  2. tonehammer 500, £420 posted to uk working no probs few scuffs on top but nothing serious . not looking for trades thanks .
  3. Chowny SWB-1. A twangy wee bass that felt longer yet tubbier than expected. It did look cool, but I didn't enjoy the economics or twang.
  4. Quoting myself here…..just looked at the Wiki album write up, and the album has about 3 bassists! Says Phil Manzanera played bass on this! Don’t know why Gary isn’t on the whole album. Don’t know what he’s doing now?
  5. Don't It Mackerel Brown Eyes Blue - Crystal Gayle
  6. Paul Thompson...?
  7. Gary looks pretty cool here too….love this ‘later’ track, always dug the driving bass.
  8. I will be trying to direct the owner to take on the majority of work towards getting his US made guitars home. I can facilitate by being home to pass the package on or to someone flying over there.
  9. If I haddock Hammer - Trini Lopez
  10. Posted this vid in the Roxy Music thread, but suspect he deserves his own spotlight having played in some important bands of the time - Adam & The Ants, Vibrators two name two. I think I learned more about playing bass from hearing and studying this bass line than I learned in the following 5-years. As I said in the other thread, it's tight, present, and insistent. Nothing special in itself, but it doesn't just suit the song, it drives it along powerfully. Glorious

  11. If I Cod Turn Back Time - Cher
  12. I love the fact that he gets so much video real estate in that clip, especially when you consider he was the 20-year old newbie in a pretty established band with some pretty serious musicians. Having said that, IIRC even given his youth he'd already done stints with Vibrators and Adam and the Ants, so some decent experience. But man, the first time I heard that bassline I was hooked for life, so tight, present, and insistent. Beautiful work 👍
  13. Come Fry With Me - Frank Sinatra
  14. Batter Man - Robbie Williams
  15. Why can a 50W guitar amp sound as loud as a 500 watt bass amp (into appropriate speakers)? 1. Hearing is much more sensitive at guitar frequencies than bass frequencies 2. Guitar speakers are generally significantly more sensitive at guitar frequencies, than bass speakers are at bass frequencies, often by a factor of 10dB 3. Guitar amps are often driven into distortion, which increases the effective compression and average power density. 4. Guitar speakers tend to beam more because of the frequencies (including harmonics) that they are reproducing, this increases the on-axis volume.
  16. I tracked down a Westone Pantera Deluxe X790 which was the only one I have ever seen for sale. Collected it from The Netherlands. Not to be confused with the much inferior X750 Another rare one that I have actually managed to buy twice is the Yamaha SB-35. Don't see those very often. I bought one, sold it, regretted it. Searched the internet every day for eight years. Saw one on eBay but it was loads too heavy. Saw a third one this year and bought it, below on the left, next to another one you don't see that often (although this is my third!), an Aria Pro II CSB 450 Black n Gold. Both medium scale.
  17. Interesting. I'm the opposite. I use La Bellas on my P and Chromes on my Jazz.
  18. Looks great 🤩 What are the pickups? Weight?
  19. I don't assume they use the same modules. I was having a dig about claimed output powers and mentioned them because they seem to be notable culprits. I appreciate that not all boards have integral power supplies. I've been toying with the idea of assembling (can't really call it building when all you do is put modules in a metal case and make a few connections) a power amp for my hi-fi using the Purifi Eigentakt modules people are singing the praises of, which don't have integral PSUs. Many appear to use Hypex PSUs with them.
  20. Beat on the Brat - Ramones
  21. Club Tropicana - Wham!
  22. The Zon Hyperbass is on my wanted list... I tried a brand new one around 30 years ago and I really liked it, but not its price tag...
  23. Today
  24. I tried one of these in GAK (RIP) a while back and thought it seemed like a regular sized bass. I could be remembering it wrong however.
