Took me a few minutes of minor freaking-out to realise that the nut threads of the left- and right-sided tuners are different - is that normal or just Sadowsky? Or maybe they were just a different batch...?
  12. I'm not sure having a whole rail live would be good for two reasons: i. safety, ii. picking up interference. (Those Seymour Duncan surrounds are interesting to know about.)
  13. That's a really good idea. Thanks
  14. Does anyone know why two of the biggest and best bass-only shops are both in Warwickshire, and one of the biggest and best bass-only brands around is called Warwick? Does Warwick Davis play bass too?
  15. That's probably who should be organising my life TBH.
  16. Welcome to BassChat This is the link to Eminence's own designs for your Kappalite, basically they offer three different designs small medium and large. Congratulations your Kappalite's are great drivers for bass. As used in the original Barefaced Compact cabs. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0270/8665/1462/files/Kappalite_3015_cab.pdf I'm a little surprised by your cab farting out. I'm not sure if you are hearing wind noise from the ports or over excursion of the speaker. I've done no calculations as yet but your cab is not far off the large cab in Eminence's own design, so this is unexpected. I also don't know what amp you are using or what your tone settings are but at full power the excusion shouldn't be excessive down to 40Hz which is basically bottom E, You'll notice in the Eminence spec they specify a 35Hz filter to protect the speaker. It might be the solution to use an HPF like the Thumpinator to remove the harmful but almost inaudible subsonics from reaching your cab. That will cure wind noise and over excursion. I also note that Eminence themselves only use 300W through the large cab not 450W. Incidentally in their 5cu ft cab they use two 3.5" ports 4"dia so you may be tuning too low.
  17. Carlos bought my Fender P. Went very smoothly, good communication, prompt payment. Thank you, Carlos!
  19. ***PRICE DROP NOW £1300*** 2010 US Stingray, 2EQ, CAR with rosewood board. One of the limited edition 133 basses, full fat ‘ray but with a soft gig bag case instead of a hard shell job. This is in excellent condition with one very minor ding on the top edge, and the pickguard is quite marked but obviously easily replaceable. Comes with a Hipshot D-tuner (long key though instead of short… doh), if you want the original tuner key I’ll chuck it in. I’ve also replaced the pickup with a Nordstrand MM4.2, which sounds flippin’ great. She’s quite heavy (10lb) but with a decent wide strap it feels ok. ***EDIT*** now comes with the option of a Warwick Rockbass semi-rigid case - photos added. Loathe to post this but can at buyer’s (insured) expense, or can meet in person at either Portsmouth, Southsea, Southampton or Lymington (I’m on the I.O.W.)
