2007 USA MusicMan Sterling in black/maple Reluctant sale of this lovely USA made bass, If you don’t know this is the jazz bass to the Stingray with a lovely narrow neck of 38.1mm at the nut and different pickups/electronics 3 way pickup selector which makes subtle but all usable changes in tone. The neck is unfinished oiled maple and oh so smooth to the hand with a sculpted heel to get to those high notes. Perfect combo of black body and pick guard and maple neck/head IMHO. Condition wise it’s very good, see the photos. The neck is amazing with maybe one slight mark which I couldn’t photograph and only saw when I was inspecting it for sale. I have polished the body to make it look its best, there’s a couple of very fine scratches on the back and some evidence of small paint touch ups on the edges but overall very good for an 18yo bass which was used a fair bit before I got it from the original owner. - as it’s black it tends to show marks easily but I reckon you’d be very pleased with it - it is 18 years old. All the hardware is great and untarnished and all works as it should as I checked everything when I bought it. Frets have been polished and it stays in tune beautifully. It has always been stored in its original MM hard case in my possession, the case has marks and scratches as pictured but it’s done its job and it a great case with its original key. (Case is very expensive to replace as it’s designed for the Sterling). Has a medium action which I can change for you if you buy it. Comes with the EB cloth, spare white tort pick guard (which isn’t a MM item but it’s very good) and black Schaller strap locks (I will include the strap bits of this as well and a strap if you want one). I have the original strap buttons which I will include and I can put back on if you want before sale. I won’t post this at all but I am prepared to travel a long way from Huddersfield to deliver it or meet halfway. I’ve been to London before to pick an eBay purchase up I don’t mind! It has the advantage of peace of mind that it’s got to you ok and I know you’ll be happy with it. Obviously cash or immediate bank transfer only. Open to offers but no swaps sorry. My first big sale on here but I’ve huge feedback on eBay as a seller and on Retrobike website which I can share if you want the info. Any questions let me know!

Other than the stand I bought for my EUB (tier 2 at worst), I’m still in. There have been a few things that have tickled my fancy, but either the GAS wire off, or someone beat me to it (a certain, red, Rickalike springs to mind here). Really not that bothered by anything at the moment, I’m even thinking of offloading some basses, as they’re just sitting there, doing nothing.

I knew a bassplayer in the 80s who could play the entire back catalogue of Iron Maiden songs. It was very impressive when you first heard him. It got boring very quickly, he was unable to play anything else, nor could he jam with a band, and didn't know any of the fretboard. About the same time I knew a guitarist who had quite an extensive repertoire of Beatles tunes. But again, that was his limit. But that was what made them happy. -

Sadowsky, musicman, Dingwall, lakland, Warwick, fender etc all produce high quality 5 string instruments. I’d never, ever consider buying one without having it in my hands first, as I’ve had some that were miles better and worse than others. In an ideal world, I’d settle on a specific model than I’d want to try about five of the same model to pick the best one and avoid an expensive lemon. If only there was enough stock around in a single dealer to do this.

