The neck on the MV series HB range have a nice profile. More D than C so feels more substantial in the hand than a Flea sig (I have both). I put some Fender PV ‘74 pick up’s in my HB and a new loom and it sounds fantastic. (As an aside I’ve never used a 70’s wind jazz set before and they really do add some muscle and add in a more forward midrange. Very impressed by them!) but I think Gregor favours the 60’s wind. Kloppman pick up sets, especially the one Gregor likes, are about £300 per set so this will likely be a great sounding bass but as a one off series it’s probably gonna be spendy for the brand but with good quality hardware. The neck looks like a nice piece of wood and hopefully they’re monitoring the weight to keep them under 4kg.

I use one subtely, it is a good bass drive pedal, from mild growl to full on distortion, not my thing, works great with Class D bass amps to give them a tubey tone, got mine for £60 on Gear4Music's web-site but they were hurt as it's price was now £120 but i had already bought it...lol

I ended up buying an extra DI box, the AEA TDI DI mono box, 50ohm XLR output, 48v phantom power, very low noise floor, sounds fantastic, hi-end DI with -20db pad, sheilded Lehle (German) transformer, fantastic for bass as well as most instruments, some guy & his band recorded a cover version of "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" using just the AEA TDI, very impressed, neautral, transparent with a tight low bottom end with no audable noise, sells for £299 but got mine for £192, well pleased.....

I agree. However this pic shows how hard it is to give that 110%. Lol Daryl

We're not a wedding band by any stretch of the imagination. But we've been wangled into doing a few. All of them were bad. It's usually when the bride or the groom just happens to like our band. I don't think it occurs to them to hire a band their guests would like. Daryl

Lots of great info already given. All I would add is that its worth considering a Blue Acoustic system. Hand made here in the UK using top quality components. Designed to out perform similarly priced big brand gear and you can speak to them directly to discuss which of their setups would suit you best.

That's from a while ago - that settee's long gone. The basses are all still here though. The observant may notice the fingerboard end on the fretless isn't standard, I got Jon Shuker to replace the original board which had been nicely defretted but of course had lines on for an unlined ebony board and he shaped it that way.

I have quite a few. However, when I don't know how big the venue is or I know it's small, I'll take a fretted headless, if I've got room then I may take a headed bass instead and that will be a choice from a selection of three or four. For open mic nights I'll take any one of a dozen, generally 5-strings but occasionally a 4 or a 6.
