Well, 2 weeks to the day since I returned the One10, a replacement was delivered this morning, and all is well with the world once more. Alex promised to turn it around quickly and he has, just in time for me to use the pair on gigs tonight and tomorrow. The initial mix up was unfortunate, but it's all been sorted out at no cost to me. Rob

I have one from 2011... well, technically I had (the bass has been modified a lot). I got mine because someone near me was selling it for very little money and at the time I did not have a Precision, so it seemed like a good idea. I loved it! Mine was also very light. Black pickguard and standard knobs. The original pickup was fine, but over the years I tried a couple others and settled with a Seymour Duncan SPB-1. Eventually I replaced the neck as well. The original neck was quite slim and nice, but I prefer maple fingerboards and a bit chunkier necks, so I found a neck from a Squier CV50s and replaced it. I experimented a bit with pickguards of different colours (single ply white and 3-ply mint white). One nice thing is that the pickup route is neat, so it looks pretty good without any pickguard at all. Here's a few pictures of what started as a Squier Mike Dirnt...

Thank you for highlighting the personal angle which informed your argument, I appreciate that and understand a bit better why you took it down that road now. But this whole "everyone can be a musician" thing by typing a few words into an "AI magic music generator" can still get in the effing bin, and no amount of arguments, however framed, are going to dissuade me of that. It's delusional!

For me a P bass is totally wrong without a pickguard. But when I put it on after the refinish it did upset me to cover up so much of the orange sparkle.

The Retro Wind P pickup sounded amazing to my ears in the room and also the pair of Retro Wind J were as good a pair of J pickups that I've ever heard. If I end with a JJ configuration passive bass again, I'll need putting these in.

I would like to boost the signal from Bass Guitar ,so that I can plug it in to the input of My Moog Grandmother or Moog Minitaur. Apparently I need something to boost the bass guitar signal so that it can actually be heard in the mix ! Apparently sonuus might be the solution! It is said a preamp would be sufficient to boost the signal from my bass guitar ! I do have a Zoom B3 , but not sure if that is a powerful enough signal boost ! Fwiw I do know how to control the synths in question to accept the signal from my bass guitar.. This is done by turning the oscillators all the way down ,and messing around with the rest of the knobs etc . With the moog Grandmother I also have to have it on the Drone setting for it to work . As for the Minitaur,a key from the midi keyboard has to be permanently pushed down/ engaged . A lot of faffing around .. I do have cheap mini distortion and overdrive pedals but doubt they’d be powerful enough to boost signal . The problem is the bass signal is too low in the inputs of the synths ! Please could someone recommend something to do the job . Thanks in advance 🙂

Gotcha. But it's being used as a tool to bring healing (medicine) - I'm surrounded by medics in my immediate and wider family(!) and in our cases joy (music) into folks' lives. In the case of cancer diagnosis and new medicines, generative ai is being used as part of the software. I also personally know software engineers and language translators whose jobs are being impacted by generative ai. We're not alone in this.

I suspect the effort that it may take to get AI to write a hit single might be similar to the effort of a person writing it from scratch... But for remastering/recording/adding instrumentation I think it is a tool that is here to stay, and sadly will take people's jobs.

Frankly, I was a little disappointed by that and it made me sad - I think you took that too far.