Dons started following Mothership Pigtronix MK1 #0846. (Rare UK find ?)
-
Another pedal I’ve bought directly from David Koltai a little while back. Mothership Pigtronix MK1 , I’ve used it for a project but wasnt actually turned on all that much, infact there is marking on the pedal for that one song.. none the less, what goes on the board - stays on the board until theres no point carrying it.. RIght ? (no need to answer that ,, 🙈) and I find this pedal a little hard to let go I have to admit, but the cathartic process is good, so I plough through,, ! This beast is one of the very few that actually delivering on the synth side of things with a sound of its own ! When I mean synth , I mean an actual analogue sinewave(s) which you can blend along with your bass and further stomp boxes ! ! David has clearly thought this pedal through and through with all these features, including: - Sub out, - VCO, - Glides, - Whammy range, - Ring modulator, - Sinewaves shapes on off, - Sub octave (even on my 5er Lowest ! (I love this one when blend is off btw ! ) And so much more but mostly THE BLEND ! ! so your bass stays on the channel if you want to and you can tune the synth right up to it or harm it even ! - or completely kill it and just stay with a synth. I’ve yet to come across anything that can do half as much with a sound of its own ! If anything, I think David has created one of those outstanding pedals that further versions aren't really going to match the original. Its an early version as well. unit number 846. which I reckon will become collectors paradise soon enough. It wants your clean/preamp signal first. Or post comp. And if your active basses and battery are too low it would tell you go elsewhere for tracking. I've used it with passive pbass and Jbass and working beautifully ! Comes with a box and manual and a US type lead which i’d say is probably my only criticism of this unit, they could have come up with a better lead, but thats that I guess, it works and you can find replacements. I took it for a service to be done by Koltai team as well in 2022. I really dont know how to price this,, None available in the UK and from my research so far, combining ebay and reverb etc, items only available internationally. So £265 seems like a reasonable BC deal for this unit, inc box and manual etc. My initial reaction was £290 but ive deducted points on the power lead, its working perfectly fine , but still I can imagine you might want to replace this at some point and they cost about £12ish or so. Price: £265. seems fair considering whats out there, the overall condition and box.(saw a japanese dude selling it for £650.) Condition: Very Good. Includes: Original box, manual original power supply. Collection: Brighton or London. or can post within the UK (tracked and insured, at your expense.(will be heading upnorth 23/24/25/ August so can meet along M1/M6. Meet along the way or outside Manchester or nearby cities.) Feel free to ask any questions, Thanks,

There is among some on BC a tendency to think of anything that's not root'n'fifth (or at most, on the mellow side of McCartney) to be showing off and not proper bass playing. So most of jazz, anything with slap'n'tap or excess widdle gets dismissed as "unmusical showboating" - which completely ignores the fact that you have to have a hint of show-offery just to get on stage and play any music, never mind the classical concept of the cadenza or solos in jazz or even (God forbid!) in rock! BTW, not saying that's you - I agree with what you're saying...

With that sort of budget the world is your oyster so get down to some bass specific shops and try a few, if you're lucky you might come across a used MTD 535 via private sale although they rarely sneak below £3k. As mentioned strings are important, hard to gauge (see what I did there?) how good the bass is with a poor string choice.

I'm not sure I'm thinking of it dismissively when I call something showboating - a lot of interesting and very accomplished musicians will bring out an element of showboating when it helps get things across to their audience. I mean that little "hey, get this" presentation of something obviously tricky. I think it *can* be done in a good natured way that doesn't take away subtler properties of the music, but to pull that off you have to have self-confidence and the ability to back it up, as well as making sure it's not the whole of what you have to offer.
-
In my mind at least, there's a difference between levelling and polishing.
-
Unfortunately, it's not available at the moment because it would be necessary to do some research first to figure out whether a standard PEEK fingerboard would resist the string tension sufficiently. And, if not, what thickness would. I'm talking to my fabricator about getting the phenowood fingerboard on my Vigier 5, which is truss rodless and pre-curved, replaced with PEEK. Perhaps after this point I will be in a better position to know whether PEEK will be stiff enough for truss rodless necks.

I've done a thing! - Product page link: https://www.emgpickups.com/bass/whats-new-bass.html I would be most grateful if you'd kindly watch my lil 1 minute video, like, share, add a nice positive comment and sub to my little channel - that gets lost in all of the "pick me influencer" videos that make up 14 pages of rants on Basschat 🤣😂🤣. @DanVeallBassist Presents: EMG Pickups' new E-Series Pickups feature the commonly used slim soapbar cap design. Unlike any other EMG design, the E-Series feature wide aperture coils with ceramic magnets, utilising an oversized stacked single coil design. The coils go all the way out to the edge of the cap. The E series delivers powerful low end while retaining the articulation modern bass player requires. The E Series pickups unlock a multitude of bass models for simple, drop-in EMG upgrades. Designed with versatility in mind, the E-Series can excel in a wide range of genres and playing styles. Just like all EMG active pickups, the E Series are free from hum and buzz, and include solderless wiring kits for simple, DIY installation. For further tonal shaping, the E Series pickups are compatible with EMG’s wide range of bass EQ’s and accessories, so the tonal possibilities are virtually endless.
