  2. HI, I compose and record at home. I've played in my own 16 piece contemporary big band, theatre pit orchestras, A soul band and about to start playing in my own octet. I've experimented with assorted pedals but never really used them live. My pedal board at the moment that I'd like to start using comprises of a Boss Tuner, Dark glass Vintage Delux preamp, Darkglass Micro Tubes B7K Ultra, Darkglass Duality Fuzz, Boss CEB-3 Chorus and MXR Bass Octave deluxe (see attached photo). My Amp is a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 and my cabs are Bergantino 12 inch driver with horn (x2)IMG_2485.HEIC Hope that helps.
  3. Not round here it didn't. Buy it and move to Suffolk.
  4. Nice! Their website says they are getting more in a couple of weeks, and have registered for the email alert now
  5. Guys - how much power does a typical band PA set up plus a few lights use in terms of watt hours over a 2 hour gig? Thinking of getting one of those portable batteries e.g. Jackery UK for outdoor use. Their Explore 1000 v2 is currently on half-price sale and rated at 1000 watt-hours
  6. And those controls are: Volume, tone and What exactly?
  7. Also interested in the Warwick if you decide to split the sale
  8. So all of us basically 🤭
  9. Not all bassists use compressors. As with many other things, there are solutions to one's problems; it's only useful if you have a problem that it can resolve. Do you play at home, in studios, 'live' at gigs in pubs or theatres..? What amp set-up and other Fx (if any...) do you use..? Answers to these will help, maybe, get an idea of how to advise. Hope this helps.

I was lucky to be sitting in front of my computer when I got the email notification and jumped on it.
  11. I hear you.
  12. They’ve gone already
  13. Been playing bass since 2008 so not sure if I'm qualified to be called a musician yet 😅
  14. My gig this coming weekend will probably be a total of 8 hours and it’s only 30mins or so away. However, my longest ever from leaving home to getting home was around 46 hours! We were a southeast based band and did a wedding gig in Quimper, Brittany. It was an absolute blast.
  15. I got it at GAK March 2024 as an early birthday present - I sorted it out through one of the staff there Ryan who I had a few email conversations with about it. My local luthier set it up for me with the new strings and the old ones are included. I assume it was made in late 23 or very early 24 as it’s a newer model and relatively recent addition to the Hofner range. I’ve enclosed pictures of the booklet which has the matching serial number to the inside label - you can even see the name of the craftsman handwritten on the label. Hofner really know how to make something special. I’m sure Hofner would be able to find the exact date for you if needed. If you want pictures of the inside label and serial number and are seriously interested please PM me.
  16. As per title used briefly on a shortscale Stingray. Cut for 3+1 or 2+2 basses. Lightly used. Price includes UK postage. PayPal please.
  17. It isn’t but it’s a similar set up.
  18. QSC CP12 Active PA Speaker 1000 Watts One of two - priced individually or for a small discount if sold as a pair. This speaker is as new and has not been used since purchase. It comes with additional QSC waterproof cover for outdoor use. Very powerful speakers however I’m downsizing and selling my larger portable PA gear. Street price is £579 cheapest I can find so this is a good saving. The covers cost an extra £67. The user manual is included. I have two of these for sale. I can knock off £40 if you buy the pair. Pickup definitely preferred but talk to me if this is impossible. UK only. Postage would be at buyer’s cost and I’d need to source packaging as the boxes have been recycled. These speakers get glowing reviews in Sound on Sound magazine - https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/qsc-cp-series I own a pair of QSC CP8s which are perfectly fine for keyboard monitoring and rehearsal PA so these aren’t needed now for personal use. Specifications from QSC below - Features Class-D amplifier with 1000W peak power output Selectable contours (presets) for quick setup Advanced DSP with Intrinsic Correction™ Superior sound quality and speaker protection Directivity Matched Transition™ (DMT) ensures uniform coverage across the entire sound field Suitable for use as a main PA, stage monitor or instrument amplifier 35mm pole mount socket Lightweight and incredibly portable Specifications Configuration: Two-Way Active Low Frequency Driver: 12'' Cone Woofer High Frequency Driver: 1.4'' Compression Frequency Response: 49Hz - 20kHz, -6dB 47Hz - 20kHz, -10dB Sound Pressure Level: 126dB (Maximum) Nominal Coverage: 75° Axisymetric Amplifier Type: Class-D Amplifier Power: 1000W (Peak) Input Connectors: 2 x XLR/TRS Combo (Line and Mic/Line) 1 x 3.5mm TRS Stereo Output Connector: 1 x XLR (Mix) Controls: Power 2 x Gain Mic Boost Push Switch 6-Way Contour Selection Switch Indicators: Power LED 2 x Input Signal LEDs Input B MIC Selected LED Limiter Active LED Power Supply: 100V - 240V, 50Hz/60Hz Enclosure Material: Polypropylene Grille: 18 Gauge Powder Coated Steel Dimensions: 516mm x 350mm x 323mm / 20.3'' x 13.8'' x 12.7'' (H x W x D) Weight: 13.7kg / 30.3lbs

  19. Not quite but it does make some weird, wonderful and musical noises!
  20. I didn't realise all bassists use compressors. I've known quite a few professional players who kind of frown on their use saying it limits their dynamic range and musicality. Also that an excellent technique means that a compressor can become redundant. I suppose though that if one owns a compressor one could use it discreetly depending on the style of music being played. In answer to your question, " how ling have you been playing bass?" the answer must be 'Not long enough to know everything" I guess the reason these forums can be useful is that its possible to get helpful answers from musicians who have some knowledge on a particular subject. How long have you been a musician? 🤪
  21. Price drop £1000 no trades, thanks
  22. Yeah, I don’t dislike IMA, I do feel like his enthusiasm is genuine and he does bring good stuff to the table. I just find that when he’s paired with another enthusiastic American it tips it over the edge for me. 😅
  23. I'm looking to get a reasonable approximation to the Stingray sound from a Ray5. I'm installing a Musikding classic bass preamp which is the 2EQ Musicman circuit (same as the Retrovibe Stinger). Being curious, I checked out the resistance of the Ray5 pickup, and it's 7k or so. This made me wonder if there was a pickup which would match the circuit a bit better and also not cost more than the bass. It so happens that I picked up a Squier Vintage Modified Modified Jazz with a Warman MM pickup in the bridge position which had Ray5 pole spacing, which I replaced with an Aguilar with better spacing for the poles, so I have a Warman MM pickup with the right spacing and two 7k coils which I could switch as series/parallel/single. So should I keep the original pickup or replace it with a switched Warman pickup? Alternatives involving spending more than £25 will not be countenanced.
  24. Not me I'm afraid, mine is a late 70s P bass. It's a bit of a drive for me (although not as far as you), but for major jobs I do always like to go to Jon.
  25. Trying to wean myself off preamps for use at doubling gigs, so I'm listing a couple today. First up is this one: https://gearspace.com/gear/ebs/microbass-ii?via=gear_post_link https://www.gear4music.com/G4M/EBS-MicroBass-II-Bass-Preamp-Pedal/65B6 It's a classic Swiss Army Knife of a pedal which does pretty much everything you're likely to need at a gig. The tone-sculpting allows either seamless switching between DB and electric or two different tones from a single bass, it has no problems handling piezo pickups, it's a great DI box, etc. etc. etc. I've always run this off phantom power from the mixer so I'm including a new, boxed power supply. This has done a lot of gigs with https://www.lemonrock.com/damoandthedynamites so I won't claim perfect nick, but it's a solid 9/10. Everything works exactly as it should. Four little patches of removable velcro on the bottom.
