Messy or not, what's on your (music) work desk right now?

My desk is its normal state of messy, although it also has a pigeon on it at the moment, but I don't have a camera! -

Ah thanks so much for coming in. were all so glad you came away with this lovely bass. it really means a lot when customers come to the shop and try things out. and even more when they come away with something so nice. all the best! Bass Direct

You can't know if music is A.I. A.I. has no idea whatsoever as to the underlying forces in musical composition, and its music is just as bad as music made by most humans. 😁

There was a gremlin in my last post . 🤦♂️ Anyway , I started to go through the mess a few days ago. Then midweek , the heatwave made things unbearable 🥵 It all started with a fight with very large tv and soundbar boxes which I purchased a few months ago . Yesterday, I purchased a Mac mini which is connected to the tv in the front room.. Hopefully I can purchase a MacBook on black Friday/ Christmas time . This means I can do away with the 2017 iMac , and have 2 places to record my GarageBand efforts when I’m inspired/ not too lazy ..

I've only ever picked up Sandbergs to have a quick noodle and it's hard to describe but you can just feel the quality. Great basses, glad you've got a way to work around the back issues too, Loz, hope this keeps you doing what you love.

If I'm playing 'clean' then I like a compressor early in the chain and quite subtle so it doesn't kill all playing dynamics but evens things out a bit before it goes through the preamp/Amp (and some compressors add a bit of a specific tone). If I'm doing slap/pop then I have it set up a bit more like a limiter (high threshold, high ratio). If I use things like an envelope filter then I like the compressor to be after it and a bit more like a limiter - so the subtle dynamics of playing get through to trigger the filter (or not), but then any really loud envelope filter peak noises get reduced. I feel that multi-fx are good for compression as you can take these things into account for different presets, or easily use more than one compressor/limiter in a signal chain.

Updated @Lozz196's status. Also removed @Oliver bowen, who was never part of the thread in the first place but got added to the P31 update in error. He would be wondering why he has a second mention in a topic he has no interest in if he had actually visited the forum since he joined in 2024. Maybe we should start a "BC Abstinence Thread" for such people?

I bought Ben’s compressor. Great pedal as advertised and really easy to deal with. Do not hesitate to, he’s a top bloke! Thanks, Jim

Well, I've kept it for 30 years so far just because I like it! But realistically I am not going to play it - I'm primarily piano/keys and I didn't like that trying to play it toughened up my finger pads. So bar me having about 3 or 4 short sessions with it, it's never been played except by the previous owner, but by the looks of things they played it about the same amount that I did. So cosmetic dings yes and I put all of those in the original photos, but doesn't look to have play wear really. I could only find one previously sold and it was a different colour, if you do come across any examples I would love to see them. That info is all really interesting, thank you! And this is clearly where I screwed up initially, I had known Squier was a budget brand so assumed there was not much second hand value in the one I had. Just had a measure and it is the 32" version. I'm not in a rush to do anything with it now I know this, so will just see what else I can find out and have a think. And I do play the keys less nowadays so maybe it is time for another go! Really appreciate the advice, thanks again!

He said on IG in the comments of the post announcing this that he’s aiming for a price point of about $400usd - I don’t think that’s really too bad for what it is and when you look at the price of a Finally v3 & Single slice comp new

Messy or not, what's on your (music) work desk right now?

Here's mine as I left it last night before hitting the sack. I do try to keep the desktop clear but small objects gradually accumulate, either because I haven't found a home for them yet or because I haven't got round to restoring them to said home. On this occasion I stayed up re-doing the cabling on the smaller (direct-to-PA) board, which involved swapping a cable from the larger board. They are both for skinny-string guitar btw. -
