Nice, good to see that it works, I was considering doing the same with mine, but was worried how much it'd stick out from my ear, didn't want to look like a pillock. Assume all good?

Yeah, fortunately neither are peeling yet, and I think given the lack of any kind of heating, cooling or humidity control in the gear store where their trunk is parked, if it was going to happen I'd have maybe seen the signs by now.

Basvarken started following A faithful replica of the Gibson lo-z bass humbucker

I checked with moderator Ped if posting this is okay. Thank you Chris for the green light. The Best sounding bass pickup of all time is the Gibson low impedance stacked humbucker that was used in the Les Paul Bass between 1968 and 1979. At least in my opinion. 😉 I really think they're amazing. Extremely silent. Magnificent dynamic response. Tight low end. Chrystal clear top end. And very versatile. For years I roamed Ebay and Reverb to score them to put in various bass guitars. But last few years they've become as rare as hen's teeth. And when you finally do find one the prices are astronomically high. Many times I tried to find a pickup maker who can replicate it. And many of them said they could. But in the end they all had to admit they couldn't. Until recently! I joined forces with Mike Rose from Gemini Pickups in Wales. I sacrificed an original and carefully dissected it. The pickup revealed its very unusual architecture. And step by step we reverse engineered it. The Brooks Gemini was born! I installed the Brooks Gemini into my Epiphone Jack Casady Signature bass. The bass previously sported an original Gibson lo-z humbucker. Here's the video demo of the Brooks Gemini bass pickup: a faithful replica of the low-impedance stacked humbucker that Gibson used in their Les Paul Bass between 1968 - 1979. Bass played by Dutch rock royalty Ivo Severijns. Straight into the desk. No compressor, No amp, No speaker, No speaker simulator. Just an honest registration of the sound of the pickup. What you see is what you get! Enjoy!

I have a Candian built Super PJ. It's fvcking phenominal! Plays like a dream, feels amazing and sounds brilliant. My only slight niggle with it is the P bass pick up is just a little too polite! But I do like dirty sounding P basses. I've thpught about selling it a few times as I don't play it as much as I used to, but everytime i pick it up i change my mind! This is my actual bass being reviewed, I've porbaly posted this on here before!

I have experience of the Boss SP404sx , SP404 mk2 and an older kaossilator . These are really for home use into a computer imho , or clubbing DJ’s FWIW, I started off on the Boss SP202 which I still have . Love it for its direct simplicity . I then purchased SP404sx which is still easy to use and has lots of great effects , plus loads of sample time . Still looking for original 1 gb boss sound card . I then purchased the SP 404 mk 2 ..and haven’t used it ! Only to update it last April ! It’s too much for me , but is fantastic if you have patience and enjoy menu diving ! Boss give free software updates on the 4/4 annually. I should really give it ago as it has usbc , works with iPad and pairs with the iPad koala app ! As for the older kaossilator , I won it in a bid on eBay ! No power , and seller soon had it returned ! It looked cheaper , and felt cheap and nasty and left me disappointed . Well it would have done , but luckily I dodged a bullet and got refunded in full . Cheap plastic rubbish

In my first band, Thd bassist was a complete novice but had a Rick. 4001 in black and white, it played superbly and I only got my dislike of ricks because of the twin truss rods snd aggressive trademark protection. Still my first experience was good.

What are your irrational prejudices? I have some bonkers ones...

One of my p basses is JV in black with white guard and it does look a bit Argos tbf -
I always fancied one of the 360 12 strings for some reason. A triumph of hope over experience. My experience with 12 strings being you spend the whole time tuning the things and very little actually playing them!
-
IIRC it was a combination of both in the end!

I've only ever played one Rick, and it was... ok. Wasn't awful, but didn't blow my hair back either. Looked nice. But it never sparked a desire in me to ever own one.

They aren't all bad. There is one particular Rickenbacker that I know of which is a truly fabulous instrument, sounds great and is an absolute joy to play. However the owner has made it clear that she will never part with it, despite growing arthritis in both hands, due to its sentimental value.
-
In truth, not as bad as I feared. For a first attempt we deliberately used far more glue than we probably needed, because my main concern was having the whole kludge fall apart the first time I took it out of my ears. Next time, we'll be a lot neater.

I wish you good fortune on your downsizing quest.

Only if they then burn it (or beat a guitarist to death with it, and then burn it) so no one else is ever afflicted with the agricultural object
-
...although if anyone gets rid of a Rickenbacker surely we should be encouraging them for having done something virtuous and thus give them some leeway 😀?
-
Well, I’ll join under the existing rules then. My ambition is to get down to 5 basses, which requires selling off 3. I sold a couple last year, so I feel I am on a roll. Also sold a BF cab and an amp. Loads more stuff to go to get down to what I actually use. 🥴
